When I was at TfL, they were getting loads of awkward FOIs that were taking up loads of staff time in both Customer Services and different parts of the business. Turned out someone in Customer Services was submitting most of them as he knew the stuff that was difficult to find out and what FOIs couldn't be rejected. He left shortly after being discovered.

To be fair in my current job my impression of TfL is it's a miracle if they can get a working phone line they can be contacted on, let alone respond to something like an FOI request.

The point you make in your first paragraph is valid but doesn’t highlight the fact that this pressure to stay “relevant” through your looks is one that male musicians don’t face in the same way. Taylor Swift talks about this, and the continual casual misogyny she faces as a female musician, very eloquently in her Miss Americana documentary.

You're right and I really should have highlighted that. But, TBF, I feel it's far more complex than that as I don't recall Justin Bieber shilling botox-like fillers to his target market (although I maybe wrong about this as the precision of targetted marketing by SM is chilling: The Great Hack threw out the stat that 'they' worked on around 7000 (seven thousand) data points to identify targets for their advertising).

Incidently Taylor Swift appeared in something I watched on the influencer 'movement' and how it works - she's a great exponent of rewarding 'randomly chosen' members of her SM following gift boxes - which she, of course, prepares and fully details on her youtube channel to exclusively to subscribers...

  5. It’s terribly sad that there is such pressure on women in high profile entertainment roles.

There's some insane double standards that go on too.

Billie Eilish recently got slated for a video she made aged 14 where she mouthed along to a rap track by Tyler the Creator that contained a racist term.

There was almost no comment about the track itself or the rapper who wrote it, who is still knocking out records.

At the risk of sounding old (which I am) certain genres get a free pass when it comes to sexism and misogyny. No way would a guitar band from the UK get away with singing the usual "bitches want me" crap without outrage.

How about SEJ’s “The Bitch Is Back” ? :D

  9. Yes but there’s a big difference between applying a bit of foundation and blusher and having your hair done a couple of decades ago to today where surgery and Botox seems to be the norm.

What is that horrible phrase, I can’t remember who coined it, but it’s along the lines of when woman age they either look old or weird.

His first book was also crap, despite being a number 1 seller for what feels like most of the last year.

It’s nearly the time of year to start cranking up the hate on Michael Buble and other purveyors of effing atrocious swing music.

Do you think you could ever get tired of punching Michael Buble?

    I don't think I could.

I always think of him as Michael Bubble. That saves the broken hand.

A lot of drivel on the radio this morning 'analysing' the lyrics of Adele's new single.

I woke up to it this morning, my wife was so giddy with excitement over her new single. Adele has an incredible voice to be fair.

I really like this collaboration she did with Burt Bacharach a few years ago.

I have no problem with Adele, but to suggest the words of her song would help someone live their life was ridiculous.

The phrases ‘Everything happens for a reason’ and ‘what is meant for you won’t pass you by’ usually spouted by Karen types to other Karen types on social media, when their boyfriend dumps them or something like that.

Someone I know has been dumped by her husband for a younger version. She is utterly relentless on Facebook in telling everyone, very regularly, that she is very, VERY happy. Photo after photo of carefully placed glasses of prosecco, laughter with friends and kids.

There is nothing more tragic than that, if you were truly enjoying yourself and ‘living your best life’ you’d have neither the time nor the inclination to constantly plaster it all over social media.

It screams "I'm unhappy and not coping" in ten foot high neon letters.

Then there's the cryptic, attention seeking posts like "such a bad day, so happy I have great friends to support me", usually with a few 'in the know' friends rushing to post comments to show they know what's happened and are therefore bestest friends, like "I know, you're so strong hun".

The most extreme example of this can be found in the documentary “American Murder: The Family Next Door”. An excellent, if heartbreaking, documentary which highlights the disconnect between the image people present of their lives on social media and the reality.
