You are right of course thinking that in the future Watford might be in the lower leagues. Vicarage Rd in its current state would definitely be one of the best 3rd/4th division grounds.

I went to Delias Restaurant at CR on Saturday. 100% would recommend, high end white table cloth, sommelier affair. Seemed almost full despite covid. They also have a diner/steak house.
I think you could do something similar at vicarage road or would hope at a new stadium.

History is great and we all have fond memories of the Vic but but no point in dwelling on the past, need to look forward or you won't progress. Do you have a black and white TV? My guess is no you don't. TV's progressed much like everything else but if you don't go with the progression you get left behind. It doesn't need to be a soulless bowl and the newer ones being built are not like that. Why we will be in the lower leagues when Gino sells up I'm not sure. Maybe a brand new ground with all the extra's that brings will help us find other investors. We've only been in League one for two seasons since 1979, most of which was without Pozzo. Not sure how a new stadium could rip the heart of the club. I think it's more likely we end up as a Championship club with the current facilities than if we built a new stadium with all the income that would bring. I like The Vic and wouldn't be devastated if we stayed but to progress I think we need to move on

Pizzeria del Pozzo seems the obvious choice

Good post, like you I think pretty much the same, if we move then as long as we don't move to an identikit stadium. I haven't voted in the poll in this thread because I'm neither for nor against the idea. We can't expand if we stay and as long as any move and development doesn't cost us our future then a move may be a good idea. The old golf club is ideally located for it though.

I’m not local so don’t know the area that well. If the Bushey deal is 100% dead in the water, are there many / any other possible locations? (Apologies if I’ve missed them in the thread previously)

A better analogy would be; Would you sell your fully paid for house to rent a new one? It would appear, from the available documentation, that if the club moves to Bushey they’d be tenants, not owners.

'progress' to what exactly? some kind of non existant premier league Narnia? I dont want 'investors' attracted by our assets anywhere near Watford. When the Pozzo pantomime is over as long as we still have our badge and the vic, I'm happy. In my view we are more likely to hold our own as a community club playing at the vic than as some deluded investor's white elephant with the tumbleweed blowing around a two thirds empty stadium.

It's incredible how entitled some fans get after a few years of PL football. The vic is the greatest building in Hertfordshire.

They ruined Vicarage Road when they got rid of the Shrodells stand. The roof on the Vicarage Road end was the final straw.

I hear that the owners of Bushey Hall are likely to challenge the zoning. It sounds like its days as an 18 hole golf course have ended permanently. By chance last week i ended up walking over it one evening. It really is a lovely spot once you break out of the nature reserve and Icedale wood.

I was looking at a satellite view of the stadium today and it looks like the allotments have all gone and the area has been levelled out. Are they going to build there or make a car park etc. Does the club own any land around there for future development if needed?

It’s hospital land and they’re developing it.

The club do not own that land. The alleyway up to the steps to the stadium has been retained and resurfaced (and shifted over slightly). It was closed off when I was at the game the other day but will be open soon. Is a useful way to get to games when I don't want to fight through Occupation Rd.

The allotments is going to become housing. 192 units https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/n...92-home-development-watford-riverwell-launch/

The corner of the allotments nearest the alleyway that joins Cardiff Road to the back of the Rookery near the 1881 club is going to become a 1,200 space multi storey car park for the hospital. I think the club also get 70 reserved spaces on a floor to replace the executive car park on the opposite side on Occupation Road.

Then the current hospital surface car park will close and used for the new hospital block. Presumably the hospital staff car park on the opposite which has the Covid testing station will be redeveloped too.

I *think* this was the land ear-marked for the planned Gooner Filth new stadium:

Similarly, I don't care about the name 'Occupation Road', but think that renaming it 'Yellow Brick Road' makes it seem like our stadium is situated in a children's theme park. Surprised Elton is enough of a fan of this to go ahead, given, for example, his comments on Crocodile Rock - unless they've just launched into the Luther Blissett approach to PR again, that is, of course.

Worth pointing out the ‘they’ in this instance is the local council. Pretty sure it’s a public highway.

Agreed, the song it's based on is about turning his back on the fame and fortune. And about Munchkin land.

    Great song though.
