Well, there have been enough Mogi Bayat/rule of eleven related jokes made about him, but I wonder if he'd have been useful today as a physical presence to help us hold on to the ball more
He has been brought in with 352 in mind, unfortunately we can't utilise him yet until Dennis/Sarr leave. Can't leave Pedro out of the team currently.
As Uncle Ron said last night on his Twitter thing, it's amazing how £5m was found so quickly for Bayo. In fact money is laid out very willingly when Mogi Bayat is involved in the deal.
I for one am absolutely shocked he's already looking like a complete dud who will barely even make the squad, never mind score any goals.
We’d never spent a penny in the championship under Gino before buying this guy, I would’ve hoped/assumed when we finally did it would’ve been on someone good who could maybe even influence matches, or even just start them.
That Bayo deal is looking better every day. Edwards actually wanted someone like Davis but instead we got him Bayo at the start of the window while being double-teamed by the Bayats. Now we have a player that Edwards doesn't rate clogging up the squad list and wage bill. Been here before haven't we?
I don't get why we signed him. Yes, of course it triggers all the Bayat jokes, but in our financial position we can't be spending £5m on a backup non-homegrown striker. It's insane.
Well it certainly wasn't the ideal scenario for him to come on and make his debut, rather predictably didn't get much of an opportunity to show what he could do going forward, but he put in a shift at the back at least!
Looks more than just a lump, got a bit of mobility. Mogi Bayat has done it again ladies and gentleman.
I was expecting him to look a lot more shyte. Encouraging how he looked to have a turn of pace. It’ll be interesting to see how much of a chance he gets with Davis coming in.
Yeah, imagine questioning a player who was available for a fith of the price a few months ago and whose deal was brokered by the Bayat brothers. #Entitlement #Wecouldhavebazincharge
Haha some people are actually going to start lording it over us because this guy came on and ran around for half an hour. He's still filed under dud until he actually does something.
Yeah don't see anyone particularly defending the inflated price tag, more wanting to actually see him play football before labelling him as a waste of space. But keep arguing with those imaginary people.
He scored 11 in 19 goals in a league as strong as the championship, maybe better. Surely that shows he has got the potential to do well, or be given an opportunity. Not saying he will be a success, like any new signing he can go either way. But it does make me laugh that he is written off before he is even given a chance.
Written off because of the Bayat connection. All buys through Bayat will have that extra hurdle unfortunately.
Some of those goals were from corners/fantastic crosses. Which means they won’t be replicated in a Watford shirt.
Surprisingly seemed to have a turn of pace. He seemed to have a flailing style but could be a good, disruptive sub. Still don't think £5m actually left our bank account for him though, it reeks of something or the other.
I get the Mogi stuff, but it’s not his or any other players fault. I’ll judge him on what he does. Put a shift in and some good defensive work when we had our backs to the wall.
I feel for him and Asprilla, thought they would get a good run then Kamara gets sent off and it is all hands on deck time. He did clear a few balls away when we need it though.
It’s fair though. We have tied ourselves closely to a man facing financial crime charges. Why would transactions through such a person not face increased scrutiny? Any competent business owner would distance themselves pending the outcome of the court case (and he may well be innocent of course). Why do you find it unfortunate to increase scrutiny when there is such a red flag?
I thought the Scots Premier was the equivalent of the Championship and he only scored 2 in 16 up there. So do we take the average across both divisions and apply the equivalent of the cold, wet Tuesday night in Stoke variable?
Completely fair to have extra scrutiny about the nature of the transfer, the fee paid, and the Mogi connection. Let's imagine we'd signed a 25 year old English striker, who'd just scored 11 in 19 in the Championship. Do you think he'd be labelled as a dud, 2 games into a season, when he hasn't stepped on the pitch?
He played a grand total of 9 games up there and scored 2. Either way that was 3 or 4 years ago. His most recent form produced a much better goals /games ratio than Dennis in Belgium. He seems to have been written off because of his agent, and that is fine if people want to do that. Personally I’ll gudge him on what he does over the course of the season. I frankly don’t care if the agent was Dolly Parton
You’re using Wikipedia stats though and according to that, Dave Bassett is our greatest ever manager I got my info from Celtic’s local rag when they sold him. However, I’m also willing to give him a chance, given I’ve only seen him play for a few minutes
Nope but that's the nature of our weird relationship with Bayat. For what it's worth I thought he looked promising when he came on on Friday - pacy, lively and did what was required of him defensively. The home grown rule does help him either as he ends up not being in match day squad which leads to thinking he is in the Kalu bucket. Let's see what he can do.
I'm willing to give him a chance as well. That said, I've no idea why you don't care that we are so closely linked to an agent who is facing financial crime charges.
