I assume you mean scoring? As he has had a fair few shots this season and is right at the top of many metrics charts when it comes to many of the other aspects he should be judged on.
Good point, and I think this applies a cross the front line. Bayo never finds a way to make himself some space, the ball has to drop to him perfectly and then he's in, but he'll rarely beat a goalkeeper one on one inside the box. I'd also say that Chak is bit too obvious with his runs and regularly dribbles from one corner of the box to the other desperately looking for a chance to put in a worldy into the top corner. I'd say one of our biggest weaknesses in attack is our passing inside the box but maybe it will improve as the season progresses...?
It would help if we just slammed the ball low across the 6yd box more often, rather than trying to thread the eye of the needle with tricky pull backs. Yesterday was a prime example. We must have cut the ball back to between the penalty spot and the D several times without any yellow shirt getting near to it. Though I think this is another symptom of the lack of confidence in Bayo that @Lubaduck highlighted. I think by now his teammates know he's just not the gambling type. He's so rarely going to be busting a gut putting his body on the line to get to a low cross, they end up going for harder options instead. There was an inswinger in the second half yesterday from Louza (I think) which was admittedly a different type of cross but an outright number 9 gambles and throws himself at it 100% and possibly gets there. But Bayo just watched the ball and chased it all the way as it flashed past the post, without ever seeming to commit. So frustrating and we're just in the stands. God knows what his teammates think.
It seems like we need to do some training on what positions players should run into when we get the ball in those areas.
Especially considering how many people QPHaHa were getting back into the box whenever we broke their line, a really driven low cross across the 6yd box is the best option. An absolute nightmare for defenders running at full pelt towards their own goal. Any sort of ricochet can occur and it doesn’t matter who the ball bounces off to go in. All this attempting to ‘pick someone out’ is pointless with about 8 defenders between the penalty spot and goal.
I am certain as I can be that we practise overlap cross and finish drills constantly in which the ball is played into a particular area either near or far post . On match days , however , we appear to take too many touches during the build up that allows the opposition time to recover defensively.
Because he got 4 goals in one match in a freak game. Scored scruffy easy chances against Plymouth and Oxford although he made hard work of those chances. Great finish against Stoke though. So our starting forward has scored in 4 of the 18 games he has played this season.
I suppose the litmus test is how many punters have Bayo as an anytime goalscorer in their bets ? Very few I would assume .
Think I read he's created more open play chances than anyone in the league (his set pieces aren’t boosting his stats that much!), and I think the charges of a lack of end product against him is harsh considering the players in front of him often make a hash of the chances he creates, although for a player of his ability, tired or not, to have only one goal all season so far is disappointing
I'm not sure what the incident is which the two of you are referring to?! I think the two of you need to watch the highlights as your view from the stands might have been incorrect: I think you're referring to when Louza actually placed a curling shot that was heading inside the far post, but the GK tipped it round the post. Bayo didn't really move for it because it was a shot not a cross, and the ball was heading in until the keeper got fingertips to it.
If we had a quick, diminutive striker along the lines of Ighalo or Vydra, I can guarantee you that no one is bemoaning the lack of ‘end product’ for Chakvetadze. The strikers we have (who would be considered ‘starters’) offer nothing for him. Even a non-scoring but strong No.9 would be better for him as he’d hold the ball up and invite Chak and Bath etc to run off him. But Bayo, Jebbison just don’t give that. Chak really does get a pass from me based on the lack of options to him.
Probably doesn't help that players don't pass to Bayo much anyway. There is an element of "no faith" that he will do anything with a good pass into him near the goal. It's a problem he alone has created, and something he needs to address by proving to his team mates he can score goals which are not flukes.
Or do something other than hold it up and pass it backwards as this allows the defence to re group. I stand to be corrected but you have 6 seconds from transition to get a shot away before a disorganised defence recovers .
Probably the stat average yes, but it would depend on how quick said players are at formation shifting. A very defensive side such as Burnley would recover pretty quickly compared to say Plymouth, who fall over themselves to get back to a low block. Or us, who have a flying Scotsman who either has or hasn't had his Quaker Oats before the game!
I am finding RPs 3rd rate, low rent s hithousery very amusing ATM however it is so appallingly bad it is bound to catch him out at some point !!
Shout out for Baah who did the amazing work of repeatedly smashed the defender out of sightand then instead of getting his head up to pick out a free watford player, proceeded to just smash it as hard as he could into the box and hope for the best. Though I guess maybe with Bayo in the box that was possibly the right idea all along!
Talking of Jebbison, has he already left the club? I’m sure it was said he was back for the QPR game, but no sign.
Yes that does seem a bit harsh to critisise Bayo for as it was a good bit of goalkeeping but who knows what might have happened had the ball been pushed into the area by the keeper.
Missing an on running attacking midfielder maybe? Sissoko probably ought to do that but he probably hasn't got the legs and mindset to do so now. Louza would have a good shot on him but he is deeper.
It was a bad day at the office Saturday. It happens, and we are doing well enough this season where you can just shrug your shoulders and start looking forward to the next game!
IIRC in the second half the ball went out for a corner in front of the EJ stand, whilst waiting for our players to run over and take it Bayo started kicking the post and staring into the rookery , meantime the two players (Chak and anor) we had for the corner took it short and the ball was in play as we moved towards their penalty area-Bayo was oblivious to this (new?) technique and still wasn't in play although the ball was-he then regained awareness. Nothing came of the play but crikey what type of "striker" isn't engaged when we are on the attack.
It’s a dot in the distance at 16000 feet. You need to post verified date stamped proof of this nonsense of hummingbird sightings. I think you’re hidden away in your garden shed in a world of your own.
Lots of photos. Will post some in wildlife thread when back. Just to prove how big the hb was, I couldn’t fit it all in the frame At Santiago airport waiting for flight south.
Louza and Bachmann seem to be two of the most abused players in general, I think its good to see them getting some credit. I know Louza has been frustrating and he will always have his deficiencies, but on form he is clearly one of our best players, and brings something different to anyone else we have - a bit more football intelligence than others (even Giorgi, who has loads of attributes but is a bit more headless chicken). I do hope though that its not just a "shop window" thing with him, but instead an actual attempt to knuckle down and contribute. As for Bachmann, well, I think he's a good enough keeper for this level (even at the top of the Champ) - yes there's the odd mistake and attitude issue, but generally speaking, he does a job for us given where we are. If we were promoted (God forbid!) - we'd surely need an upgrade.
Bachmann has done what he can be very good at - shot stopping . Which certainly was just as well ! Louza been decent too in a midfield that has struggled a bit recently .
