Snow White 2025 Is.... Something I Guess

Saw it last night with my niece who is one of the biggest Disney fans I've ever met.

Well, what a load of absolute crud. I know the backlash to this has been flooding social media and the general media. I don't follow Rachel Zegler nor would I ever care about her personal life same with Gal Gadot (although she is a knockout ;)) and their "political and war effort" beliefs have certainly casted a shadow over the promotion (Zegler especially with her comments about the original movie and her "weird weird" comment that has gone viral over the Prince.

Anyway, the actual movie itself as a movie is beautifully done, that is the one plus I can give it. Zegler as Snow White was, to be fair, abysmal. She looks the part (although her hair is horrid) and she has an amazing singing voice but that is where the positive ends. She was bland, looked pretty dis-interested and some of her line delivery looked like it needed a second or third take. Having the Dwarfs a CGI was a massive error. Dopey talking? OMG, no. Him whistling was enough, as in the animation version. Peter Dinklidge has a lot to do with why real Dwarf actors were not given the roles, but it would of worked out much better had they been played by actual actors who could at least work off Zegler's bland death stare performance.

As for Gadot as the Queen - brilliant performance in general. Her singing is dreadful and there is a reason she is an actress and not a musical broad way star. Her costume was really well done and some of her lines sounded like it was on point. I've only really seen her in Wonder Woman (original movie) and was surprised with her acting depth. She out-shone Zegler throughout the movie and it was shame she was not the hero really. It followed the same story obviously but was extended in a few areas. All this "Girl Boss" and "Woke" crap needs to be left out of re-makes. Snow White was a damsel, so what? It fits the genre of the original and was Walt Disney's first major breakout hit. Zegler wanting to "take on the world and needs no man to save her" attitude was so off the mark to what the original vision was is so disrespectful.

I would give it a 2 out of 5. That is for the looks of it and Gadot's performance. Disney, leave the classics as classics. Stop trying to cash cow them all the time. Zegler needs a reality check if she wants to work in Hollywood as well. She isn't the worst I've seen but spouting her agenda off before the movie released left it in a bad place and her career could be in trouble.

Genuine question - what did Peter Dinklidge do that stopped real dwarf actors being used?

I'm not entirely sure as it's not something I really care about, but from the drips of information it was said he "spoke out" against Dwarf actors being portrayed as 'stero-typed' roles; as in Sleepy, Dopey, Doc etc. Which to a degree I get, but it's a movie - and there are not many roles in todays Hollywood for Dwarf actors. My personal view is they should of not listened to Dinklidge and been proud to represent who they were as an actor. In such a cut-throat industry, any exposure is good exposure if you can show case you're acting talent.

Thanks for the write up Skyla although I must admit that I have no interest in seeing this film .
My point in this is about this Dinklelidge fella . Stopping dwarfs from gaining acting roles because of stereotypes is not the progressive take that he thinks it is !. Did he offer those dwarfs that lost a living other roles ? Or does he plan to offer them other non dwarf roles in future films ? . We shall have to wait and see although , sadly , I believe his stance is what is currently known as a "luxury belief"

I just went for a deep dive into this to see what was going on, why are there so many grown men and woman arguing about this online? It's a kids film? Weirdos.

Exactly. As long as she still gets to the ball, the slipper still fits her foot and she still marries the prince, who cares about a bit of artistic licence and poor performance ?

I read that dwarf actors were furious with the CGI portrayal because by doing so it deprived them the opportunity of getting work in this film.

For CGI implementation they didn't look terrible but you could tell it was a rushed effort. From the early concept and mock ups, they were originally going to use real actors. But for some reason they thought going with CGI would of been cheaper? That's a guess as there is a lot of rumours about this. Disney is not exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel for finance these days but they've probably lost a fair bit of money already for this bomb of a film.

A lot of it seems to be social media "influencers" looking for 'clicks' and 'likes'. Like everything, it's blown up to massive proportions with everyone having to have their slice of the pie. Like I said in the OP, I don't follow any of this but it's hard to go on Twitter without seeing it in the "trending" side column every day.

Au contraire the poor viewing figures and reception at the box office and streaming 'non-take up' have hit the really big money spinner for Disney - the 'merch'. AFAIK the only recent output that gained critical approval was 'Andor' but viewing figures were awful (only 'popular' with adults who don't buy merch) - all the live action remakes of their back catalogue are to make sure the IP stays 'in-house'...

It's sad to think that big parts for dwarf actors are in short supply and even small roles are being scaled down. CGI seems only likely to restrict the growth of what little opportunities there are for dwarves in the film industry

It's a perfect battle ground for the modern social media culture war.

Prominent Israel actress opposite outspoken Palestine supporter.

Classic fairytale story spun around a 'girl power' narrative

Jobs for dwarves cut, to appease the only dwarf actor getting leading man roles in this day and age.

Hispanic actress cast in 'white' role

Stunning evil queen supposedly jealous of the beauty of mid looking girl, or jealous of her inner beauty, or something.

It's a fiesta for twitter arguing.

Did you know Snow White used to think 7-up was a fizzy drink? (On reflection, maybe not high on the PC scale that one, although I was originally told the joke by a gay female friend, so who knows?)

ISTR that Popbitch kept reporting that the UK and Irish porn industry was suffering due to all their 'hot' female actors being employed by 'Game of Thrones' and that they all made a bee-line for Dinklage's 'notch on their bedposts'...
