So what is the best result today between NUFC and brave brave Brentford ?
NUFC 5 pts below us but about to spend gazillions in January and Brentford 2 points above and their bubble having been burst ?
0-0 draw with multiple red cards and fatalities ?

Depending on how we do, if we win it really doesn't matter but in that actual case a Brentford loss would be sweet. If we draw, either win or a draw is not too bad. If we lose, then certainly a draw between them would be the better result for us.

We're going down, I'd like to drag Newcastle and Brentford down with us but as Norwich are also gash that won't be happening. I'd prefer a Newcastle win today, it would be hilarious to see them relegated after the takeover but I just don't see it. Seeing Thomas Frank in front of the cameras after Brentford are relegated would be lovely though. No doubt it'll be about how Brentford were unlucky, they play the best football in the league and how they should be playing European football.

I really don’t get the hatred for Brentford. It seems it’s been transferred from the previous hatred for Bournemouth, but at least we had a direct rivalry with them over a few seasons. Is it because people don’t like them being seen as the plucky little club succeeding against the odds when they wish it was Watford who were seen like that? I’d much rather the biggest possible clubs were relegated.

I don't think the 'hatred' or, indeed, slightly negative feeling, for them is at anything like the same level as Muff, frankly, but regardless, you can't have failed to notice how annoying Brentford's fans and head coach have been in recent times - making outlandish, arrogant claims that genuinely don't reflect reality and, in the case of the head coach, just constantly being a bit of a bitter ****. That's what people are reacting to and expressing dislike for - it isn't rocket science in this case.

Rodgers to United at 17.00? Chelsea are great though, It would be fantastic if we were the side that got Ole the sack.

Chelsea seem to be comfortably the better side at Leicester, underlining the task we have in the next four games if it wasn't already apparent.

Leicester cannot defend set plays - shame we cannot take them !

I really don’t understand why commentators and pundits keep saying “someone is going to get injured one day” in relation to the offside flag going up after the move has concluded.

It’s become a bit of cliche for them to constantly repeat it, but so bloody what? We’re talking about a few seconds in a 90 minute game, players can get injured at any point, so perhaps they shouldn’t play at all. And if they did get injured and it was onside, what would be the difference? It’s all part of the game.

It’s totally flawed logic, we should prevent totally legitimate goals happening so that we can instead prevent mythical injuries that might happen within a 2 second window.

So...a goal difference-boosting win for us, a draw in a very winnable game for Burnley, and Newcastle and Brentford both dropping points against each other, a very satisfactory weekend! Yeah, Norwich won, but I suppose you can't have everything, and I still maintain that if we are worried about them we are in trouble

Shouldn't we be above Aston Villa in the table given we beat them on the opening day?

The Norwich win is probably a good thing, logic says it’s just the new manager bounce, it will probably end up being a pointless 3 points for them but keeps us closer to Southampton.

Either Liverpool are that good, or Arsenal's poor performance against us carried over the IB. Dismal display. Best from Arsenal was Arteta's "fight" with Klopp.

The best PL striker in history for me and certainly enjoyed taking us on Sergio 'Kun' Aguero has announced his retirement from football. It's quite possible he has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which has resulted in several footballing deaths.

Fabulous striker and in his earlier years a tremendous dribbler at Independiente breaking Diego Maradona's appearance by featuring for El Roja aged fifteen. He impressed for Argentina u20 winning the titles in 2005 and 2007 the first in association with Lionel Messi the second with Angel di Maria. Injuries hampered his club and international career as did some unremarkable coaches including for a time his father-in-law Maradona. He only really flourished under the late Alex Sabella and latterly under Lionel Scaloni although he only played a very very small part in the team securing the Copa America.

Of course he will be remembered for years to come for that goal. Not one of my favourites considering who it was scored for but he has been one of my favourite players in the last decade and a bit. I'm sure Independiente will be gutted not to see one of their favourite sons return to don the red one last time but health trumps everything.

Somehow always somewhat underrated amongst Prem fans in this country despite all his goalscoring and trophy accomplishments over a decade playing here. I think he has an argument for the best career of a foreign import here ever, but that's for another day.

Newcastle fans got their first glimpse of Eddie Howe football.

Alan Shearer said they were too open.

Well that is what Howe’s teams are like .

I thought they were quite good against us, comfortably the better side for much of the game especially the first half and defended well, but they don’t attack with much consistency - they tend to start really brightly before running out of steam. And they seem to be hopeless against the top sides - a far cry from the classic Wenger teams, against whom only Fergie’s Man U comfortably got the better of on occasion.

Yep, Bournemouth conceded over 60 goals in each of their PL seasons yet Shearer seems surprised that Newcastle were so open at the back. I'll let him off though, it's not like his job has involved analysing PL teams for the last decade.

    Oh wait...

The players like Pogba will get off scot free again. Excused for their lack of effort, application and pride. As Chappers remarked on MOTD even if you disliked the manager then just for personal pride you would still go out and give the best account of yourself. Zidane rumoured to replace Ole. Another overrated manager, dubious tactician and whose ego may be sufficient to match those inside the dressing room. May get Pogba and his overinflated sense of himself to simmer down as well.

Players are being viewed more like machines than human beings when it comes to the amount of games they are expected to play, Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Maheta Molango says.

With league and cup games, many clubs can often have three games a week.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City played 61 games in all competitions last season.

"This is not a shoe factory," Molango told Football Focus.

"You're talking about human beings and sometimes I get the feeling that we are moving in the direction that footballers are just machines and they are not."

Rather insulting to those people who work in the developing world for a pittance and very long hours. No sense of awareness at all from Molango. The new Gordon Taylor. Perhaps players ought to ask their clubs from traipsing around the world on tours, more CL games than you can shake a stick at although that might mean they would have to do with less money in their already obscene pay packets.

You will need to find thousands of vomit bags for the plastics. Bruce is far beneath the level they expect for such a magisterial, magnificent, monumental, mindbending corporation.

Yet he has achieved more as a manager than Ole who was a flop at Cardiff. Was an utterly bizarre appointment to start with imo, perhaps i was missing something?

I don’t really think anyone dislikes Brentford as a club. I can see why people dislike their manager though. He is a whinging little ***** and has a demeanour that rubs people up the wrong way.
Also I think Brentford fans hate us way more than anyone cares about them.

Emma Saunders interviewing Gary Neville about the sacking on SSN. She didn’t say the word Watford once. Even Neville did.

She’s forgotten where’s she’s come from already. Also chucked in a ‘fink’. Lol.
