Fan Forum: https://www.skybluestalk.co.uk/forums/coventry-city-general-chat.7/ Three straight wins. Feels good doesn't it? Even if we were lucky in some cases, with TGFC's header not hitting his own team mate (Bayo) on Wednesday as he was doing an impression of a scuba diver leaping off a boat, but in this game you make your own luck. Can we win four in a row? Well the opposition to have something to say about that is Coventry City, a well established and well surpported side from many years who had spent a large chunk of it as a PL mid-table team causing the odd upset. One of their stars of old being Darren Huckerby, who was seen to Coventry as Blissett is to Watford in some regards. They also had the Scotland well 'ard Gordon Strachan as one of their most successful coaches, who lead them to various feats in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Most older fans' will remember them playing at Highfield Road, a quaint small ground that was as noisy as the larger stadiums got when it was rocking. However, recent times have not been as kind to Sky Blues, who had spent many seasons in League One before finally breaking back into the Championship with a young, hungry and vibrant squad, wanting to prove they can re-write history of the golden days and eventually establish themselves back as a top level club. After departing Highfield Road they moved to the Ricoh Arena - a modern stadium with a much larger capacity. Finding success until financial troubles had them unable to play their home games at the start of this season. I think they will make life difficult for us on Saturday, sit deep and play for a draw. Which is something we need to overcome if we want to continue our good from of results. For us, this is not a "must win", but it is a "should not lose" type of game. It's certainly a game we should be winning if we want to continue our charge up the table (something that seemed totally alien after that dreadful night at Millwall), and we have the talent to win this if we keep up the positive momentum. Bilic has got what is ideally a squad of fringe players playing above and beyond these past few games and we actually are starting to look like a capable side. Full credit to him, despite the off-the-field unrest between surpporters and ownership, he has the current playing staff producing good football and it's a nice change from the drudge of last season and some of the games under Edwards short tenure. Still unsure about injury updates at this time of writing but it would great if Davis was back as we looked blunt going forward at Cardiff at times with Bayo holding up and connecting good moves but his finishing is still below par. Pedro had an off night so hopefully he can regain some of his spark and Sema will always dig in. Whether or not Gosling returns to RB or continues his impressive frrom in the middle, with Gaspar moving into his natural position we will have to find out. So to go back to my original question, can we win four in a row? I'm going to say yes, but it will be a tight game and Coventry will push us to try to break them down. Watford 2 Coventry 1
If (as) as have aspirations of promotion, this is a bulk standard win for us, however we are Watford and it's the championship but after three on the trot there will be a tinge of disappointment if we don't end up with three points!
I'm confused by their club crest. In our case we have a badly drawn hart that looks a bit moosey. Theirs is far too busy, the banners are too big but you get the point and there's a white and sky-blue ball, so far so good. Then it goes nuts, an elephant which is a member of the International Red Cross with 3 chess pieces on top of it, then two birds, one kicking the ball and the other is on fire! WTF?
We are a totally unstoppable force now, no-one can prevent our thunderous run to the title, apart from Burnley. Always had a soft spot for Cov as Highfield Road was my first Watford game in 85. 6-1
I expect Cov fans might be a bit miffed to see the old Highfield Road described as "a quaint small ground". It had a record attendance of 51,000 and even at the time it closed as an all-seater it still held over 23,000. Fun Coventry City fact: in 47 consecutive seasons they failed to finish in the top six of any division until they made (and won) the League 2 play-offs in 2018.
Way back when I was a teenager and Watford were in the old Div 3, they faced two consecutive home games as they do this Saturday/Tuesday. At that time I expected Watford to win all their home games, particularly against lolloping northern teams. The results that week against Rochdale and Southport were 4-0 and 4-0. That seemed only normal to me, but I was puzzled that the WO eulogised about it. Of course they were right and I don't remember anything like it happening since. What about this week? Surprise me Watford.
The last thing we need is to Crash to The Primitives. It'll be Mouldy Old Dough for supper rather than a fine piece of bread if we do.
Not sure if this helps, but I found this rather confusing explaination. "What about the present crest then? The dominant feature of the badge, an elephant with a castle on its back and a red and white cross on its side is a traditional symbol for St. George, a more elaborate version of the English Flag if you like. St. George was believed to have lived in the Coventry area. The elephant was the mortal enemy of the dragon because a dragon’s favourite meal was supposed to be a baby elephant. St George was the dragon slayer and therefore presumably hero to the elephants. When Coventry was chartered by the Crown as a city, it was given the elephant as its symbol. The castle on its back shows that the city was given royal permission to build. When the club changed its name from Singers FC to Coventry City they included the illustrious design as the centrepiece of the club’s crest"
No idea who is available and who is still injured for this one but I would be a little disappointed not to get 3 points from this one nonetheless. Coventry are not a bad side but they are not a particularly good side either. Hopefully Davis is back for this one as we just aren't the same attacking threat with Bayo. I would put Choudhury straight back in the midfield and Gosling at right back.
A couple of weeks ago we played Roehampton in the 40s club semi final. I thought the lady playing must be married to Bryan until I saw she only had one 'r' in Fery! She was a top 200 player and her husband owns Lyon or Lille or Leighton Buzzard!
How apt, being as how he appears in Subbuteo terms, covered in Areldite and put on the boiler to dry! I read CC have a touch of the Imodium Town about them. That tricky little scamp Gustavo Kuerten err Hamer is "touch and go" Matron!
Hopefully it's not Hamer time as that could be Kuertens for our chances. Ps before Keighley or WWTW point it out......"araldite".....unless "Areldite" was a Greek god/godess of some sorts. I think I only understand about 42% of your posts .
My god, that's depressing! For the generation(s) that started supporting them after the FA Cup win, they really had nothing to cheer about!
The Rochdale 4-0 was my first ever appearance at Vicarage Road ... believe it was March 1974, in which case I would have been the ripe old age of 8 ....
You are correct; Areldite, younger and less attractive sister of Aphrodite, was the goddess of repairing broken Greek vases that had contained offerings of nectar to the Gods.
