Stiff Little Fingers, who on the other hand weren’t afraid of a rebellious song, also recorded their own ‘Bloody Sunday’ as an early b side. Strangely that was about Sunday being boring and not about ‘Bloody Sunday’.

Sticking with SLF, a couple of albums later they were signed to Chrysalis and had the luxury of an in-house artist to help with art work. Given the brief ‘Go for it’ he produced this as a first effort with the disclaimer he could do something better. The band were thrilled and 40 years later it’s still being tattooed onto ageing punks and new fans alike.

The album’s classic cut is ‘Piccadilly Circus’ which described a random violent attack on one of their friends. Despite this occurring in 1981 during the height of the troubles it took place in London not Northern Ireland. In the aftermath, their friend decided that London was far too dangerous and that he felt safer back in Belfast.
