This really isn't anything to be sniffed at.

He could turn out to be a flop, but that scoring record of 7 goals in 892 minutes (1 per 127 mins) in the Jupiler Pro league is actually pretty good, especially considering Mouscron were lower-mid table. None were penalties either.

For comparison, Samatta, who Villa paid about £10mil for to play in the PL, had scored 7 goals in 1569 minutes for a slightly better side (1 goal per 224 mins).

Wesley, who Villa paid £20mil for, scored 10 goals in 2254 mins for the 2nd best team in the league (1 goal per 225 mins).

So Perica scored basically 1 gpg better than those two in a worse team - with both those two okay, albeit not great, in the PL. So if Perica can adapt to English football, which one would hope given his stint in Chelsea's academy, then he could potentially be a very good goalscorer in the Champ.

 

Belgian goals are like Scottish goals. You have to divide by 83. Samatta and Wesley have turned out to be utter **** in the Prem.

Also, Wesley had scored 5 goals from 1790 minutes for Villa before he got injured, all from open play - i.e. 1 goal per 4 games. Not fantastic, but not terrible enough that labelling him "utter ****" is anything other than unfair (unless the **** actually stands for "meh").

As a comparison, Troy's scoring record from open play was 1 gpg worse than Wesley's (1 per 5), so if we were to use Troy as the benchmark of what an "utter s***" PL centre forward is, then Wesley was a bit better than that.

Wesley and Perica also both still have time on their side and can still improve (Wesley is 23, and Perica only turned 25 last month).

Again, I'll add that Perica's scoring record was also despite playing for a worse team than Wesley's - more like a Kilmarnock than a Rangers, to use your Scottish comparison.

He has every chance of being better than Troy will be/would have been for us in the Champ again, and that has to be worth something, especially as you say given that he won't be costing us much.

With you a bit here, if we end up with a few cast offs that did what Abdi, Vydra, Angella, Ekstrand, Ighalo, Forestieri, Anya etc... did then I will be very happy, we got promoted with cast offs. Also with you that there would be a good mix of Neuton, Steve Leo Beleck (no offence), Acuna, Iriney, Geijo etc... to contend with along the way.

I am sure if we analysed the history of the first batch I mentioned before they came we would have thought they were sh1t as well. This guys seems a reasonable option, different to what we have regardless of who stays or goes. Do like the sound of this Troost Ekong fellow if we could make that happen as well please. Gino, ask Dad for a loan until payday.
