Looking forward to reading all the Leicester fans comments who "never wanted him anyway" "overpriced" etc. What a brilliant day this has been, this is the most important piece of business of the summer in my opinion. Whether he's stayed through loyalty, a massive contract or the plans for the club from the owners are big enough that he's willing to turn CL football with the champions down has got to be very exciting for us! I do love the casual way they announced this, I think they had a bit of a laugh writing this article didn't they!
For a 28 year old player to turn down Champions League football in order to stay at the Vic is a massive vote of confidence in the club. I wonder what the plans were that the Pozzos told him? I don't doubt they were impressive and I don't doubt they're capable of achieving them.
The man almost single-handedly dragged us over the line in the second half of the season...having previously set up most of Iggy's goals in the first half of the season....having previously scored 20+ goals for the 3 previous seasons. Then when the Premier League Champions come calling he signs 5 year contract .....with us. Staggering. (By the way, large numbers of Walsall fans have probably just exploded)
Brilliant news. It does mean that we have turned down circa £63m on two players and depressed Walsall fans for decades.
I think I'd be inclined to agree. While players such as Barnes were more skillful, I can't think of a single Watford player who has ever achieved so much for us AND has walked away from big money moves to other clubs because he wants to remain with Watford. It's easy to be loyal when no one is trying to throw tens of millions into buying you. Deeney is a member of a very, very small and exclusive club at this point. I'm sure he'll have something to prove this season, too...Iggy is attracting bigger bids than him, and Deeney won't stand for that.
Deeney and Blissett share joint 1st, through really Deeney I think usurps him as he in theory showed more loyalty than Blissett in turning down big money moves when you couldn't begrudge him. (You couldn't begrudge Blissett for it though)
I think he made it clear the fact the owners have massive plans & ambitions for the club was a big part of him signing. If we'd sold our top scorer, might he not have done so?
Deeney >>>>> Blissett Stuck with the club when big money offers came in + doesn't spend half his time ******* up to Bournemouth
Our greatest ever captain and our greatest ever player. He got us up, kept us up and has just turned down the Premier League champions to stay with us. Won't be long until he becomes our all time top scorer either. Money can't buy you Troooyyy
I think it is time for a part of this website to be called 'Deeney's Den' now, he is that much of a legend. Fantastic!
Can we change the thread title to "Confirmed" Deeney Staying. It will make me smile every time I see it on the title page.
