I don't know how many times I can criticise the new owners before it breaks through this wall of nonsense? They're vile, they're abhorrent, they shouldn't own a club. But I, like the rest of the fanbase, have zero say in who owns the club. So, what exactly would you demand of us, that you haven't demanded of Man City, Chelsea, and so on?

re: the knackers in headscarves. They were vastly outnumbered by those not wearing them. There were loads of photos of the dozen or so idiots, but what about the 10s of thousands who weren't?

  3. The Fish

    The Fish Academy Graduate

    No, it's really not.

They shouldn't own a club. Ashley can't be described as investing in the club if his investments have been surpassed in 1 window. These two things are both true and not mutually exclusive.

Big fees for Mitrovic, Thauvin, Almiron, Shelvey, and Wijnauldum too. The most expensive squad ever assembled following relegation taking you to a huge title victory and bounce back with a very prominent manager.

What part have I ‘entirely’ made up?

    Are you a PL club?
Was Ashley putting you out of business?
    Were you in huge debt?
Did he spend good amounts on players?

So you spent more this January than in previous years? Easy when you have blood money. It’s not something to endorse.
You weren’t a European regular before him either.

This whole ‘Newcastle are a sleeping giant’ spiel has been done to death and I don’t blame Ashley for wanting out as many of your fans are in denial about what you actually were.

It’s been surpassed by literally the blood money wealth of one country. You make it sound like anyone would have come in and outspent Ashley and that’s patently not true.

I don’t think that stat shows much other than the fact that Ashley preferred to spend big in the summer and stay out of the January market - which is genuinely wise since that is a far worse and worse value market to shop in.

To be fair, despite the blood lusting murderous owners, the entitled support and Eddie Howe as manager - I still hate them less than Arsenal.

Strange isn’t it, we have a thread where a lot of our fans are saying they want the current owners out and would be happy to return to being a championship club (i.e. less successful) to achieve it. It’s almost like money isn’t the be all and end all.

Meanwhile the Newcastle fans protested for years against an owner who ran them as a PL club for many seasons and profitably too, yet as soon as they’re taken over by the Saudis apparently there was nothing they could’ve done about it, no point protesting as it won’t work, so instead let’s go running round Newcastle city centre in Saudi head gear celebrating like we’ve individually won the lottery. I mean look, we don’t like it, honestly we don’t, but what can we d0? May as well enjoy it ay? It’s not like protesting and moaning and generally being unhappy all the time got rid of Ashley is it…?

It’s almost like all they care about is the cash at the expense of absolutely anything else, yet this Newcastle guy keeps saying that isn’t true which makes it all so confusing, and he keeps repeating it over and over, which definitely adds more legitimacy to what he’s saying. I think if he says it a couple more times I’ll believe him.

Well as long as the bloke expressed he was uneasy with human rights violations, he’s really done his part on the ethics front…

Just accept it. You got bored having an owner who was keeping you up, but where you had no chance of glory. You think that having the potential to win football matches is more important than out of sight human suffering, and you’ve invested a lot of your identity into being a Newcastle supporter, so why should victims trump your enjoyment after a hard week?

Many people bought blood diamonds after all. Other fans whose owners violate human rights don’t care. Why shouldn’t you, like them, turn the other cheek, for the chance to rack up some more EPL points?

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve never really been able to put a finger on why, but I’ve despised Arsenal for as long as I can remember.

Maybe it traces back to my formative years, when I was about to sign Juninho on CM2, and my Arsenal supporting mate clicked “No” when I was supposed to confirm the deal. When we resubmitted bids, the ***** chose Arsenal, therefore forcing me to sit and watch as the Brazilian wizard fired my pal to the title. Sickening.

    What’s your story?

I remember reading years and years ago the apocryphal story of the little boy settling down to watch the Cup Final on the TV with his father.
“Who are we supporting this year, Dad?”
“Oh, we always support the London side, son. Unless it’s the Arsenal.”

I hate Spurs more than Arsenal, being being born in the early eighties, Italia 90 meant every kid at school ended up supporting Spurs. It was the equivalent of being a glory hunting Utd fan, but even though I went to school in Surrey they’d all try and justify it by claiming it wasn’t like supporting Utd because their dads were miraculously all from near ish to north London, so that’s why they supported Spurs.

