Sofiane Boufal

According to the *ahem* ever reliable Squarka, we have made a shock £16.7m bid for Sofiane Boufal.

The Lille playmaker, who has recently been linked to a move to a number of Champions League teams, has been touted as the next Eden Hazard. He would seem a very unlikely transfer but we can always dream.

Oh yeah, I can picture it now.

We're holding on to a 1-0 with 12 mins to go and we need to stiffen up the defence and see the game out.

Who's this off the bench? It's slightly-built £16.7m man Softy Ann Boufant. Rake thin, shivering on the touchline in his gloves.

Think this would be a huge achievement if Gino pulled it off, he's been attracting a lot of attention. Won't get my hopes up, though...

Was linked to Norwich. One of the locals was asked who the Canaries top target was and he said 'it's Boufal'.

 

Sounds like a rumour to make the bigger clubs hurry up and get their bids in.

 

Along with Spurs, Sevilla and Southampton. You know what, I genuinely think we've at least enquired Lille about Boufal. It sounds too good to be true, especially with us looking so out of place with all the other clubs involved, that it actually might just be true. My only query is that if this is true, how on earth did Squawka of all places find out about this first?

Also we won't get him, so no point hypothesising about him

I'd never heard of him so I did the pre-requisite YouTube research. Nice flicks and turns etc but very little end product; not worth the fee IMO. Next.

WDsport reporting this interest in their rolling newsbites section although it's sourced "according to reports", which probably just means the Squawker link.

 

He's quite a bit like Mahrez/ Hazard. Raw, quick, direct and skilful. Can play centrally behind the striker but also come off the wing.

He scored 12 goals from midfield last year, and roughly half the goals from his right foot and the other half with his left.

He's far too good for us. But hopefully Gino will take advantage by acting quickly.

 

We're setting the bar too high. We should be looking at the next Nick Barmby or Clayton Blackmore

I saw him play at Lille during the 2014/15 season, as I had a season ticket there during my year abroad. He joined Lille in January that season and was a class above the rest of the squad. Technically he is very good and creates a lot of chances. Would be an unbelievable signing if we can pull it off.

 

I'm not so sure about spending €20m on a player who has just had knee surgery though...

 

Maybe that's what's putting off the big clubs hell of a gamble but if he can regain full fitness it could pay of handsomely.

 

That might be the reason we're able to get him, though.

Money is really no object to the big clubs in England right now. They might be happy for us to bring him over and rehabilitate him for 15 million, and then drop 40-50 million plus if he's as good as tipped to be. For the most part, the big clubs aren't looking for projects, they want to bring people in to immediately impact their results. A 22 year old coming back from knee surgery might not be top of the list.
