When they had that start of 2 points from 17 games I was actually thinking "well it's not over yet, they've been in a similar situation before"!

 

The most likely teams to finish below us if we dont go down are Norwich, Burnley and Brentford. It'd take incompetence on an industrial scale for Newcastle to go down. Unlikely, but hilariously not impossible. Can't see Villa or Palace in the bottom 3. Leeds will stay up if Bamford returns and scores goals or if they buy a goalscorer. If not they are in trouble. Southampton are the other team that could find the premier league pole a little too greasy this season. Brighton will almost certainly be ok. We don't need to worry about other teams, just need to focus on winning 7 more games. 7 more wins and we're safe.

 

And the only win Derby got on their way to 11 pts, was against Newcastle. The return fixture was a draw so over a third of Derby's points came from Newcastle.

 

Now that you've said this we're absolutely guaranteed to lose; probably by 2-0.

As @SkylaRose posited in a previous post a few (and growing number) of the Geordies are certain that they're going to find it impossible to get anything 'decent' in the next window as no-one wants to join a sinking ship and for the majority of the world living in the 'Toon' is not that appealing.

 

£10m signing bonus, £500k a week and a £15m relegation release clause fee in the contract and they'll get people...great deal for the player...mega mega mega crap deal for the club, but the desperation means the club has no leverage in January. Most players in Europe will say Eddie who? - so that's not really a draw for players. All they can do is splash the cash.

It's gonna be fun to watch but its hard to imagine there aren't 5 suitable players out there that would sign for a team with that much money. I think Howe will target some of his former players and also loans for top players not getting game time.

 

We are on same points as Brentford but commentators waxing lyrical about how well Brentford are doing whereas Watford appear to have played a poorly performing Villa, Norwich, Everton and Manchester United
