Wilmot is the only one remotely suited to midfield as he did a decent job on the few occasions he played there under Javi.

But we've squandered good chances and good approach play all season. Often we over-elaborate, or the final ball is poor or the finishing is poor.

Got the 3 points, and a few promising signs.

Fair play to Gray, took his chances, which hasn't been happening on a consistent basis over the last couple of seasons.

Zinc looked much more comfortable than he's shown in recent cameo minutes. Maybe he's one of those players who aren't suited to coming on as a sub? Anyway, some nice touches in tight spaces, and I think he used the ball well tonight in terms of keeping it and moving between the lines when possible, or playing a simple pass to keep possession. The pass for his assist was really good.

Sarr showing once again the absolute madness that playing up front really was. Get him wide, high up the pitch and he'll cause defenders problems.

Sierralta looks like a real find. Loves defending and doing the dirty stuff like heading balls clear or blocking shots. Fair play on this one, they've unearthed a proper gem. Crazy to think he didn't get a look in earlier this season.

Honestly, the biggest thing that's happened for us this season is Troy getting injured. With him out of picture, we're no longer wedded to a formation that hinders our best players, and the collective spirit looks so much stronger, led by Cleverley and Hughes.

  6. Sarr and Sema were blowing out their backsides at 75 mins, Sema has been like that for several weeks. The right sub would have been to rotate at least one.

TC was clearly in distress after his injury, 2-0 up with 15 mins to go the right sub would have been to protect him from further harm.

I totally agree. Especially for him I watched the match and he was great as allways! When he get used to the more playing style, he will only get better.

Did he even come back onto the pitch? Difficult to tell watching on Sky with its one static camera angle.

I'm a little surprised quite a few people on here and wider social media felt yesterday was an easy game, second gear, wouldn't have drained our fitness too much etc. I agree it was easy on the players mentally and there was little peril from the moment Gray put us 1-0 up. But the team had to work much harder to ensure that than they should have. We let Wycombe play in our half far more than we needed to and although we had a lot of possession it didn't seem like much was the comfortable type where the other team is pinned back and you're playing it around the centre circle looking for a gap.

I'm pretty sure he didn't. Jon Marks, while Cleverly was limping around the touch line, said 'Watford are now down to 10 men'.
It seems to me there are people trying to find things to criticize Munoz for, and they are currently settling on substitutions. Cleverly limped off and stayed off and eventually (Wilmot?) came on for him.

I don't think it was easy. Wycombe, despite having inferior players, have their way of playing and they put Watford under pressure. The fact that Watford could deal with it doesn't mean it isn't hard work doing so.

  13. Gray and Sema went off as planned, and Cleverley a couple of minutes later... I think.

I agree, Norwich only just got a result when the played Wycombe, no games are easy until you get a three goal lead! As Brian Clough said it only takes a few seconds to score a goal!

We're playing great at the moment, but lack of squad depth is our Achilles heel and I think we're going to end up seeing some ragtag line-ups in coming weeks. Feels like we're risking injury to players like Sarr and Sema who are just playing week in week out.
Another great game for Kiko who is my POTS so far. Gray getting two is good for him and us - he clearly had a massive mental block after his dire run of no goals. Pedro still is the man though and needs to come back in up top.
Quite excited by Zinc now, hopefully he starts a few games in a row to really get up to speed. Offers something different, we desperately need that kind of creativity.
But, overall, feels like we're going to face some challenges in centre mid and on the wings with injuries, suspensions and fatigue setting in. Going to need a bit of luck.

A game that was pretty much what I expected. Did a professional job imo. Looking mostly comfortable in the process. We still need a better final ball to make it easier on ourselves. Must be difficult trying to defend against a guy when players just bounce off him, so fair play to the central two in defence.
Gray took his chances that's all you can ask for but still his touch and holdup play was there to see.
Zinckernagel was a great plus. Out of position but put in a great shift is always looking to move the ball forward. Some excellent passes and footwork. Confidence to take aim from distance too. The assist was what I was waiting for he has this in his locker and Gray calmly slotted home. Don't hear that often.
King Ken looks very tired, been saying for the last four atleast that he needs a rest.
Hungbo put in a great delivery and looked tidy in his cameo. So lots of pluses.
Cleverly looked like it was a nasty one. So fingers crossed it wont be long until he's back.
Kiko and Hughes looked fantastic again. Never thought I'd be saying that about Kiko but long may it last.
Overall a decent performance, a clean sheet and on another night would of bagged a couple more goals.
Looking forward to the Florist match now hoping to put the squeeze on Brentford and Swansea.

Nope, he made all 23 appearances for them at centre back (which does make a fair amount of sense, given that that's what he is!)

Compared to some of our recent performances that wasn't particularly great, had we been playing someone further up the league the result may have been different.

Glad Gray got on the scoresheet, good for his confidence and hopefully he can continue in such form for the rest of the season.

Great assist by Zinc, hopefully we get to see him out in his favoured position at some point.

Not for the first time, Kiko MOTM. Pushed hard by Cleverly (whose injury worries me). Hughes up there, of course. Sierrialta and Ekong had difficult and important jobs trying to subdue The Terminator stand-in. They did well. So far - nothing in that is extraordinary.
Much less expected, of course, were the 2 goals by Gray: These were the sorts of goals he used to excel in. What is more, if the final ball in had been better, he was there and ready for more of the same. In fact, I find it hard to fault his game last night: Slot him in just after Kiko in the above list! I can see you now, thinking I have lost it, but I thought he was really good.
Of course, the quality of the oppo may well have been a factor in all this. But it gives Xisco a problem of choice for the Forest match.
If Gray continues to exploit the near-post balls (and if the wingers continue to supply them) at the same rate, we are going up. Two big ifs in there, though.
Bachmann worries me: Good shot-stopper and good distribution, but he fails to dominate the crowded box at set pieces. And indications are that the oppo have sussed this out.
Zinckernagel grew into this game. I don't think we've seen anything like the best of him, yet, though.

Fair enough could have just said mate I would have believed you. I thought I had seen people say that he had played there at times, maybe it was just Javi that seen him as a holding midfielder, he has all of the attributes to play their in my opinion.

I hate game like that when you know you should win and in fact everybody knows you should win but football doesn't always work like that so to win fairly comfortably was excellent. Wycombe were probably the worst team I've seen this year although us in various away games comes close. They have nothing apart from the long ball to the big fella up top. Literally tried no other way of playing. In fairness though, Uche caused us some issues as did the set pieces. Need to look at this as we have Cardiff coming up
Bachman's issues with crosses I would say is now a major problem and would have Foster back in asap. I thought WTE was better last night but helped by the fact they didn't press. He does win some important headers in the box though. Still not a fan of Masina, needs to work with Sema much better
Good to see Zinc get a whole game and while there are improvements to be made you can definitely see an excellent player in there. The pass for Grays second goal is exactly what we have been missing. Seems confident enough and hope he gets a run in the team now
Ahh, Andre Gray. They were not the most difficult finishes although the first one is not as easy as it looks but good news for the team that he did take them as we need him to weigh in with some more goals over the next two months. I thought he held the ball up reasonably, doesn't always stick but it's an improvement.
Munoz. I would have had Sema off much earlier than he did. I don't think Clev ever came back on the pitch so that was fine and giving Kiko a breather was correct. Possibly would have had Perica on earlier but I though he got most things right. Whatever you think of him, his points total is brilliant, we are playing better football and the squad look as though they are enoying things now. Not sure there is too much to be negative about at the moment
    On to Forest
