I guess he was in the right place at the right time for 2 of the goals and the other shows the value of having a shot and seeing what happens.
His second reminded me of Healey's goal against Southampton. Both GK mistakes, but shows what can happen when a ball is hit hard and on the ground instead of that nice height for keepers around the waist.
Bobby Charlton said his philosophy was ‘hit it early, hit it hard, get it on target then let the goalie worry about it’. He didn’t do too shabby.
Suddenly Tom is gods gift ? https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...ved-season-says-watford-boss/#comments-anchor
"“I see Incey featuring a lot more than he did last season because he has attributes I really like.”" Vomit-inducing on a number of levels.
Why? He’s certainly not a winger but he’s a good professional, has a good brain and I trust Cleverley’s judgement.
I hate Ince more than anyone in our supporter base but even I can’t criticise his effort levels in a cup game that historically, our players haven’t given two ***** about. If that translates to league games, he’ll be about the level (below Champo average) that our fans are crying out for.
Just goes to show how important it is to have a head coach that plays to his player’s strengths. An ageing Tom Ince out wide as an inverted winger in a stale 4-3-3? Sure… Ince had one of his best seasons in recent years the season before he joined us, playing centrally in an advanced midfield role for Reading. Why on earth VI thought it was a good idea to shift him out wide - isolated and expected to create things for himself - is baffling. Except this was the VI trademark: Try to play in one certain system and style even though we didn’t have the players for that. TC knows better and suddenly we have perfectly servicable Championship players like Tom Ince doing what they do best.
I think people are getting a little carried away by a fairly generous hat trick against a L2 side... Let's see how he is doing by the end of October - hopefully he proves a lot of people (me included) wrong.
It’s not too dissimilar to when Livermore scored that great double last season, every dog has his day. This is Tom Ince we’re talking about, he was never better than a decent championship player, and his best days are well behind him by now. A hatrick in the cup against very weak opposition is no more a sign that at 32 he’s suddenly turned into Jude Bellingham, than it was well also be rolling over championship teams 5-0 every week.
Maybe this is some misplaced enthusiasm after tonight's efforts, but I'd be tempted to get him involved more in the league. We're playing with strikers who don't score, and Ince certainly has a goal in him. Get him in the team, along with Baah.
Certainly wouldn't hurt to give him more time off the bench. He's played 1136 minute for us in all competitions since he's joined and scored 6 assisted 3.
It was more about his knack for getting goals whilst we're playing with strikers who don't score. He's our top scorer yet can't get in the team - our next joint top scorer has been loaned out and after that our highest scorer is our right-back. How simple would things seem if we had a centre forward who could do what they're in the team for!
Watching him just cut back and give it an easy pass last season in the league was demoralising. A crap Jurado. Maybe it was under Val, but he was grim then if I remember rightly. Maybe Clevs has energised him a bit.
0 tackles 0 interceptions, 23 passes (9th in the team) in 88 minutes today. 0 tackles 0 interceptions, 11 passes in his 55 minutes vs Blackburn. This guy is pathetic.
It's a shame as he does have some quality but the decent cameos have not materialised into starting quality.
Well Cleverley seems to think he has been the missing link ! https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24697133.inces-absence-coincided-watfords-poorer-days/
Against Blackburn he was anonymous and against Sheff Wed didn't think he did too much either but obviously doing something right. Don't know why not taking set pieces as was lethal v Leeds
Not sure I agree with TC there - as @PowerJugs said, he's been pretty anonymous in a lot of games which reflects in his stats. Doesn't take people on, doesn't shoot, doesn't assist. Is "neat and tidy" on the ball but ultimately someone in that position he occupies should be doing more offensively than that.
Would you consider moving Chak to the central role allowing Vata to play on the left wing? I feel that could cause a lot of problems for oppositions having Baah and Vata on together.
I think eventually that'll be what we move to and what suits the team best. I like what I've seen of Vata so far, but I remember some comments from TC (last month I think?") where he said they're working with Vata on his game intelligence as he often tries to do "too much" when there's better + easier options available, so I have the feeling he'll be an impact sub for a while until he develops that. I noticed when he signed, that in his last season in Belgium, Dwomoh had a few resemblances to Kone in his gameplay + stats, so if he continues to impress after a solid debut on Saturday, I wonder whether he'll be an option to move further forward if there's still reluctance to start Vata.
And we seemed to platy better against Blackburn when he went off and scored twice v Boro too I think.
He was certainly in the ear of a lot of players, Saturday by the look of it. Maybe TC likes the responsibility he's taking on field.
I think it is charts like that which explain why he has had so many clubs, scored a decent number of goals and been a menace, but ultimately never gets retained for long. Just doesn't do enough.
