Doesn't Young primarily play in the right? He is quite versatile anyway so could probably do a job in a number of positions at Championship level.
He’s surely an upgrade upgrade on Ngakia and Andrews, not to mention the winning mentality, leadership and high expectations of his fellow professionals he’d add to a group who haven’t always been the strongest mentally. Unless his legs have totally deserted him, I’d say this is a great signing for us.
Considering he’s just come off a season where he’s played 32 times in the Prem, his legs would have to have gone extremely quickly for him not to be of use in the Champo
He can also play on the left at back or wing back. Plus he can do a job at front, and don't forget he is a great set piece player.
Hard to believe he was converted to a full back after what he did here. His technique on crosses is up there with the best in England, don't need pace for that. Bit late though, perhaps a coaching role slated as well.
If his wages aren't ridiculous I think it's a smart signing. He's had 19 year career at the top level, that only happens if you're a great pro who looks after themselves. He's exactly the sort of player you want in the dressing room for the young players coming through. Is he going to play 46x 90 mins? Absolutely not. But 30 cameos I can see
If it does happen , his dead ball skills will be extremely beneficial. Obviously he would have to kill 2 or 3 of our players who think they can hit a good corner/free kick/cross/penalty to get to the ball! Likely, as said before, to be tied to getting his coaching badges as well. Also likely to be a bit part player but excellent attitude in the changing room with his vast experience. Btw, I always remember him playing on the left predominantly but capable on the right. Ambidextrous.
Will he be better than the 2 young South Americans Dux said we had signed for this season ? Not seen them announced yet.
according to the watfordway on X, we have reportedly made a 2.5m offer for Denis Dragus. The particular tweet wont load so perhaps its been taken done/bs
Rarely have I seen a player tick more Pozzo boxes: - Previously owned by a Belgian club for five years - Hasn't fulfilled early career promise - Had a ligament injury last season Has started in all three internationals for Romania this year. At 25 years of age it's a complete toss-up which way his career will go from here, much like Chakvetadze when we signed him.
Quite worrying but apparently due to a 20% sell on clause we still retain on Sancho we are having to pay Man Utd £1M for his return from Chelsea.
Eh? Can someone cleverer than me simplify this? What's the equivalent situation if I was trying to get on a bus.
What is concerning me now is that we still haven't got anyone through the door up top . Given that it has been blindingly obvious for some time now that this area on the pitch needs updating you would have been excused for thinking that the recruitment department would have done their homework from January onwards with a view to concluding any deals asap. What I am fearing is a "look who's back !" message on the Watford FC socials .
The most difficult position and most expensive position to recruit for. If our #1 target can't be confirmed til August but our poorer #2 is available, do we compromise now or wait and take a risk ?
I take your point but the wheels in motion should have been in place 6 months ago . For example Hector Kypriano.
Maybe wheels are in motion ? I doubt we will get to July before they think "tell you what, we probably need a striker or two....". HK was very much the exception to the rule. Most deals happen late in the window as players have evaluated all their options and clubs know they are getting the best deal and have any required replacements lined up.
Well, we shall see because the same issues and concerns were being raised this time last year and look what happened . Actually , at our level, I would have thought that most out of contract players are quite keen to secure their future as early as possible as opposed to being the last chicken on the shelf in August
Yes it's tough. I'm sure if a good striker was available and within our budget, had no better options and was willing to sign, we'd have signed him already. Last year we held out for the mega-star Jebbison and our patience was richly rewarded when we finally got our man. There were suggestions that prem loans might well be our chosen route again this summer, which would likely mean a late rather than early signing.
When the Wobby were reporting that the signing of a left back was imminent, they also said that we would be looking to sign a young Premier League striker to boost our attack and will probably have to wait till near the end of the transfer window when clubs will have decided on who to make available.
So we haven't been pro active and will have to wait and see who is available for loan at the end of August again ?. Fantastic news !.
I suspect we have been pro-active, have identified targets, registered an interest, and been told that the parent club won't know whether their player can leave and their preferred destination until later in the window, as is usually the case for prem loans.
I think it's fairly obvious that everybody at the club are aware that we need a new striker or two. I'm also fairly confident that we will have been in touch with agents and clubs to see their position and if in fact the option is there to buy/loan. As mentioned loans are always quite difficult as clubs want to get through pre season to see if the player will benefit from a loan or if they are thinking they might use him or as back up if injuries happen. Every team would love to conclude 100% of their business by the time pre season starts but signing a player isn't as simple as that. The selling club will also want to get a replacement and the club they get him from will do likewise and so on. So yes, I would think the recruitment department have been working on this for sometime and probably have certain players in mind and would love to tie those deals up right now but it's just not that easy. If it helps, I've seen us linked with Kone from Wycombe this morning on Twitter
Even @AFWO mentioned in one of his last articles that a striker or two are a priority so I don’t think it’s fair to say we’re neglecting that area of recruitment at the moment.
