As I said hard to back against Sinner but if Draper wins then Medivet becomes the favourite as he's been there, done it.
Very few win their first major tournament at the first attempt.

The crowd are happy as Fritz wins the tie break and reaches his first ever Grand Slam semi final.

    Another missed chance for Zverev.

    Oh dear!
    Fritz and Tiafoe win.
    Poor Dimitrov forced to retire.

All American semi final then .

Will the crowd favour one over the other ?

    Wonderful to see Zverev lose!

A first American finalist since Roddick now guaranteed.

Hard to see Sabalenka not winning the ladies.

    Well done to Jess P.

I tipped her as an outside chance of winning Wimbledon, but she went out early doh. Maybe, just maybe, I was one slam too early (although Sabalenka remains hot favourite here).

A tournament too far for many, namely ND and Carlito.
So soon after the Olympics on THE most testing surface of clay, injuries everywhere.
One would have to have a shriveled pea for a heart not to feel sorry for Alex Demon.

A player who has the game of a group 3 county week player but the heart of a lion, the speed of a Ferrari and the endurance of Paula Radcliffe.
To be so clearly restricted by the hip injury reduced him to serving and volleying on numerous occasions. 'Into the valley of death...'

Good for Pegula, about time her solid all round game paid dividends.

Now into the final after a come back win .

Was a set and break down .

    Will play Sabalenka.

Saba would be a deserved winner and will be hot favourite, but lovely to see Pegula finally get her rewards at a slam. It’s been a long time coming.

Draper struggling on his serve for now .

Finally his hideous kit catches up with him.
    Vomit everywhere.
Not least here due to Overrated's constant fawning and genuflecting.
Laura Robson head and shoulders above both Overrated and Henman at present.
Will Draper vomit over Trottman for his increasingly banal witterings?!
Hannah Klugman lost first round juniors. Had a relatively poor year.
    Stojanovic however in the final.
    Robertson lost in semis.

Feels a bit like Murray early in his career maybe ?

Not quite got the fitness yet potentially.

Nervous energy being in that new and emotional/exciting match.

Also worth noting that Murray was 17 when he had physical issues.

    Draper is 22.

An enjoyable first two sets, but ultimately Sinner showed why he’s world number one and Jack is seeded 25. Lots to be pleased about this fortnight, but equally hopefully lots to learn on how to keep improving.

A very decent second semi-final afterwards, went all the way to five sets, and (as we knew anyway), a first American man in a slam final since way back in 2009 when Roddick lost in London.

In Fritz and Pegula, the Americans have two decent and generally consistent players, but until this week neither had ever gone further than the quarters in any grand slam. Good things come to those who wait eh!

    Indeed.

She may win the title but I'm not certain the biomechanist has solved Sabalenka's serve.

Still has the kink at the top of the swing.

Too much going on and too much can go wrong.

Well done. A deserved winner after all her near misses. Two sets of very good quality by I think players, with lots of momentum shifts. Pity it didn’t go to a decider.

Saba being Saba, she did her best to make things very difficult for herself from a winning position, but she’s the best hard court player in the game and a deserved champion of New York.

First woman since Kerber in 2016 to win both the first and last slams of the year. Great effort, and she didn’t play in one of the others either, plus lost when clearly struggling with illness in Paris. I put her above Iga now as the best woman player on the circuit, although I guess the counter argument is Swietek has won slams on two different surfaces.

AS has, unlike some, improved her game.
She's much more comfortable transitioning and in her touch and control at the net,not just looking for the drive volley finish.

She has added a decent slice backhand and therefore drop shot and much more spin on her forehand.

I'm not convinced the biomechanist has solved the technical issue. However she appears to think so and is certainly not as vulnerable. That's all that matters!

    Well done to her.

Saba’s issues have always been as much mental as technical, although yes it’s true her serve totally deserted her for a while. She’s been guilty of some awful chokes, and even last night she wobbled badly when ahead in the second set and collapsed to be 4-5 down with Pegula serving to level the match. But she showed great character to break back and eventually claim the prize.

For a person who lost her Dad (and threw herself more into tennis as a release), her ex partner to suicide shortly after they split, and was also been banned from competing for a while because of politics, to win three slams in two years (and it should really have been more) is a lovely story. She will be a worthy champion of New York.

I really can’t warm to Sinner at all. He’s not a pleasing player to watch.

God forbid he ever plays mixed doubles with the Wimbledon ladies champion.

Sinner too good,Fritz too one dimensional and although he's improved it, still doesn't move well enough against the top guys.

Years ago,in the '80s some poor girl was 6-1 5-0 40-15 up in the final round of qualies at Flushing.

    She lost.

I lost in the nationals at Telford once from 4-1 40-15 up in the third. Took me about a year to get over it. If I was 4-1 up I had flashbacks!

    Baggage.

I watched parts of a few of her matches in Tunisia.

She's carried on her form from Wimbledon and another example of a qualifier winning a tournament.

Having said that the Slovakian lady looked completely gone after about four games, mentally and physically.
