I have joined Blue Sky but as yet haven't found it of much use or interest so far. Suspect in time it will attract the same suspects currently on x Won't keep it's cuddly persona for long I find the likes of tictoc with girls basically whoring themselves to get likes and income from building followers more often an issue and as for the idiot men who encourage it all by adding likes and following and adding silly 'i love you' comments rather sad and pathetic. Do like DNSYE and WD18 content and our Louorns .
TBH, most of the ‘crazy click-bait’ threads were initiated by the very person whose banning you seem to bemoan. I seem to recall it was not his ‘opinions’ that got him banned, but his penchant for accusing other posters of deeply unpleasant views which were also totally untrue; including, I think, the moderators. The fact you feel it was purely his ‘different views’ that were at issue proves your statement about how rarely you look at the politics section. Post whatever well-argued sincere opinions on there you like; the responses you got will normally be respectful even when disagreeing vehemently.
See my post in reply to your earlier comment. His modus operandi was to twist everything posted by those he had decided to target so he could ‘prove’ they were fascist/racist/elitist. And he would trumpet it to all and sundry claiming people had ‘accepted he was right’ when they had done no such thing, whilst using the same falsehood in every subsequent ‘discussion’. On a purely academic level I used to quite enjoy the discipline of posting the origins of certain of the issues he chose to use as cudgels to accuse others (falsely) of quite unpleasant views. (The origin of the term ‘Third World’ was a particular favourite, whilst having to explain the philosophical term ‘tautology’ to highlight the lack of logic in his stance was humorous). But I can also understand why others found him unpleasant to the extent of upset; maybe I’m old enough to have a sufficiently thick skin to view such attacks as the utter5h1te they were, whilst others could not. And eventually he seems to have broken forum rules more than once in a very short space of time. It’s a pity you never had the pleasure of a head-to-head with him.
What was wild was that he clearly had some kind of role at the club in the 1980s, judging by his posts about the 1984 FA Cup final and anecdotes about being in the hotel the night before the match and at Elton's party on the Saturday evening after the final.
Yep, and he works in the NHS and is a union rep as per many comments in his posts. I always wondered what had happened to (apparently) reconfigure his views through 180 degrees.
I deleted my Twitter account and joined BlueSky when Musk jumped on the Trump train. I don’t post on social media anyway - I’m a lurker rather than an active participant. I do miss Twitter sometimes if I’m watching something like Bake Off or I’m a Celeb (yes, they’re my guilty pleasures) as the accompanying Twitter commentary was often quite amusing. That said, since Musk took over, it was becoming almost impossible to scroll through tweets on anything trending without having to wade through porn accounts which highjacked the trending hashtags. Even before I deleted my account, I was spending less and less time on Twitter as I seemed to spend more time blocking the porn bots than reading genuine posts.
Fair enough. I don’t post on here very often so may have missed it so what was the specific incident that got him banned forever. There must have been a trigger for it?
It was more of a combination of rule breaks and bans over a set time that was the trigger. When you have members who continually break the rules set out that 99% of the forum follow then that one percent can only get so many warnings or temporary bannings before it becomes perma. It would be the same for every other member on here, or on any other forum for that matter. As has been said by other staff members posting on a forum is privilege not a right. As long as everyone understands the basic rules of human decency, there should never be a case for another life-time ban.
Sounds like a long way of saying he was banned for having a different opinion to the lefties and robustly defending himself from bully attack Don’t worry I’ll leave it there!
You’ve obviously decided to ignore the fact he remorselessly accused people of all sorts of heinous views with no justification. It often was not debate but calculated defamation; as I have already said I quite enjoyed it on a cerebral level, but can fully understand why others found it distasteful to the extent of being upsetting. It clearly was nothing to do with his views being ‘right wing’ or contrary to the more accepted viewpoint. I suggest you read through the ‘Hamas-Israel’ thread to see how a discussion between people with totally contrary views can be held. (And an extra point for spotting when a poisonous attitude was attempted to be injected).
Hooter himself was called a racist/nazi/fascist on an hourly basis. (Or no doubt the latest one “rapist supporter”) Perhaps those slinging the insults need to take the rough with the smooth!
Except he really wasn’t, but still. He was subject to a lot of criticism of his views, and even more for his ‘debating’ style. But he was not accused of the things he regularly levelled at others. I know this from personal experience with him, and as I’ve said I never would have reported him despite all the scurrilous accusations he made against me in his posts.
I genuinely assumed Hooter was a sophisticated troll, every single debate ended up with them trying to turn any remotely left leaning or just even normal viewpoint into being right wing/racist/whatever, but they just a used a lot of words to say it.
