I think the criticism of Bachmann is going too far. I actually think he has saved us points many times. He is not confident nor particularly competent coming off his line, but he is an excellent shot-stopper. But for people who are hoping he has a serious injury so that we can't play him - I'm afraid that tells us more about you than about him.
I agree with whoever said Miller is 5x the keeper. The rest is ******* in the wind. Bachman is our #1 and if he isn't crocked has the shirt. He's gone from promising young keeper playing for his country, to liability who sits on the goal line, to solid championship keeper, back to liability, then mad dog captain, then inconsistent and capable of a howler at any point. Sometimes he's man of the match, other times he is villain, I don't recall any other keeper in Watford history making the level of gaffs and brain farts (remember his Kung Fu red card in the wrong box? Lol), but he does no also make a number of good saves. I hope he's not badly injured.
Unfortunately most forums/spaces have degenerated into places where balanced discussion has been ousted by a minority who use it to push their own agendas, and attack anyone whose opinion differs to their own .
People would have less of a problem with Bachmann's average goalkeeping if he didn't come across like such a complete cuunt. Couldn't care less about his injury, it's not like he's died or something.
Bachmann's comedy-level failed Cruyff Turn was not his finest moment but he was semi dropped in it by a back pass (from Sierrielta?) when there were opposition in close attendance. Which brings me to this fashion for in-the-box tippy-tappy goal kicks: It's OK for Man City and Arsenal world-class defenders but we don't have any of them. Strangely the ball is usually played back to Bachmann for him to play it long. Or it ends up with Sieralta, whose passing worries me. I think he is the weakest outfield player for passing in the squad. This is playing to our weaknesses, not to our strengths. Why do it?
Trouble was when he did kick it long we had no focal point to compete in the air either as we have no one who can do that .
Yes Abdi spot on when he mucked up the back pass trying the silly flash turn, hes flapping about moaning at the players , just hold your hands up! say sorry Di@k head
I don’t think that’s true at all, the biggest weakness in Bachmanns game is his unwillingness to leave his line. In the Miller days long balls and crosses into the box were far more common place, so he would’ve been a disaster. Also comparing an outfield player messing up a cruyf turn compared to a keeper isn’t meaningful, when a keeper does it then obviously it has to be successful 100% of the time, and there is actually no merit in them doing it, so it’s just a brain dead thing to do with no upside at all, so it’s understandable a keeper gets criticism for merely just trying it. The job of an outfield player like Chak is to create chances, and they will naturally make errors doing that. It’s comparing apples and oranges.
Hence the reason I quit Twitter. I was tired of seeing petty squabbles of Watford fans' moaning over the smallest things and turning what should of been a nice casual chat into a full blown argument hash tagging other people into it.
So he comes across as a 'complete cuunt' to someone who sits many yards away from him, doesn't know him and has very very likely never had a conversation with him. Rightio.
Chak has also had bang average strikers in front of him all season which must impact on his decision making (despite which he has still put numerous chances on a plate for teammates this season), meanwhile I don't think even our shaky defenders can give Bachmann a pass for the mistakes he's made this season
His biggest issue isn’t his teammates - it’s his dreadful shooting and running up blind alleys. If I could choose who to be on the end of that brilliant chance he fluffed yesterday he would have been towards the bottom of the list.
Granted, his shooting is poor, but would he run up blind alleys if he had a good striker who could reliably get on the end of his chances and put them in the back of the net? Besides, he gets on the ball, charges up the field and gets us into dangerous positions so often, it’s inevitable that he’ll fluff it sometimes, I think it’s easy to forget all the times he does produce, he's the least of our issues right now
I think we have two of the best midfielders in the division in Louza and Chak, but neither can really show themselves being productive in a team goal because we have two duds up front most of the time who cannot score from five yards out and fluff chances most of us on here would get closer at scoring. It must be annoying for them to see any hard work they do in getting the ball in a good position just needing a "striker" to finish the task as best they can. It does worry me, that will may lose Chak, Louza and Baah to better sides if they continually get frustrated with the output of the strikers. I never think negative of either of them missing a chance as they are not strikers by nature, but we rely on those players more than anyone else to get the ball over the halfway line. When it gets into the final third of pitch, it's a case of "should I shoot myself or pass it Jebbayo?" Some other Championship sides don't have the talent we do in the midfield but have much better strikers than we do, which almost makes us having a good runner from the middle obsolete.
I’d say perceptions of his character play directly into why some of the crowd have lost confidence in him. In the footballing sense he does come across as a bit of a b3llend - flappy arms, dithery decisions, moaning at teammates, diving on the floor feigning injury, getting involved in spats on the pitch he doesn’t need to or popping back at the crowd like he’s done before and apparently did yesterday. He can absolutely do anything of those things, and is hardly alone in the modern game even with the last one. But it’ll inevitably have consequences.
Where's this false narrative that he's an "excellent shot-stopper" even coming from? He is below league average for shot stopping (and every other metric). He's awful.
I wonder what we now do regards our keeper next Thursday? Normally we’d have played Bond in the cup matches, but if he’s now our number one for a while would we take that risk?
Thank you. I can think of so many games where he's panicked, took an unnecessary step to the side at the last minute and the ball has gone straight through him. I mean look at Leeds away!! It's such a myth he's "an excellent shot stopper". The same people used to say Andre Gray generates space for his team mates to excuse his lack of goals.
Yuck. No thanks. New GK please. Hope TC goes and asks for Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton on 6 month deals.
Not sure. Is he match fit? I cannot remember the last time he was on the bench let alone starting. I think it could be a bit of baptism of fire going to a midtable PL side and us getting stuffed. He might want to never be called up again!
...because whatever he does he'll be playing to one of our weaknesses ! Take the point though, I'd rather we lost the ball in their half of the pitch than our own penalty area.
Bachman could be a good keeper, he can stop shots but he is too prone to mistakes. When he has done something stupid he shouts at the team as if it’s their fault, he is also more than capable of starting an argument with anybody anywhere on the pitch. We have let in 36 goals this year so far , way more than most of the top 10 teams in the league, lots of these are team errors(is t the GK in charge of marshalling the defence) but the difference is that if you watch the keeper yesterday or the QPR the game before they seem more composed, are able to kick out to their own team reducing pressure, how many goals have we seen coming from a **** clearance or poor passes playing out from the back. I think a no nonsense keeper who can keep calm and kick to our own team would be a massive upgrade, not sure if Bond is that man though.
