We still have Doumbia, and yes Bayo got us an likely point at Cardiff and pulled us out the fire with a good header to be fair to him. If Raj does end up back before the season ends then it does open up more options for the starting XI. But then again, I can see Raj being used as our "super sub" again we need a goal in the closing stages.
I can’t wait till I don’t have to watch Bayo anymore. I can accept limitations but his sheer inability to control a football or his body for that matter, is so frustrating and is just anti football. His first touch bounces all over the place, his limbs flying around like he can’t control them; what an ugly footballer to watch. Strikers are the best part of football and this man is certainly not that.
I might of been mistaken but wasn't there one point today where the ball was hit to him and he managed to get two yards in front of the ball and not in behind it? Your supposed to judge the flight of the pass not run further ahead of the intended position. Might of been a different game I am thinking of, but today bar one good cross for the Vata chance he had the touch of a Trampoline. Doumbia is worth a go from the start. TC has to stop this insistence he starts every single game. Give Doumbia 45mins and see how he does. It's hardly going to be any worse?
All of your post is true, and utterly maddening, and this is what really gets to the heart of it - when your striker gets hold of the ball, the natural response is to be excited. It's an electric feeling, either watching them sprint into space with/receiving a pass and bearing down on goal, or getting on the end of a ball into the box, ready to strike. We got a glimpse of that vicariously just a few days ago with that despicable PNE Orc. The anticipation of waiting for the player to drop that hammer and strike the ball goalward is almost unparalleled. Genuinely, that is not at all true when it is Bayo in those situations. It just isn't. The weight of evidence is absolutely damning to the point your brain already knows it's not worth getting excited, and that his technique and execution are so bad that it will rob the moment of its majesty, its visceral thrill, its beauty, even if he does (as very rarely) somehow manage to manipulate the ball into the back of the net. Outside of all that he costs us as a team in terms of missed opportunities, failed conversions, and points dropped, it's this that really sticks in the mind and craw. He's effectively removed the position of centre forward from the experience of watching Watford play.
He is always slow to get back onside. Particularly when trying to half arsed chase down the keeper. The other night ball was with Bond but he couldn't kick it long as Bayo was still offside. No wonder we tap it around so much at the back.
Again, the basics of football just don't seem to be there with this guy. Air shots is another thing. I accept non-striking players to miss a few attempts but when you are literally yards from goal and you kick the air (which is he has done a few times this season) it's maddening.
Like the half arse attempt to stop the cross for the first goal. I've watched it again and again and just gets me more angry.
Agreed. If he gets put through one on one you have no faith he will control the ball before a covering defender gets back . Even if he does I’m expecting him to miss if he is put through and competing with a defender both facing the goal I don’t think I’ve ever seen him successfully come away with the ball. I can’t remember what it’s like watching a striker play for Watford who could do these things .
Recently we must have had the worse set of strikers at the club for many a decade ability wise ? Bayo Rajovic Davis Manaj Jebbison
He's f*cking terrible, Doumbia looks so much better. After Doumbia came on he controlled the ball and used a bit of skill to spin away from two or three players, I thought I've never seen Bayo do that ever. He's so wooden, everything is done in straight lines. Doumbia has shown in the last two short appearances that he can drop deep to link the play and run in behind. Give the kid the minutes over this waste of space.
Obbi Oulare. The blokes 29, scored 10 league goals in his entire career. Despite the fact he’s spent a portion of it playing in the Belgian 2nd tier of football. The epitome of a Walter Mitty footballer. Genuinely think i’d have a better goal return if I had a crack at being a professional striker for 10 years!
Or are we getting mixed up with that youth player we had called Ogi that went to Man U and seems to have totally disappeared? Also there was that big hope from Reading too who played about 5 minutes? Are there no Troy Deeneys or Danny Graham's out there from the lower leagues who might want to come. Or have the Pozzos been so so put off by the Andre Gray deal that they don't look at the English market now?
That was Ogo Obi, think he players non-league now. The Man United bit was a reference to bigger clubs like United supposedly wanting Oulare when we signed him.
Yes this - it was suggested MU were interested in him so was a coup that we managed to sign such an exciting prospect.
