    Ray Train vs Mansfield.
Injury time equaliser on his debut at home to Mansfield.
30 yarder, bottom corner. Like an arrow.

Only "home debut" but I enjoyed the Falco hat trick v Aston Villa.

    Not a debut goal…

…but still one of my all-time favourite goals scored by Watford at home was when Dominic Foley stuck one in the top corner from 25 yards in injury time to beat Barnsley 1-0.

I've gone for yesterday's because we have been crying out for everything that goal stood for " a Watford fairytale "

I loved yesterday, but Hernandez against Villa was a top quality strike on a day when a lot of post lockdown euphoria was felt with it being the first game back with a full house. The noise when that went in was amongst the loudest goal celebrations I've heard at the Vic.

Great goal by a shocking player

Didn't Fitzgerald score on his debut? Seem to remember him scoring an absolute screamer against Norwich. He was also as crap as Foley

Foley scored a bicycle kick too if I remember once?

    And Danny Graham v Doncaster.

    He wasn’t crap .

Helguson got 2 on his 2nd debut too!

For dramatic entry say yesterday and the Cucho one.

Yes. At Loftus Rd. Still a teenager I think. I remember speaking to him afterwards before he got on the coach. He was all smiles but a bit shell shocked.

I think he also did one of the best goal celebrations after that, running away comically lifting his knees high

Did that Gravelaine (must have spelt that incorrectly!) fella score on his debut? What was his story? Never heard of him, arrived, scored a few in a short space of time, disappeared.

Helguson vs Liverpool for me in 2001. We lost the gane 3-2 but even then he looked a great buy, strong and could really bully defenders. Reminded me of Gifton NW. Richard Johnson also scored that game, which was a rare sight.

I've got to nominate a home debut goal double which was also my home Vic Road debut in a crowd of 7,500 on 16th Sept 1967 sitting in the Main Stand.

Tony Currie put Bristol Rovers to the sword 4-0 with his 2 goals in a majestic performance supplemented by Stewart Scullion and Terry Garbett - sadly all later Blades legends too! I see from the programme that Tony had nearly scored twice on his full debut at Stoke in the League Cup in a 1-0 loss, "waltzing round England keeper Gordon Banks...", at one point. Also noted was his selection for the England Youth squad. He made up for that minor failure against Stoke by also thumping a hat-trick against Peterborough a few days after the Bristol game (4-1 on 20th Sept)!

So it was great to see 17 year old Tobi Adeyemo replicating the efforts of another 17 year old debutant more than 55 years later. I hope that memory has made some of you older Orns a little dewy-eyed!

I only go to a few games but I think I may have seen one from the votes - was Henderson’s home V Preston? We lost 2-1 and he got his with a header? One of the very few times I’ve walked away happy even though we lost because I loved how we played and Boothroyd had struck a chord. Seeing Young and McNamee on the wings and Henderson up top worked (not sure King had already signed? Probably had).

He scored in the 3-2 win over Southampton in one of our six wins in the PL 1999/2000. Think David Perpertuni got one as well. EDIT: Wingo beat me too it. :p

?? We were totally outplayed by Preston that day and the omens really weren’t good. Then the 3-0 win away at Cardiff and the world was a different place….

I remember debating my optimism on a forum (was this one around then?) with a few people. Don’t know why I was so optimistic. Then seeing the score go from 3-1 down to 3-3 at Plymouth and then I guess the Cardiff game was next. I suppose I just saw something that day I liked. Turned out to be right that season (one of my all time faves - possibly the best)

Well you were right even though we were very much second best on the day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/4746379.stm
I loved that season. Zero expectation and pure attacking football with a great front line. That day in Cardiff is maybe the best alongside the GT PO final win.

Due to the terrible design of Loftus Road I couldn't actually see the goal from where I was sitting that day. Is there any footage of Smith scoring his debut goal?

There were a few optimistic signs towards the end of the previous season.

I seem to remember Graham Simpson having a massive rant after we got beaten by Leeds (might be wrong about which game it was). He was definitely under pressure after sacking Ray and replacing him with Aidy.

Remember going to the Stoke game where we secured survival. A 17 year old Al Bangura absolutely crunching through Stokes' midfield, and Ashley Young looking the best he had looked in more of a playmaker role.

Definitely enjoyed 05/06 more than any other season

I wish I had the long term memory some of u guys have, but unfortunately I haven't. Having said that out of those listed I do remember Cucho's goal was pretty spectacular so I'm going for that. Though I have to give young Tobi's goal an hounerable mention as it was a very well taken goal, if not spectacular.

Correct. AB's first game IIRC. Leeds were his previous team where he was on the coaching staff. Only a couple of vital HH goals kept us up (stoke away, barnsley away ???) and HH had to be sold in the summer so despite many new signings, there wasn't a lot of confidence about the place...

Close. ;) We beat Rotherham and Stoke (both away) which mathematically secured our survival. What happened in the following season was, total football. We were a side transformed and if it wasn't for Sheff Utd's commanding points tally due to our iffy mid season we would of gone up in second. But then again, hammering Leeds at Cardiff was totally worth the exchange.

Remember that. I was sat more or less behind it, down the far end of what was then the Upper Rous. Just after relegation I think and we laboured to that win. Lots of cracks papered over the first 14/15 games of that season.
