Same with my youngest daughter. It was literally 50/50 between Sheffield and Liverpool and we both liked Sheffield more, then on a second visit to both Unis Sheffield ballsed up spectacularly and Liverpool didn't. She's been in Liverpool ever since and finished Uni 2 years ago!
My view of Bayo is that he has a narrow band of abilities compared with a typical nbr 9 striker. Can't use him as a main target man, so he needs to continually try to break the line based on decent thru balls. He is totally reliant on quick balls and yesterday he got superb supply, so maybe TC has prompted this? On highlights there were 3 superb long passes which lead to goals, does anyone know who supplied them because they need a good pat on the back!!
Tom’s system doesn’t seem to rely on us having a prolific (or it feels like even a 25% prolific) number 9. When miracle days like yesterday happen, it seems fair enough. When awful away days like Luton, Preston, Norwich etc happen, the lack of a finisher up top seems much more relevant. Bayo is our player (well, sort of!) and therefore always had my support, BUT it’s hard work at times when we lose matches to 0 and (as at Preston) big chances are wasted. Yesterday he had his day, well done to him. His challenge, and indeed the whole team’s too, is to follow that up with another good performance after only three days rest and plenty of travelling. Not so much use scoring 6 one game and a blank the next. So Tuesday is a big test, as indeed is Friday, for having ended the recent away hoodoo we don’t want to then lose our home form straight after. We have been a home and away side so far this season, but at least we’ve won more points away (6) than we’ve dropped at home (2), which puts us in credit.
Yes I was thinking the same, he doesn't get the goals you would expect a normal No9 to get, hence when his has a chance we can never be sure exactly what's going to happen, I remember when Vydra got something like 5x braces at home on the trot, when he got through onto a ball you knew it was going to be in the back of the net, the same can't be said of Bayo! his goals are either spectacular like yesterdays No 3, or scruffy like the other two forgetting the Pen.
Dan took half a step to his left to cover the unmarked striker at his back post, Pollock was shielding his view of the one that actually struck it, My first view I thought it was soft, but on rewatching it, he was covering the greater danger and was unlucky to be caught flat footed.
Er…not really. They still had over a year more of Dean Smith and then a year of Gerrard before Emery was appointed in October 2022.
I'm not sure, but I seem to remember Iggy wasn't rated bymany supporters before that game. After that day Deeny and he became a great threat. It would be nice to see Bayo gain a confidence like that shown with the chip over the goalie yesterday and maybe become a major threat

We got the best out of Iggy, and that is nothing to be sniffed at. When he signed for Manure he was beyond awful. I loved watching his partnership with Deeney, one of my favourite performances of them was when we beat Middlesbrough 2-0 at the Vic in a lunchtime game. I think we were third and they were second. It was a massive victory and they were all over the pitch.
I said this to the Wednesday fan that you could make a film about this , the travails of some football fans thrown together in a desperate attempt to get home despite the rail networks best attempt to thwart them . Chuck in a bit of poetic licence , the bogs out of order etc, and you have a blockbuster on your hands!. Ryan Reynolds would play me. Obvs.
Yep . And chucking away a 2 goal lead to Everton then losing in the last minute to the 10 men . Control what you can control .
Great win. Fair play. I'd genuinely have thought it more likely that I win the lottery yesterday than Bayo bagging four.
Yes we did. I always felt that day gave him the confidence to go out at matches and attack, and the supporters had confidence in him which helped him. It would be nice if yesterdays four done something similar for Bayo
A few ideas for the film title: Extra Time: The Journey Home Stoppage Time A Pitch Too Far Penalty Fare
A win away Bayo getting 4 No nerves in the last 10 No early goal conceded In the playoffs things I never expected yesterday morning
He may yet do. Either two things are going to happen: 1. He bags at least 50% of his chances (which at this level is more than good enough if those chances are frequent). or 2. He reverts back to type and the moaning begins again. Personally, I think getting four goals in half an hour would do any striker the world of good confidence wise. Yes Sheff Wed were gash second half and the 'ball over the top' was the way to beat their high line, but Bayo has proven he can score a one and one, and can get his headers down and into the net. Something he struggled massively to do before hand.
Re: Bayo, yesterday proved if nothing else what a confidence player he is. All strikers are to some extent but some far more than others. In his case the penalty and having that feeling of the ball striking the net clearly settled him down. I doubt he scores his second had he not scored his first and he DEFINITELY doesn't score his third without those first two. I hope he can maintain his confidence for as long as he can... inevitably it will dry up at some point.
One of the most pleasing part of this season so far for me is that i can point to many of the players and say they are actually improving, not all, but quite a few. Its been a while since i have thought that! The general wisdom is we are overachiving at present, which is a fair arguement, but if the players keep improving, we keep getting results, maybe we won't be overachiving by being in the play off poisons.
