Based on their last two bounce-back seasons in the Championship when they didn't have all that much money, they could easily set a record points total for that division, like Chelski, Man City and Liverpool have done in recent seasons or Celtic did when Martin O'Neill joined, probably at least 110 points.

I think that is the thing that makes it all so unpalatable for me. I think, being as objective as possible, if the Saudis tried to buy us there would obviously be fans happy about it, but there would also be some protests against it. The Geordies were actually protesting about the takeover not being allowed to go ahead. It’s the revelling in it that’s the issue for me. Football really isn’t that important.

It’s also quite telling that he says “I understood Norwich being careful the last time they were with us.”

What does he mean us? He commentates on PL games abroad, he has nothing to do with the PL, but it shows his ignorant attitude that he genuinely believes it’s us and them, and the rest of the football pyramid is an irrelevance.

It had been a while since we were such hot favourites for promotion (certainly while I was in the country, I was living in China when we went up the last time), I suspect we had more TV games than most of our Championship seasons, but I couldn't tell you exactly!

 

Interesting to see how Palace get on tonight, given many considered them to be relegation candidates pre-season - they've not had a good start to this season but they've also had a very tough start and actually got some unexpected results (four points against West Ham and Spurs to counter the points they dropped in easier fixtures against Brentford and Brighton). If they'd had our fixtures and vice versa I daresay they'd be in a similar position to Brentford and we would be in the bottom 3.

If they get a win or maybe even a draw, we can pretty much count them out already, a narrow but battling defeat would make them outsiders and a defeat by 2+ goals would put them in the mix.

 

They have moved Brighton's home game on boxing Day against Brentford to 8PM for TV. Great idea when most use public transport to get there

Going well for them so far. Thought they'd struggle this year but doing ok Wonder if Olise and Gallagher were ever on our list?

 

Olise was supposedly on our list, but supposedly we weren't able or willing to pay his (still low) release clause and had a lower bid rejected. It's irrelevant though as he still would have joined Palace instead of us anyway.

 

Looking like we will need 6 points from the next two. I'd hoped Palace would be dragged back in but it's not looking likely.
