How did it get decided in the minds of chaps that women can have an interesting game of tennis, but no other sort of sport?

Tennis is an odd one. Emma Raducanu's win in this year's US open final was the one and only time in my entire life that I have ever enjoyed watching women's sport. Cue the usual perverts with 'watching women's sport' gags!

Surely it’s just a question of quality? I don’t really watch any football below championship standard, but I’m not alone in that, as the revenue the clubs in each league generate and their relative gates reflect a similar viewpoint.

Stockport v Bolton (which was on the tele a couple weeks back) was one of the best games ever

That’s as maybe, but in the main, viewing figures and attendances reduce the further you go down the male football pyramid. That’s not due to some sort of conspiracy is it, it’s because the quality gets worse and the interest drops accordingly. Why should it be sexist to treat woman’s football the same way.

I prefer women's tennis to men's, because men's is too much about power (they should have a bigger court). Women's track cycling and rowing are just as exciting as men's - nothing to choose between them.

"Multiple"as a longer and incorrect synonym for "many". "Multiple teachers" on BBC TV News just now - two-headed educators?

So what levels of male football do you regularly watch? Presumably you watch as much national league football as you do Premier League football? Who is your favourite national league team?

  12. Moose

Because it is. This is not about having to watch it. People here are annoyed it’s even on or prompted, despite the BBC’s Charter to Inform, Educate and Entertain, not always at the same time.

Enjoying sport is about having a side to follow. When my son was playing for his school I was really into the games, found them tremendously exciting. I didn’t go ‘sorry I’m not coming, I really don’t watch lower level football’.

There is plenty of skill in women’s sports and tennis shows that we have the potential to get steamed up about it and enjoy it.

Lol at equating watching your own son as having any relevance to the standard on show.

Watching Watford takes up most of my footie watching time and that wouldn’t change if we were in the National league.

But I generally wouldn’t watch Palace v Burnley out of choice. I’d rather stick my bolloks in an escalator. Don’t care, that’s the problem.

Lots of people have daughters too and they can get just as passionate about the things they do. Plenty of fellas into the women’s game through this route.

I’m merely saying people are increasingly interested in it. Women’s sport may never be as popular as male sport, but until it’s promoted we won’t know and that’s not the only worthwhile measure.

I think a lot of it has to do with opportunity. Billie Jean King fought hard for equal status in tennis decades ago, so modern players have had a path to professionalism, better facilities, coaching etc.
I'm not a tennis fan either, but watched the end of the US open final and there was no doubting the skill and power of both players. It was elite sport with all the drama you could want.
Women's football might take a generation before the depth of talent is there across the leagues. It's not balanced right now, especially at international level. England beating Latvia 20-0 with 63 shots at goal isn't sport or entertainment.

    This.

Womens tennis does have a lot of hugely one sided matches which are dire to watch, I'd argue more than the mens. The Williams sisters didn't help the quality of women's tennis competition although they did get the prize money ramped up which you would have lthough may have helped bring on another generation.

On your last legs? Nasty cough that won't go away?

Why not sign up for a Crems4U cheap cremation like old Bill here? (cut to old, yet handsome, northern man with white beard and comfy jumper talking to young pretty, yet straightlaced, woman)

"Ah don't like no fuss me, ah'm on me way out duck and when ah pop off....."

Young woman interrupts "Ooooh don't talk like that Dad!"

"No, no loooov, ah'm off te meet me maker and when I go, I just want yer to pop me corpse in this handy zipped body bag, stick on the no fuss pre-printed label from Crems4U and prop me cadaver up against the blue top bin on any Wednesday and Crems4U will do the rest!"

Woman: "Oooh Dad! Does that mean it'll be nice and cheap for us loved ones and no fuss for us either?"

"Ay loooov! Leaving you free to organise your own celebration of my life as you see fit. Or not if you prefer......"

Perfume adverts. Overpriced garbage that comes out at this time of year accompanied by some of the most fatuous, empty headed advertising you will be ever unfortunate to witness. You can only love your partner if you buy some of this ridiculous nonsense with equally nonsensical names. No doubt the sheep fall for it in their droves.

The last bottle of aftershave I had given to me was in the 80s. It was a Paco Rabane (sp?) and I found it a few years ago at the back of the bathroom cabinet, cap rusted on and still 9/10ths full. Straight in the bin! Come to think of it I haven't used aftershave since the 80s!

Veneers, the absolute height of laziness.

Imagine willingly having your perfectly healthy teeth filed down into stumps and having dentures stuck on them, when you could achieve the same results with your own teeth by getting braces/Invisalign, whitening and composite bonding.

Of course the only downside being is that could take a year or more,

A year? sod that! I’ll just get my teeth filed down into pegs instead!

The thought process blows my mind. I mean imagine being in your early twenties and willingly committing to false teeth for the rest of your life, when you could actually avoid it by just having a little bit of patience?

And that’s not even touching on the fact that some of them look utterly ridiculous.

Unfortunately so, it’s common for people to go to Turkey for, it where it’s cheaper, although no cheaper than getting the orthodontic work done here in the U.K. with your natural teeth, then of course in 10 years time when they need replacing you’re also up the creek.

This is what they do to your perfectly healthy teeth before hand:

    F0DA2479-BFFF-4C54-A75D-518195845885.jpeg

As I mentioned, anything but the most ridiculous cartoon character/Lego veneers is possible with your own teeth, it just requires a bit of patience, unfortunately so many people just aren’t willing to wait for the results and would rather willingly commit to false teeth for the rest of their lives instead for instant results.

(I’m not a dentist or anything by the way, I’m just seeing it more and more and I find the mindset quite depressing)
