I’m sure that after several months of not really being able to travel freely around Europe or the wider world, many of us have spent our time in lockdown dreaming up a wish-list of places we can’t wait to visit once things improve.

    So where is on yours?

(I haven’t created this thread as an excuse to moan again about the stupid traffic light system lol. I genuinely interested where people hope to visit once we can again)

Was supposed to go to Thailand in Summer 2020 so it is next on my list still.

Hoping for a bit of a tour around S. America for my honeymoon (~5 weeks) in 2023.

I really want to visit Turkey again as it's one of my favourite destinations, but it isn't covid that's my current concern about the place.

Similarly was due to go to Thailand in Dec 2020 and now rescheduled but unlikely for Dec 2021.
Chile/Argentina is also on our list.
Ethiopia when domestically it calms down there.
    Back to Costa Rica.
    Japan
    Northern Aus

We were supposed to be going to Lake Como and then having a relaxing drive and nose about northern Italy for our honeymoon last summer so I guess that’ll be our first get away.

For a holiday I'd take anywhere really. For the kids' sake we'd hoped to take them to Disneyland some time over the next couple of years. It was never going to be this year but I hope it's an option again before they grow out of the phase where they believe every character is real. Though I know from speaking to others they'd probably have a good time whenever we manage to get there, we'd like to do it while they're not overly influenced by what friends at school say etc.

Countries I've not been to that I'd like to visit are Australia, Cuba and Costa Rica. Plus one thing I'd like to do is to watch an England test match in the West Indies.

I'd like to go anywhere. There are a number of countries I've not visited that I'd love to go to - South Africa, Chile, Vietnam, Cuba and more, but there are also countries I've loved, that I'd like to take the kids to - India, Greece, Egypt, Australia, NZ.

I'd also love to go to Thailand every other year if I could afford it. That place just makes me happy. Love it there.

Whatever you do, don’t miss Costa Rica. Sensational if you’re interested in wildlife.

Seconded. The best place I have visited for wildlife, better than Africa and Asia.

Anywhere would be nice. We were supposed to be in Portugal for a wedding in August that was cancelled from last summer but not surprisingly it's been cancelled again. Kids would like to go Australia and New Zealand, a safari and The Maldives. They may have to settle with Gran Canaria!

Really excited about booking a trip to Aylesbury, and enjoying such things as:

    Tesco’s on Tring Road
    Bon Appetite kebabs
    Ring road traffic
Sausage roll and a pint in the Kings Head
    Dirty little chavs
McCoy’s fish and chips in Bedgrove

What a world we live in.

We had planned to do a Madrid/Lisbon double header this summer so hopefully we can do that next summer. I would also like to explore more of the Greek islands. I always enjoy trips to Germany and would like to go back to Dusseldorf as that always delivers.

We have a 3 night trip to Lapland booked for 19th December, our daughter is 6 which is the perfect age to go - fingers crossed.

As a well-travelled person (around 60 countries) my challenge this summer is a UK holiday that doesn't involve fighting for space. We were looking at the NW500 in Scotland but half the UK and their brother seem to want to do the same! We'd like to go wherever other people aren't. Any suggestions?

Once we're allowed to travel abroad again, a trip around the 'Stans on the Silk Road in Asia is top of my wants list.

Ooooh nice - I absolutely love Italy. Lake Como, the Amalfi coast, Sicily and Sardinia are my favourite places.
As for places I’d like to go to - well, for starters, I’d be really happy if the holiday to Greece that we rolled over from last year happened. But I also really want to go on safari, which I’ve never done - South Africa is on my wish list for this as I’d also like to visit Cape Town and do the wine tour.

I did this a few years ago and it was incredible. Make sure you don't miss out the Derweze gas crater in Turkmenistan and Lake Issy Kul in Kyrgyzstan

Safari's are amazing if you love wildlife/birds.
A great first safari could be a self drive where you fly into Cape Town, stay a few nights seeing the penguins, table mountain etc, drive to the wine region, garden route, go to the Karoo area and watch the meerkats get up and leave their burrows at first light, 3 or 4 nights at one of the "managed" reserves like Addo elephant NP or Amkahla game lodge (we stayed there), then drop car at, and fly home from, Port Elizabeth.
Then if you love the safari you can do others in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, Zambia, Kruger etc - all a bit different. Ugandas was our favourite.

Many places I’d like to go in the wider scheme of things - but in potential realistic terms this year, would love to get to Lecce in Italy and venture out to Gallipoli as well. Potentially via Bologna.

I have dreams of a simple cottage/villa, pool, copious amounts of alcohol and simple, amazing food.

Did that when following the England cricket team around the world a few years back. Cape Town is lovely and there also some other beautiful towns very close bay, Hout Bay was lovely and had the best fish and chips I've ever had in my life there. Good for diamond shopping as well if of interest. Safari though, Kenya is incredible

The lakes are good in Kenya, the Kili backdrop and sheet number of elephants at Amboseli are great, but we thought the Masai Mara was awful. Really over-congested, lion prides circled by trucks, each trying to get their guests nearer to get a bigger tip. We got our guide to leave after giving the other jeeps a mouthful. Wasn't an isoloated incident.
Just south of there, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania were fab. The Serengeti is the the Tanz side of the Masai Mara but about 10 times the size so much more space and you could drive for hours without seeing another truck. That was 10 years ago though so may have become more commercialised.

I loved Ngorongoro. Teeming with wildlife (we had to move our truck so the most enormous bull elephant wouldn't walk over us - it wasn't chasing us, we were just in its path as it ambled through) and not that busy humanity-wise, although it was 18 years ago now. My experiences of the Masai Mara and Serengeti were similar to yours. Chobe in Botswana is a great place for elephants as well!

Yes liked Chobe. We did a drive up through Namibia, Right at Etosha and then along the Caprivi strip through north Botswana and ended up at Vic falls after a quick safari in Zambia. Very safe and easy to self drive though frequent dung beetles hitting the windscreen at 70mph made us jump !

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody who has posted on this thread I started. It’s a lovely positive discussion and so many wonderful places getting mentioned.

I guess we all took foreign travel for granted, and most of us used to say ‘hmm I will visit X or Y another year’. What covid has done is made us miss it all, realise we have to make the most of every travel opportunity we get, and when it becomes easier again I really hope everybody who has posted here manages to see some of the places on their wish-lists.

We saved for a few years and booked a trip to New Zealand for Feb 2021, obviously cancelled.
We rebooked to go Feb 2022, crossing our fingers we get to go. Doing an organised tour of both islands so really looking forward to it.
