Reports from the training ground, that since yesterday, pieces of turf delivered for the new pitch, have strange and unusual ' munch' marks appearing on them.

The source has not yet been discovered , but the club are currently looking into it .

Glad to see that WD Sport agrees with my original assessment of Berghuis when I said that he has a very slender build, and if he wants to make it in the Premier League then he will have to hit the gym and build his strength.

Maybe a bit early to be saying this but was the surrounding optimism from most a little naive? Not sure that's the correct word but my minds gone blank.

 

I am sure he'll be alright, but I can't see what he offers which is particularly exciting. It's not time to write him off yet, by al ong chalk.

I think he'd thrive under a better coach than Quique.

 

He needs a few games with the U21's.

 

If he's not ready for first team football yet, why's he not playing for the U21s?

 

Don't think he's had time to show what he can do to be honest.

From what have I seen, he doesn't look particularly quick or strong. Doesn't seem to have great vision or quick feet or the ability to beat a man. Only real positive I've seen is his ability to cross a decent ball.

What is particularly annoying is his work rate. He loses the ball more than once every time he comes on and doesn't track back at all, very frustrating.

In his defence, he needs a whole 90 or at least a start so we can see what he can do.

 

Just re-watched the highlights video on the first post of this thread. The things I noticed are that he seemed to be playing in a side that passed the ball on the floor, committed lots of people forward (particularly in quick breaks) and had a lot more time on the ball. He can definitely play a lovely through ball when he's got time and space and someone making a run. The standard of Dutch football isn't particularly high at the moment but he does look quite a tidy player.

Unfortunately, unless we change from our direct style I don't think we'll see much of those kind of skills. We have very little movement up front and seem to either smash it long to Deeney hoping he flicks it on to Ighalo or get the "wingers" to hold the ball up long enough for a full back to eventually arrive and cross the ball into a crowded box.

Good question. Can't you only field three over-21s? Berghuis and Ibarbo are dying for the game time, surely?

Naive, immature and quite frankly embarrassing. That's how I thought the reaction to most signings was this summer, the gloating of 'Bournemouth signed Gradel but we've got Berghuis!1!1!!!' despite knowing nothing about the player pissed me off.

He's definitely shown one or two good things. As well as some decent crossing, there was the game a short while back (v Swansea?) where he was in the corner up the Vic end surrounded by four defenders and somehow popped the ball out of the scrum into space for one of ours to run on to. Very nice skill.

 

It's clear to see why he's struggling to settle in if we're playing rugby.

 

Shall we keep him now orrrrrrr...?
