Rose's best game was probably Norwich I think? Even then he was half-arsed defensively, we just weren't punished because Norwich are total gash.

I wanted to do a deep dive on the performance and focus on our defence and it's going to be lengthy, so look away now if you don't want to know the result.

2 mins. City corner. A routine high floated ball into the box. Cathcart not once looks at the ball, he actually has his back to it, and he just looks at Laporte. Laporte just moves to his right and Cathcart for some reason turns the wrong way and is totally disoriented. Laporte has a completely free header, which beats Bachmann, but Pedro is on the line and heads clear. That was really bad defending from Cathcart. Schoolboy stuff.

3 mins. Our shape is all over the place. Again, it's just a simple move by City. Ball played out to Foden. Kiko tries to close him down, but Foden has enough time to cross the ball. Cathcart lets Grealish go but just about makes up the ground and Rose lets Sterling go but doesn't bother tracking at all. That is just criminal. The ball clears Grealish's head, but Sterling runs in to head home with the freedom of the Watford penalty area.

7 mins. Ball played out to Sterling. He takes on Rose on the corner of the penalty area, Pedro comes over to double up. Sterling runs at them both, sends Rose the wrong way but Pedro reads the move and gets a slight touch on the ball as Sterling skips past him. Rose is now out of position and too far away from Sterling to make any sort of challenge. Sterling fires the ball at the goal but Bachmann makes a good save to his left and palms it away for a corner.
From the corner it goes to the back post, Dias nods it back to Laporte who has a wild swing and misses the ball. Had he connected it would have been a goal as he was only 6 yards out. Ball is scrambled away for another corner. Rose is close marking Grealish. Grealish just runs away from him and runs on to a free header totally unmarked. So fortunate the ball goes directly to Bachmann in the middle of the goal and he saves comfortably. Either side of him and it's a goal. Danny Rose at fault again.

10 mins. Gundogan plays in Foden on the right. Kiko is too far away and Foden plays in a first time low cross across the face of our defence. Grealish beats Cathcart to the ball. Takes a good first touch and it looks like a formality goal, only for Bachmann to make a brilliant save with his feet.

So in the first 10 minutes, City have created 6 chances from which they should have scored. We rode our luck to have only conceded one.

20 mins. Grealish is allowed to run into our box far too easily. Both our CB's back off which encourages Grealish to shoot. His shot deflects off Cathcart's knee but Bachmann adjusts really well and makes a very good reaction save.

22 mins. Silva plays in Sterling who runs into our box. Louza is tracking him, but he gets free and is totally unmarked 1 v 1 with Bachmann. WTE comes cross in a last ditch attempt to save the day. but Sterling easily skips past him and the ball runs to Grealish. He has to dig it out a little and gets underneath the shot sending the ball over the bar from a good position.

30 mins. Rose recklessly crashes into Grealish, but the referee plays the advantage. Silva eventually receives the ball on the edge of our box. Plays a simple ball to Gundogan who shoots, but Bachmann makes an excellent save. The ball goes back to Silva, who controls but gets a bit lucky with a ricochet and he fires past Bachmann at his near post. Ironically, Bachmann should have saved the shot and was his only big mistake of the night. The during the entire move, which lasted around 20 seconds, Danny Rose cannot be seen in frame until the last second.

33 mins. Ball played out to Sterling on the right. Rose is standing off which allows Sterling time to cross the ball. Cathcart for some unknown reason goes walkabout running to the side of the penalty box as the ball is crossed in, leaving 3 City players in our area with just WTE and Kiko. So we're overloaded. WTE and Gundogen contest the cross, but WTE is feeble in his desire to head the ball. He ducks out again, and the ball hits his back. The ball drops to the feet of Foden who swivels and sends the ball well wide. It was actually a bad miss from a really good position.

45 mins. Rose standing off Sterling again, who has the easy task of playing in Grealish. He runs beyond our defensive line into the penalty area and squares the ball. This time it hits Cathcart and falls harmlessly to Bachmann to gather.

    Second Half
    46 mins
A one-two played around a static Rose allows Sterling to get on behind to send in a low cross. Cathcart does well to anticipate and cuts it out for a corner. The corner is played short and City engineer another opening. The ball is played to Gundogen, who sees Silva totally unmarked. Only Pedro and Cucho are in near vacinity. Rose is standing on the D just watching. No movement being make to cover the area of the pitch he's supposed to be operating in. Cucho tries to tackle Silva but is behind him. He fires the ball across but somehow it evades Laporte at the far post.

49 mins. Sterling tries a first time volley which hits Cathcart and sails over the bar.

