Interesting. It’s still early days but maybe this proves TCs point about goals not needing to come necessarily from the striker as they come from other positions with the striker contributing in other ways. Obviously it would have been nice for Bayo to have put away some of those missed chances particularly the sitter against PNE but it’s not like we aren’t scoring goals as a team atm.
People booing him when he comes on are highly dislikable imo. It’s not gonna help him or the team especially when his confidence is low. I think it reflects poorly on their characters and how they are as people in wider life.
You need ability to be able to prove people wrong . Before the 2 goals in 30 he was a 1 in 6 merchant so even if he returns to that it is still only 1 in 6 . He struggled to score for Celtic and if you can't score for the dominant team in that league you are not going to score anywhere else .
Edwards lost his way at Forest Green and almost lost an unassailable lead the season before he joined us . I think, he, and a couple of their players know that their chance of a Premier div move are sinking fast and are de motivated. Let's hope so !!!
Unless Tom said to him in the presentation that all he has to do is get on the end of the many simple tap-ins we'll be laying on a plate for him every game, and that he needn't worry about things like not being able to control a simple pass or falling over at the slightest gust of wind, then I don't see how it could be the issue. There is no system that can adequately accommodate a player who seems currently so below par and incapable of doing the basics.
NO. Imagine if we had an on form otter now. Rest of our strikers are gash at best ATM. Bahh is an AM and can't last 90.
He’d probably be on the bench or loaned to Brondby as he couldn’t play lone central striker in a 3 up front.
Yeah, he looks completely out of his depth and unable to get into the game at all. I’d not seen him play before he joined us, or maybe I had and he was as completely unremarkable as he’s been for us, so I don’t remember him. Either way, there’s been nothing to even cling onto in blind hope that he’ll get better.
Sema had an okay game Saturday but nearly all the good defensive work he did against Doak was often recovering from his own poor positioning. On Doak, he looked really dangerous for the first 25 until he dived in front the Rookery. After that the crowd got on his back and he seemed to crumble.
Really, I don't think so. The point is Doak was quicker than him (we know he's 'lost a yard of pace') and also pretty skilful. If you have ever had to defend against a player who's got you for speed you will know how difficult life becomes. I was much impressed with how Sema dealt with that.
The Bayo debate goes on and on. Repeatedly he is referred to as a 'striker'; and it is demonstrably true that he is poor at that. However, it has always been my contention (and it would seem a number of people agree) that he does a lot of other stuff at a reasonable level. That is not to say I am a huge fan. He puts himself about with energy and works the other team's defence hard and he is better as a target man than anybody else at the club as far as I can see (a low bar). Baah does not seem to be a centre forward, although I am a big fan of him coming on as a super-sub and playing more or less on the wing. Jebbison maybe a better bet a long way into the future, but personally I don't see it and am not at all impressed at the moment. As Pob says above (post number 179), we have goals coming from a range of players. But it would be nice to have a proper goal-grabber as well; the best one we had we loaned out. I suspect that all clubs in the Championship feel in need of a good striker. Incidentally, I don't approve of booing our player as he comes on the pitch, (although Louza is a temptation).
There was at least two occasions he failed to cut out a pass and then did well to recover. His one on one defending was good but Middlesbrough were finding a lot of joy early on playing through the gap he was leaving between him and Porteous. That isn't just a lack of pace. I do also think Sema grew into the game and off the back of it deserves a start against Luton but I'm not sure I'd have him as man of the match as some are claiming.
We didn't play well but won. That's a decent sign Jebbison was better and made a couple of decent runs that had them worried. Did also have a chance where he chose not to shoot which is maybe a confidence thing. Not given up on him yet The three centre backs were excellent apart from their chance in the fourth minute. Pollock was superb second half Bayo was poor but booing him certainly is not the answer Dave had a quiet game but hopefully he saving himself for the game on the 19th Good to see Tony Coton (with one T) at the game. A proper legend Bond has done well in Bachmann's absence We have a striker issue in the fact that neither Jebbison or Bayo seems to be the answer. Raj got his 5th goal for Brondby at the weekend not that I think he's the answer either. Baah is not a striker. Not good playing with his back to goal but excellent when facing up defenders The scum look absolutely woeful and suspect if we won there in just under two weeks time it will be the end for Edwards. In the play offs going in to the second international break is far beyond where I thought we would be. We're not the best team in the division but we're certainly capable of being top half and that gives us a chance
I thought Sema’s defending against Doak was excellent, straight from the Lloyd Doyley playbook of ‘How to defend when you’re slower and not as skilful as your opponent’ Well played King Ken.
