It was a foggy day with the local chimneys in full operation, the lineman’s flagged but didn’t realise the top half of his flag was broken, hence the ref thought he was just pointing to the sky in jubilation. This lead to stronger poles for linesman.
Onion Ighalo 24/01/15/home to Blackpool we were 2-0 down at H-T and scored 7 in the 2nd half to make it 7-2
My godson did a degree in Robotics there and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was offered a job at the uni myself but had to turn it down when Mrs K worked out Sheffield was not near Birmingham, as she had thought.
On another note, a massive curfuffle in the concourse between our own fans over a Nigel Farage sticker stuck on the wall. Punches thrown and lots of shouting.
TBH most of their fans accept both were penalties although some did claim handball in the lead up to the 2nd. Quite gracious it seems - or more in shock at how they fell apart second half.
Enjoy the moment everyone but I hope an exception to the rule doesn't cloud any recruitment judgement in January . It wasn't a 2-6 game IMO and Wednesday were probably the better side at 45 however they have a couple of clumsy oafs at centre back which helped our cause . Well done Bayo but we need you to score in 1-0 wins and not a glut in a rout. I had the journey from hell on the train coming home you will all be glad to hear ! We had to leave at 80" because my train was due to leave at 5:56 and I didn't realise how far the station was from Hillsborough which was my fault . I had a connecting train to catch from Tamworth to Milton Keynes at 6:34 or something like that . The train was delayed from Sheffield because the driver had forgotten his packed lunch or something then when it did eventually leave we were stranded for 10 minutes outside Chesterfield for reasons that are not entirely clear . Bottom line the train from Tamworth was missed . By 2 minutes . The next train had been cancelled and after that the 20:56 was the next train due . "Never mind" said the hi viz guy " you can catch the rattler, which is arriving shortly, and catch the Euston train from Nuneaton and with a fair wind you should be able to make it " And we did not make it , the rattler was delayed and proceeded to trundle along at such a pace that when it came in to halt the doors opened just as the Euston train was departing . By this time I had been joined by a Wednesday fan a Forest fan and a young lad trying to get to Romford ! So we asked Nuneatons hi viz guy what to do " get back on the train and get to Rugby because blah blah" So off we popped to Rugby where we had to wait for the 9:30 train which was the 8:56 from Tamworth so we may have well stayed where we were . Then 10 minutes before the train arrived hundreds upon hundreds of people turned up on the platform which turned out to be Crystal Palace fans returning from Wolves . The end result of this is that we were packed in like sardines, nose to armpit, for the remainder of the journey . British Rail ? Sell it off !
This would make a good book! I've had similar experiences with trains recently, more with EMR down the other route to St Pancras but every time i get a train recently itscbeen delayed or cancelled. Trains in this country are awful - unreliable, rammed and vastly more costly than driving. It's always a last resort for me.
You are right it wasn’t an 2-6 game if you left at 80 minutes it was only a 1-4 game , thank you for your detailed journey home hopefully it was sweetened somewhat by the fact we won 4-1, did your crystal radio pick up the fact the match had another 3 goals? What time did you get home and well done for sharing your day!
Interesting fact this century we have scored 6 goals 5 times but only conceded 6 goals 3 times:- Sat 02 Nov 2024 Sheffield Wednesday Away W 6-2 Porteous, Ince, Bayo 4 Sat 13 Feb 2021 Bristol City Home W 6-0 Hughes, Sema 2, Sarr 2, Zinckernagel Sat 10 Aug 2013 AFC Bournemouth Home W 6-1 Angella 2, McGugan, Deeney 3 Sat 10 Nov 2012 Leeds United Away W 6-1 Abdi, Yeates, Vydra, Murray, Deeney Sat 18 Sep 2010 Millwall Away W 6-1 Mutch, Sordell, Mariappa, Eustace, Graham, Sordell Sat 18 May 2019 Manchester City Cup Final L 0-6 Sat 16 Sep 2017 Manchester City Home L 0-6 Sun 06 Nov 2016 Liverpool Away L 1-6 Janmaat Thanks to watford.fcdb
Shame one of those 6-0s was viewed by millions across the world! Only one clean sheet - sloppy. Have we had 2 different penalty takers in one game before and scored 4 with different players. If only Tom Ince's dad had done that v Argentina all those years ago in the World Cup...
Don’t think we should really compare Baah and Chak, they are both doing great and they are performing very different roles for the team, but looking at Wednesday fans’ reactions on social media, it was Chak who was singled out
Went charging up the field again for their first goal, had to sprint back to no avail (mind you, neither Pollock nor Bachmann covered themselves in glory for that goal). Excellent pass for the second penalty though!
My son has just started a similar course there in robotics, seems a very good engineering department by all accounts.
Yes 26/12/13 Home to Millwall Won 4-0 Deeney (10) pen, Forestieri (26), Anya (48), McGugan (60) Pen However I'm not quite sure why the question was asked as we only had 3 scorers yesterday. The only previous time that happened was when we beat Grays United 10-1, 28th Feb 1906 with two different pen scorers, so is very rare
I was thinking about this the other day seeing villa briefly top of the champions league table and 5th or 6th in the league, how our fortunes changed since then. It was the pivotal non-goal sheffield united scored that goal-line technology failed on where it was literally the other side of the post, villa went on to get a draw in that game and that spear-headed their revival. We went down. They stayed up. Got Emery in shortly later and here we are.
In fairness Bournemouth have more reason to feel aggrieved at that particular incident, the moment we ****ed it vis a vis Villa was when we lost there in the last minute
Also their spawny goal to win in the last minute at their place. Ball deflected off a prone Mings who admitted after the game he should have been sent off early in the 2nd half. That 3-point swing was crucial.
Yeah that was interesting. Wondered if it was Moose and the gang. Took a picture of it, will upload later as I'm on my mobile.
