They might have played well this season but actually lost a lost of points late on.

Really think Newcastle could go down.

Depends if Howe gets a say in transfers, he signed a lot of overpriced crap for Bournemouth, it’s partly why he left as the owner had enough and wanted control of transfers back.

Even if they have a lot of money to spend in January there is absolutely no guarantee he will spend it well at all.

He spent plenty at Bournemouth and still took them down.

They have cash but it’s doubtful they have the know how to spend it properly

Apparently no team has ever stayed up after failing to win any of their first 14 games.

Newcastle have had it. Tyneside isn't the most appealing place at the best of times. I don't think any top player is going to fancy swapping Champions League football for a Premier League relegation battle that will likely be futile anyway. Norwich have improved since we beat them ironically enough but still won't have enough to stay up. Burnley will get out of it. That leaves us, Southampton and, although they've started well enough for a promoted side, Brentford. Second half of the season they will falter

IMO, everyone below Brentford (11th) is in the mix.

I would exclude Everton from that, not because they are a big club, but because if the sh1t hits the fan then Rafa will change tactics to damage limitation and get them out of it. Perhaps if the owners panicked and sacked Rafa then maybe Everton too but not likely.

Have Norwich improved? I thought they were awful last night (Pukki's goal aside), given they were handed a man advantage for 81 minutes. It looked like they vaguely knew what they were supposed to do to make the most of it but were incapable of doing so.

Didn't see to much tbf but have to agree I'm not seeing a great improvement in Norwich. You'd definitely expect 3 points playing 10 men for 80 minutes. Still not sure about the chance at the death! Shoot or lay it off to Pukki? Personally would of taken it on.

To be fair to Norwich, they are now 4 unbeaten with 2 wins and 2 draws, playing against 10 men not withstanding. 8 points from 12 is a good return. I suspect Smith’s first duty was to make them less leaky and harder to beat - he’s done that so far even if they still don’t look great.

I still believe they will go down and probably return to their old ways - but at least they’ve done something which I’m sure is what their fans wanted.

What plays into our hands is our runs of fixtures after these next 2 - Leeds, Newcastle and Norwich have very tough festive fixtures indeed.

Give Gino the amount Newcastle will get in January and sit back and watch him spend it productively and address the correct areas.

So, a draw for Burnley, not ideal away at a good team, they are within striking distance now with City for us, and a 6 pointer against Newcastle for them...
Still, we'll get out of this tricky period at the very least level on points with safety, I guess I'd have taken that when Don Claudio came in and this horrible run started

Do you feel Everton are part of this now? Awful run of form, but yes they have played some top sides (a bit like we have). They didn't turn up last night in their biggest game of the season
and Rafa must be feeling the heat now.

Hopefully Brentford get a walloped tonight they are only a few points above us and have been struggling a bit recently.

VAR goes against Man U at Old Trafford...

Well that means they'll get a penalty or something later on.

Arsenal profiting off an injured opponent to score yet again.

It can't be disallowed though obviously.

Another dodgy goal for the most honest team in the Premier League.

In fairness, that was entirely De Gea trying to use the classic modern goalie tactic of cancelling a play by noping out of it, utterly regardless of whether or not any kind of foul was actually committed - in this case, not only was he not in any way injured or affected, but it wasn't even an Arsenal player that supposedly caused it - absolutely right it stood. Atkinson shouldn't have even tried to blow as halfheartedly as he did. De Gea can go fucccckkkk himself - hilarious.

Sounds like De Gea was down when Arsenal score but because there was no foul (this time) and the ref didn't blow up it had to stand.

Mendy did it a couple of times last night. There was one just before the medical emergency where he had the ball in his hands and just sat down on the floor and put the ball down. I couldn’t understand why the ref didn’t tell Mendy to kick it out and wave play on. Joshua King was nearby and I’d have loved for him to alive enough to poke the ball into the net.

You mean the ref that did not make Chelsea players leave the pitch after receiving treatment and stopped play for a Chelsea player who was off the pitch get treatment?

His ankle injury cleared up pretty quickly too.

Mind you they had a few who went down , got treatment then seemed ok very quickly.

About as much chance of that being allowed to stand as there was of Ben Foster catching Ziyech’s effort last night - as some people have bizarrely convinced themselves would have been nothing less than routine.

  31. UEA_Hornet

Obviously wouldn’t have worked once the ref agreed to stop play to let the Chelsea physios on but there were a couple of seconds where there wouldn’t have been any grounds to disallow a goal other than making something up. Mendy just put the ball down. That’s amateur stuff.
