Not sure where he would fit into our team - and he certainly wouldn’t get as many starts as he will there. Plus, I’d far rather we give opportunities to Asprilla who plays a very similar position. Further our own youngsters rather than other clubs.
Maybe they’d rather pocket the cash than spend £30-40m and go down anyway. Sorts them out financially and puts them in a strong position to go again next year. Pretty depressing reflection on the health of football if so, but could be what they’re thinking.
From the BBC gossip column. Now that is a cracking name! Nottingham Forest are interested in 24-year-old Dutch striker Jizz Hornkamp, who would become the club's 13th signing of the summer if he joins from Willem II.(Athletic - subscription required)
A very ambitious suggestion I know, and I suspect he’ll join a side in Serie A but no squad number given to Ethan Ampadu. Such a good player and incredibly versatile. I’d have him as a DM (though he can also play well at RCB if we were so inclined).
He threw the sort of shade there that I thought Ex-players only throw at us. “Negotiations were minimal.” Oof.
He’d be a risk but wonder what sort of deal he was offered and what we could offer him? Would love to have him back but fear he may be a shadow of his former self. It may be a controversial opinion, but I feel we just might have let him go too soon.
Vydra a good player at Championship level, ( a goal every three games) a squad player when in the Premier League (a goal every ten games). Might be a pay as you play option. Get him signed up by Udinese to get fit in the run up to the World Cup, and then sold/loaned to us in Jan transfer window.
I'd have Vydra over Bayo any day, however, we're overstocked on the NHG players, so I just don't see this happening, unless we loan out Bayo. Vydra plus £5m still in the bank, or Bayo and lose £5m. I know which deal I'd have made. Well done Giaretta.....another classic.
It's got to be a better offer than Burnley though by the sounds of it, and we don't know what they offered. Perhaps he still thinks he should be on prem-ish wages despite his injury record ? I expect his "goals per minute" in the prem would look much better than his "goals per game" as he didn't play too many full games, but still way below his champ stats.
Wilmot is still a number of years from his prime. Cathcart is just the wrong side of his. Wilmot has not been progressing at the rate some some hoped he would, but I dont really think it is massively helpful to draw comparisons between two players at wildly different stages of their careers. I think Craig was playing for a newly promoted championship side at the same age. I dont think anyone was suggesting he was our best defender, they just thought he probably deserved better than being totally frozen out given the number of other ropey "experienced" defenders (WTE, Lazaar etc) who continued to get game time.
Lazaar hardly played (2 starts and only 225 mins) and didn’t play any minutes at CB. Wilmot got a lot of minutes in Ivic’s back 3 but just isn’t good enough at defending to play in a back 4. WTE definitely has his flaws, and is far worse in possession, but there’s a reason why he and Sierralta as a pairing presided over probably the best defensive run of form in Championship history and there’s a reason why Wilmot didn’t break into that side. I think we should have kept Wilmot around as he’d have been a good asset for us as a RCB in a back 3, but we weren’t playing that at the time and it was totally justified that WTE kept his place over him.
Im not suggesting WTE should have been dropped. I just didn't understand the manner in which he was frozen out entirely, because it was the sort of treatment that was only going to end one way in the following transfer window. Whether Xisco rated him / or whether he was suited to his system is irrelevant at this club, because we go through 2-3 coaches a year and a similar number of wholly different systems and styles. We cast aside multiple players in a similar manner with no real thought or care as to whether they could help us at some point in the future - e.g. Zincernagel, Lukebakio, Berghuis, Doucoure (almost). Deeney mentioned it in his interview - once a player is out of our plans there is almost no way back.
I imagine the powers he gained when he became The Flash give him quite the advantage when it comes to getting round the pitch.
Time is quickly running out for Scott, unless he's perfectly happy lying to the fanbase again. Which I assume he is.
