I've said the same thing myself about Armstrong, though if he didn't cost too much he could be a good left-sided forward (big if though). I don't know where this idea of getting more time on the ball in the Prem came from, but it's surely a bit of a myth in most cases. In general, he'll be more likely to have even less time on the ball, and be up against even quicker opponents.
That is definitely my recollection. In a 3-1 win - must have been September as I was living in Singapore at the time but always back in London in early - mid Sept and was at the Vic for that one
Dont remember it being with his head - was a simple finish at back post in front of the rookery but not sure if head or foot
Oops, was looking at the info on soccerbase and I misread the Millwall game as a 3-1 away defeat with Ash scoring the only goal! Well it was one of his first goals anyway.
Swansea fans and manager seem quite content with that performance. Probably shows how their standards have dipped. Guess once 4th was confirmed they kind of gave up. Fancy Barnsley to beat them.
Watching the highlights and seeing again where he was when he laid the ball off he really did bust a gut to get on the end of Sema’s cross.
There’s nothing wrong with Gray’s effort and enthusiasm. It’s just that he’s not a very good footballer so, given the transfer fee, he’s been a disastrous signing.
That must be so frustrating. Analysing a teams' weaknesses, and coming up with a play that would catch them out, work on it in training, and it's let down by the failure to complete what should be a pretty basic pass
It happens all the time, on average only 3% of corners are scored, with good set-piece staff you can push that to 4-5% but that still means a whole load of corners are messed up more times than they're executed well. That being said I dunno why they created the short with Sema, sticking him in the area or on the edge would've opened up that pass much better
If he weren't signed for £18m with a L*ton past and with two lockdown breaches, dare I say we might like him, but alas we can't hide from that past. Simply as a player, he's starting to grow on me, he's a handful, but very limited and never worth the money we paid him, I'd happily take anything we can get for him at this stage
Does anyone definitively know how much we’ve paid for him, as I’m sure the £18 million represents the max total if all add-ons were paid. I doubt that has been the case. If we’ve ended up paying max £12 million, it’s not quite as bad; until you include his wages, anyway.
Actually I think when we've done this on here before, the original narrative was that it was about £12m with all these mega add ons, but then no real evidence was ever found for that and the only real reporting was basically saying it was much closer to a tragic £18m on the nose. We did buy him straight out from a premier League rival, for a start - how they must have laughed. Would have loved to have been at the party in their boardroom that night.
This is why I don't get the excitement in the crowd when there's a corner*. So rarely does anything come of it. *I also get excited...
I remember that Sheff Utd game. Allan Neilson's last appearance. Sheff Utd had a free-kick/cornet at the Rookery End. Our former captain Robert Page was playing for the Blades and came up for the set-piece. Some wag in the crowd then shouts out "Watch out for that Page. He's lethal!!" Favourite end of season games, the Bristol City one, where Andy Cole scores twice, Luther scores his last competitive goal for the club, Nigel Gibbs scores his usual screamer, 3 Bristol City players get sent off and Watford win 5-2. Also, mid-80's, Watford play Sheff Wed. Earlier on in the season I had a dream in which Luther rises to score with a thumping header from the edge of the area from a cross. Cue the last minute of said end-of-season game, Luther scores that exact goal. What a premonition. Nostradamus eat your heart out.
Can't agree with you on that one. Under Gracia, along with Deeney and Delefeo all 3 served a worthwhile purpose.
