Ok so just to be clear .Every team ( possibly excluding the top 3) is shyt. So losing to Cardiff doesn’t really change anything as we haven’t beaten any of the top 3 ( who may or may not also be shyt). Even if we beat one of the top 3 would we still be shyt ?

I think you’re missing the point that in RC’s current world everyone & everything is shyt so win, draw or lose will not change the fact that we are currently utter-shyt.

The point is the whole league is utter shy this year and yet we're still losing to all and sundry. And most of our wins are wholly unconvincing.

The reason for this is a our dreadful manager and his appalling decision making. For example, betting the house in Jebbison.

It worries me how many times we have to change things at half time because the initial plan was SO OBVIOUSLY wrong.

If you're gonna play wing backs then why isn't he picking one of our better attacking full backs? To pick the one full back who has 0 technical ability is just ludicrous.

    Which one ?

One can defend but not attack .

The other attack but not defend.

Cleverley doesn’t seem like to Festy .

Either Andrews or Festy does the wing back role better than Ngakia. Because they can attack. If we are playing four at the back I am totally fine with Ngakia. Because he's not asked to bomb forward as much.

    It's pretty simple

Is this the start of an Ismael type run where we end up seeing a change ?

I would argue that Ngakia is poorer in every way. Not up to this level, but a favourite of Clevs. Just like 4 or 5 others in this team.

If they still were printed on paper I would be throwing my season ticket in the bin. Despicable performance

  13. Is it getting to the point that our few wins are despite Cleverley rather than because of him?!

Our XG has been poor all season and now maybe it’s coming home to roost?

He's not a good manager. At all. The defensive performances and away form are completely inexcusable at this point, as are his baffling team selections.

We can probably afford to give him time to learn but he’s dangled the play-off carrot in front of Gino given our league position and so I think his job is in danger.

He desperately needs to get the defence organised. It’s getting worse. Every goal today was a shambles from a defensive unit perspective. All the chopping and changing really doesn’t help on that front. His faith in the ability of players to drop in and out and maintain a consistent level of performance defies logic. Maybe that works at the very top level but there’s no way our lot can pull that off.

Lost our home record to the team with no away wins

Then follow up by conceding 3 to the team without a shot on target in their previous two matches

You wonder what the prep is

Managers should learn their trade in the lower leagues, then a club likes ours snaps them up after they've learned.

Why on earth are we wasting time on this dud?

I will admit he looked totally lost on the side lines today. No shouting at the players' to motivate them, just looked like a lost little boy in a job that was too big for him. He might be a very likable bloke and I am sure he is, but when it comes to his role when the chips are down - he goes into hiding. It's not the first time I have seen it this season either.

Help him with a mentor and some crafty signings and see if he learns.

We know who is to blame but he doesn't appear to know what to do I agree.

As in that "wax on" "wax off" guy from Karate Kid? Mentors today are hard to come by. But I do agree - he needs a wise hand to help out when things are tough. Throwing mud against the wall until something sticks isn't working.

Fully backing our Tom, doing a fine job with this bunch of misfits in what is still his rookie season. Even if we tail off and finish around mid table I would want him still here come August. We have got a great bunch of young players coming through and I think we should be concentrating on them and developing them for the rest of this season ready for next season. No more of the Ince and Sissoko Statler and Waldorf tribute act in midfield please.

Agreed. The way to get a solid no-nonsense defence with the quality of player that populates most Championship squads is to decide on your preferred set up and then play the same players as often as possible. Especially the main CBs and keeper. Drill them incessantly in pre-season and between matches so it all becomes 2nd nature.
Something our Tom seems pathologically averse to.

Ismael got us in a similar position at the midway point last season, and it was only when relegation became a slight possibility that he was canned, I think he's OK for this season unless the same happens

Although he is a likeable rookie manager , he seemed to of been ******* in the wind and not getting wet ,but now the results are starting to go wrong and he doesn't seem to have a plan b,he hasn't tried playing our too duds upfront together ,I know ,but as Jimmy greaves used to say it's a funny old game
Failing that play the same formation as the opposition then you will see who is up for the individual battles and who wants to keep the shirt ,cos as it stands ,we all know we lose matches but it's the manner at which we lose that urks me ,I don't do gutless

In February we play Norwich, Sunderland, Leeds, Middlesbrough in quick succession before L*ton at home. If TC hasn’t stopped the rot before then he’ll be gone. How he’s going to do that with our spineless team I have no idea.

How many managers have we gone through that never had a "Plan B"? too many to count. It's all very well having a second plan in a game if you have the players' who are able to change the system up and instantly adapt to the role. We have a wafer thin squad for reserve which is being slowly decimated by injuries to our key players. I really think having Bayo and Jebbison as front two would be comic relief more than a viable option. Doumbia needs a chance now - Bayo has wasted at least two glaring chances to score today and looked about as capable up front as melon with no centre (sorry could not think have of a witty one-liner).

In a way TC is trying plan B, C and D by changing the team all the time, but the long ball or playing hot potato with it around the back to only reach a blunt forward line also isn't working. I cannot criticise the players' ability to try hard (most games), but I can criticise TC's lack of motivation on the touchline to even motivate the side. How about a "Bayo chase that one!" or something like that.

How good do we think our squad actually is ? Where do we think this squad should sit in the table ?
Poor decisions or not presumably that’s the only way to assess whether he’s doing a good job overall or not ? We were hot relegation favourites weren’t we ?

  34. a19tgg

We do have a relatively poor squad, but, that’s the case for a lot of the league. A lot of what we saw today was just down to poor coaching more than anything, there is no reason to be so defensively shambolic for something like the 2nd goal other than not being well coached as a team. Constantly chopping and changing the defence won’t help, but again that’s his choice as coach.

So I don’t think we can just blame the players for every single thing that goes wrong and say he’s doing a good job, when in many cases it’s the things his coaching and decisions directly affect that are going wrong.

He’d be helped massively if we at least had a decent striker, but the issue with that is his poor decisions have to a degree created the situation of us not having any.

Obviously Pozzo is unpredictable, and he’s made plenty of decisions not rooted in reality before, but I really do feel this time that he’s doesn’t see us as being in the frame for promotion, and it would just be a nice bonus if we ended up in the mix, so I don’t see his job being in any danger unless we look like getting relegated. We’re just an average team, with an average manager who makes as many mistakes himself as the players do.

It will depend on what the Pozzos expect from the second half of the season .

A gradual decline more in keeping with our squad and lack of depth and quality or to keep in around the top 10 riding our luck in games and nicking results which we are doing less and less now .

If it’s the latter then they could make a change at some point .
