Android is Java (now Kotlin) which was a subset of C++ then C which powers Linux - so I get the relation :)

Oh and Ada isn't purely Linux-based. It was written in an extended version of Pascal with bits of ASM and Algol 67, but it can be executed on Windows, Mac OS and Linux, or any platform that is compatable with the GCC suite and GNAT.

One of the few interesting things about me is I met Kenneth Williams when he opened the Queens School Easter Fayre back in the 80s!

My second ever car. Could open the drivers door with my front door key and start it with most ford keys. Got the mother of all whiplash injuries crashing it.

  5. I saw a mint mk2 Cortina on the A41 yesterday. I remember Cortinas as a mid size family car, but it looked absolutely tiny amongst the modern cars. Why have cars got so huge? A mk 1 Golf is a lot, lot smaller than a recent Polo.

Yes it’s funny how the eyes get use to seeing the lines of modern cars, when you see a 1970’s car ie Cortina, Morris 1100, Morris Marina, Austin Allego, Mini etc which would have been a good percentage of cars on the road, they look as if they were designed by a blind man, however we thought they were the bees knees in their day!

Today’s posts have reminded me of three things about me. Doubt they are of much interest.

    1. I once had a pee standing next to Henry Kelly of Going for Gold/Game for a Laugh fame.
    2. I briefly dated Sarah Beeny’s nanny.
    3. I have never learned to drive.

...and another. I used to regularly see Ernie Wise walking the streets of South Harrow when on my way to and from school, and he always said hello.

She was in an episode of Black Mirror that was pretty good (if that's your sort of thing of course) and the Clint Eastwood tsunami film Hereafter. I'm with Skylar on her hotness though.

Have never watched the Jurassic Park sequels as I figured they were basically just remakes (dinosaurs escape, cause havoc, heroes save the day).

Actually - that can be my third (not very) interesting fact, to go with my earlier two definitely true ones....

Old mini vs new mini, and it’s not like a new mini is even a big modern car either.

I saw one of those big Tesla’s on the back of a slightly older transit transporter the other day, and it looked utterly ridiculous, like a hippo riding on the back of a dog.

It's a well-known fact that humans are getting larger ever year. Ray Train, Rod Thomas, Anthony MacNamee, and Derek Payne would all have been giants just 60 years ago. The mini is simply mirroring this growth in consumer size.

That episode of Black Mirror if I remember was all about social media ratings. Everyone's life was judged by having 5 star ranking or below. Right at the end she gets the technology removed while in prison.

I really don't know why they changed it. Old mini was/is a British classic. I get the need to update and modernize, but some things should really be left alone to age with grace.

I my teenage years I was involved in a car crash and went through the windscreen. Not one to miss an opportunity my father arranged for me to be photographed and sold the pictures to be used in an 'always wear your seat belt' advert!

  19. 1. My names not Horace.
    2. I scored in the half time halfway shootout at the Vic back when that was a thing in the 80s.
    3. I also think that Bryce Dallas Howard is gorgeous.

    3 more:
    1. The first car I bought was a 1994 Mini Cooper, I called her Alice and miss her. She's still registered.
    2. I have no fillings even though for a period of 20 years plus, did not visit a dentist. - I go regularly now.
    3. I have never watched Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter or Game of Thrones and have no interest in any of that ****.

Lord of the Rings is only good if you've read the novels.
    Harry Potter (see above)
Game of Thrones was just a chance to show softcore p*rn.

Excellent I shall series link it now.

  23. I only have 2 fillings in my late 40s which I thought was decent!

Oddly enough I still have a baby tooth! Doesn't have a filling. Doesn't cause much issue and the dentist usually seems happy for it to stay for now.

I have a wisdom tooth that's still waiting to appear. See it on an x-ray, maybe it feels snug and warm in the gum.

I did have a tooth pulled a year or two ago but that was down to cracking it in half, rather than a lack of care. That's what prompted me to start going to a dentist again. I had a few bad experienes as a kid but things have moved on somewhat since then. The extraction was painless, the sounds of bonding to the jaw cracking on the other hand was not nice. Happy to have a gap where I can store peas for the time being.

Bad experiences as a kid at the dentist! When I was 4 I had to have an abcessed tooth extracted without any anaesthetic at all as there was none to be had in the wilds of Y Bannau Brycheiniog and the dentist was concerned at the spread of infection into my gum.
Fair to say, it coloured my attitude towards dentists for quite some time!

Trouble is, if you’ve read LOTR you get p155ed off at all the stuff Jackson left out of the films. Since he managed to make 3 feature length films out of The Hobbit, it’s a pity he didn’t decide to make a separate film for all 6 books in LOTR. I mean, both Potter and GOT have produced way more screen time, pale imitations as they seem to be.

I am awful at spelling (pretty bad considering what I do, thankfully the people who wrote the programming language use even stranger spelling). I am getting better though. :)

I used to live on the same street as Geri Halliwell growing up (never knew her personally I was too young to care).

When I went to my first game at the Vic in 1990 I smashed up my knee walking to the ground, tripped on the curb. Still went to the game. I think we lost actually.