I'm a Newcastle fan, I can state that Mike Ashley was a bad owner. Ex managers and players ay he was bad. The journalists agree he was a bad owner, Mike Ashley himself says he was a bad owner.

From the outside, other fans may see survival in the Premier League, and a minority of £10m+ signings as evidence that they're all wrong and he's been a positive for Newcastle United, but that would be misinformed.

  22. The Fish

You made up the claim I've turned a blind eye to the crimes of the new owners.
We've dropped out of the Premier League twice in his 14 years despite the previous 14 not only surviving, but regularly playing in European competition.
We were in over £100m debt
He spent less on players per season than the previous owners, under Mike Ashley we had a c£7m net spend per season. He oversaw a transfer strategy that entailed finding a bargain abroad, regardless of what the squad needed, so they could be sold at a profit. Arguably that's a reasonable strategy if married to long term planning, good coaching, good training facilities and producing talent of your own. But it was scattergun and broken.
We were in Europe 12 of the 14 seasons before him. That's pretty regular if you ask me.

I have no real idea about the running of your club. From an outsiders perspective it appears that your owners use the foreign markets to find cheap imports in the hope of selling them for a profit, not necessarily what's best for your first team. And that you rattle through managers like nobodies business because the owners are happy to gamble on a new man. If you told me that wasn't the case and showed that I'd got it wrong, I'd take your word for it, because as a Watford fan, you're definitely better informed than I am about your club.

Why isn't that the case the other way around, do you think?

They've already pumped more money into that team than the previous owner managed in 14 years, one of the minority owners has been to a few of the games, after the takeover, so... yeah, they are sorting it out.

I mean, they're doing it so they can say they did and get a little more shine on the Sportswashing attempt, but they're still doing it.

I don’t see how this comment is a response to my comment. I did not say he wasn’t a bad owner. But this claim/perception that Ashley was a uniquely bad owner with unique underinvestment in the club just does not seem to be borne about by the facts and the data.
As I said in a previous post, they haven’t spent more in 14 years than Ashley has, they have spent more than he has in a January window. That doesn’t show really Ashley’s stinginess but instead shows that the club historically prioritised the summer window, is in a uniquely desperate situation and has an ownership group that is in control of transfers for the first time.

Probably still trying to justify themselves supporting them under this regime. It's cringe worthy stuff. To be fair to "The Fish" there are plenty of other Newcastle supporters also doing this. A sad indictment on humanity tbh.

    You've misunderstood.

I didn't say Ashley was a uniquely bad owner. His poor ownership is born out by facts and data. More debt, lower league finishes, lower net spend per season, flat-lined commercial growth, lower % of capacity in the ground, etc. Since his takeover we've seen lower net spend than Brighton, Fulham, Sunderland, Stoke, Wolves, despite spending more time in the top flight than all of them (and thus receiving greater income from media deals).

Again, you've misunderstood, the new owners have spent more on the Women's team already, than Ashley had in 14yrs.

Well, yes. I'd go so far as to say that just because an idiot is wearing a headscarf they wouldn't, when pressed, say they're in favour of the atrocities carried out by the Saudi regime. It's more likely that they haven't even considered what wearing a headscarf looks like to other people.

I did misread the comment about the women’s team. I thought it was referring to the January spending fact that PIF spent more this January than Ashley had spent in January windows combined which I’d seen you mention and many others on Twitter so that was what I was responding to.

Your debt level pre-Takeover was pretty low - much lower than most PL clubs and lower than United, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester. Your wage bill in 19/20 was the 11th highest in the league. Wage expenditure is a much more meaningful metric about player expenditure than net spend and I would imagine that Newcastle’s is 8th or 9th highest in the country over the period of Ashley’s ownership and higher than all the clubs you’ve listed. I don’t know why you think I have misunderstood. I have a different opinion. It is informed by certain facts and certain perceptions and it is rude to suggest it must be because I have misunderstood. Whether or not you have said it the prevailing opinion among Newcastle fans seems to be that Ashley was uniquely bad and the data doesn’t stack up, I’m afraid.

A joke is a joke, but this profile is disgusting. I'd never create such a vile persona.

How anyone can come on here and blatantly defend such barbarity and human rights atrocities is an affront to the nature of this forum.

As I say, worse than the Scousers they are. Self righteous in the extreme, right up to the point where it affects their own interests.