50 mins. Sterling plays a simple ball down the line, Rose is out of position and Walker runs onto it. He squares the ball but this time Watford's defence snuff out the chance.

51 mins. Sterling finds himself 1 v 1 with Cathcart. Sterling takes an early shot but Bachmann is equal to it, making a routine save, palming the ball away to safety.

58 mins. Foden runs at Kiko and fires in a low powerful shot. Bachmann does well to react quickly and parry the ball away for a corner. From the corner, WTE makes no attempt to jump for the ball and sails over his head and falls to Laporte who volleys over from 7 yards. A bad miss. Cathcart was lame in his attempt, basically doing nothing to prevent Laporte from getting his shot away. The only reason he didn't score was because the ball was at a difficult height and slightly behind him.

61 mins. Sterling finds himself 1 v 1 with Cathcart again, but decides to check back and squad to Gundogen. Totally unmarked on the edge of the box, he somehow gets underneath the ball and fires it over. Both centre backs were far too deep by standing on the penalty spot when their players were on the edge of our box. Rose, again out of frame.

    62 mins.
Silva receives the ball inside our penalty area. Takes on Rose and beats him with ease then curls a great shot into the corner of the net. No chance for Bachmann.

65 mins. Grealish advances to the edge of our box. Both our CB's back off. Grealish continues his run and shoots, but Cathcart makes a last ditch lunge and deflects the ball onto the top of the bar and out for a corner.

69 mins. Grealish recieves the ball wide on our right. Sissoko gets tight but he still manages to play in a totally unmarked Mahrez. He fires a low ball across and Bachmann does well to deflect the ball away. Again, no Danny Rose in frame. The ball goes high and Laporte easily takes the ball past WTE, who turns his back, and fires in another shot which Bachmann again saves well.

70 mins. Danny Rose comes off.

72 mins. Mahrez plays the ball beyond Ngakia to the onrushing KDB. No one tracks his run. He has all the time in the world to fire in a low cross and Louza does remarkably well to clear the ball from around 6 yards out.

81 mins. Since the Rose substitution, City start to switch flanks. Sterling goes to the left and advances with the ball. Takes a long range shot which deflects off WTE, who turns his back again, and the ball goes over for a corner.

88 mins. Mahrez gets the ball wide but decides not to take on Ngakia. He squares the ball to KDB, who curls a side foot shot just wide from outside the penalty area.

92 mins. City try a long range speculative shot from Cancelo, well outside the box, and Bachmann makes his easiest save of the match.

    Conclusion
Basically 90% of City's attacks came down Rose's side. City targeted him as Watford's weak link and boy did it pay dividends. Once he went off, the game was far more even. They only had a couple of attacks on their right, then switched to Kiko's side, but didn't get too much change there either.

Probably Ranieri's fault for leaving Rose on for so long. He was appalling, with Troost-Ekong not too far behind.

He’s a creative monster — just doesn’t know how to shoot/finish. But he’s definitely more than pace

Funny that he plays the nice guy act on social media, yet in real life, he and his Stone Island clad group think they’re the new Watford firm.

    What a ****.

Swap him for Podence or Pedro Neto then - the point still remains.

Exactly - I feel almost dirty for criticising Ranieri. But WTE has been given 270 mins recently where he’s stunk the place out but not been replaced. Rose was a disaster on Saturday and was taken off far too late.

It’s my only criticism of him to date - that he’s left on two players who clearly weren’t at the races from the very first minute of these games. Ngakia and Kabasele should have seen far more game time in the last week or so.

I can appreciate a good football team but I'd never call it a privilege to watch one of them run Watford ragged for 90 minutes. Strange choice of words.

Only thing missing is “we’re not worthy to be in the same stadium as these magnificent City players and fans.” I bet he’s gutted it wasn’t 8-0 again so he can worship City with even greater reverence.

Someone please tell me it’s a spam account and not a real fan.

Playing Devil’s advocate for a moment, when Spurs swept us aside 4-1 at the Vic during a miserable cold afternoon in the sleet, at some point I stopped trying to get any joy or hope out of our own performance, and could only admire the quality of their football as they totally outclassed us (they had an awesome team that season, far better than Spurs sides of recent seasons). Without that there was no way to get any enjoyment out of the match, which was at least better than losing to an average-at-best side in a sh1t game. But yes, this tweet is weird - someone professing to be a Watford fan but seemingly going to a match out of a desire to see a top team with some of the world’s best players, like one going to the circus to be entertained and dazzled.

I agree that performance was peak Spurs under Pochettino, with Kane unplayable. However, every other time we’ve played them at home they’ve been underwhelming.

An assist cannot come from nothing. If you assist somebody there has to be at least two people involved so no it can't
