No message from a mod, not told about it. Doesnt show up when I log in but I can see it when not logged in. Would love a word from the scumbag mod that did this rather than them hiding. I thought I would post this publicly so people can see what goes on behind the scenes rather than go through the mods themselves.
Oh, while I am at it I might as well ask any long term members if the section named after Bassinis actions is still there or have I been shadow banned from there also?
Being banned and not told about it. I havnt recieved a warning or anything. I notice no mods have said a word in this thread yet. Maybe they could post the mod logs for my account for the last 6 months. Is the section that shall not be named still on the forum for other long term members? I havnt seen it for about six months now.
Cyan the team took a decision to give you a two week ban for abusive language against other members in the Politics section. As abuse is against the rules you have been banned only from there. There are no other sections you are banned from. We accept your feedback and in future instances will message as to why a member has been banned from posting in a certain section.
I'm not a mod but it was taken down a while back because of a glitch meaning anyone could see it. Don't think it's been resolved yet. I can't see it currently.
As its the season of protest, I for one am going to protest against the mods and not log on for a while. Granted I barely log on these days anyway but that's neither here nor there. #justiceforcyan
IMHO the mods can do what the f*** they like. You've obviously been acting like a d*ck as openly displayed by posting this rather than keeping it private. Don't like it, start your own forum.
Not good enough, ******* disgraceful way to treat any member of the forum let alone someone thats has been here so long.I was banned bout ten years ago and I got a message about it.
I think the d1ck move was removing the section from my forum and not notifying me of any bad behaviour or any warnings before hand. Not going to start my own forum but thanks for the suggestion. This place has rapidly gone downhill in the last five years or so.
Ok cheers, I wasnt given a satisfactory answer when that section disappeared and when this bs happened too it seemed suspicious.
I didn’t realise the politcs section had been reopened. I thought it was discontinued as a result of too many out of control rows?
There have been more than enough general warnings in the Politics section about behaviour. It is a privilege to post on the forums, not a right. If you wish to discuss further, please feel free to DM me.
If a member breaks the rules of the forum action will be taken. As has been stated many times especially in that forum in numerous threads, repeating the same warnings over and over just doesn't seem to sink in. People can disagree with each other that is fine, but when things get personal and insults are thrown then lines get crossed. It was temporary closed last year for a cooling off period and since then the arguing and insulting has clamed a little. When a report is actioned it's dealt with on a case-by-case basis and a banning takes place (as Dom said) with an agreed decision amongst the moderation team. We have stated for a while we will not be treading so lightly anymore on that forum and swifter action has taken place since that was implemented. Rules are in place for a reason and the main reason is trying to keep everyone here safe in the knowledge that they can post without the fear of intimidation from other posters. Cyber bullying in any form is not and will not be tolerated on this forum and it's a sad state of affairs that this still happens not just here on occasion but on social media and within other forums. We are not the Internet police nor do we claim to be. We do not get paid any money (although it would be nice ) for what we do and it's a role here, and I like to think everyone is treated fairly in regards to what happens when action needs to be taken. Nobody wants to ban or suspend anyone's right to post nor do we take any personal satisfaction in doing so. But it's part of the policy written into the standard rules of the forum. Everybody has a right to free speech, everybody has a right to have their say. People may not agree with everything a person posts but that doesn't mean personal insults have to thrown their way just because they disagree. It's only going to be a matter of time before that section gets removed again and we really do not want to do that believe us. A lot of very interesting topics are discussed there and it's nice to have a place to talk about things that some people shy away from or have no interest in. But it's also the place where discussions can get the most heated and yes we allow for a slightly higher level of threshold before action is taken hence why polite warnings are issued before action is taken when problems are pushed past what is deemed to be acceptable.
It's a shame then, not to mention dull & boorish, to have to work ones way through snide insults aimed at a select few posters who go against the grain in the main forum on a relatively regular basis. It's not as if those making the snide comments are always part of the conversation either. But as regular as clockwork they'll come along with a post, unattached to any ongoing discussion, and blatantly insult who they want, when they want. Often it forms a mini conversation among several posters without naming who they're insulting but anyone with half a brain cell can see what's happening. That is still bullying behaviour even though no swearing or direct insults are thrown. It's obvious in its underhandedness. It also stops people from reading the forum let alone posting. I know this because several posters who used to keep me informed of anything worthwhile on here - and believe me when I say that is pretty sparse these days - no longer visit due to the way posting has developed into an us & them mentality, and I don't mean COG's or Bedwetters either. Just the general air of superiority over other platforms when the reactions and views are just as laughable or knee-jerk on here as anywhere else. I stopped coming on here some time back, returned when Pozzo had his public chat to see what the general take was and even began posting again. But the lack of understanding that it's possible to just ignore someone rather than post an indirect insult or get involved in a must-have-the-last-word conversation is wearing and tedious to read. The stark reality is, bar maybe 3 or 4 occasional posters who don't get involved in personal attacks, this forum isn't a gold mine of information, ideas or insight. It's just a small patch of social media which carries with it the same problems other platforms carry, ie. without talking face-to-face, things get said which wouldn't (shouldn't) normally get said. The body language is missing, the emphasis is missing and a lot of the time the common sense to take a second to breath, think and evaluate a response is missing. Discussions are great but to do so is to consider the other persons point of view rather than bash away at a device to repeat your own opinion over and over until you're blue in the face. That's called an argument. And being in a room where arguments become the norm means many will just walk out the door.
This is true, however, having had a quick look at the politics section for the first time in years, I can assure you it's a helluva lot worse in there !!! World war III. I think with different opinions and different personalities/styles you will never completely eliminate the occasional to and fro. I genuinely do find it a goldmine of info, whether it's @lowerrous or @reids info/views, your info about the younger prospects, @Burnsy and @Goldenorn s sources, sorry sauces info, others finding links/news from around the net or views of players performances in the flesh. Despite the occasional quarrels it's one of most enjoyable ways in which I waste my time.....except that @Keighley, he's a wrong'un.
Just noticed being tagged in your post. Completely agree with the Politics section point - I also avoid it. Maybe make a handful of posts a year in there. Even I don't understand how and why people can bother themselves with it. This is a football forum.
Mods are not dissimilar to football refs. People who feel affected by them love to complain but without them there would be no football. None, anywhere. Many years back I ran a place similar to this in terms of characters and after a while you get sick to the back teeth of people moaning about what is effectively a free and excellent resource. So I used to use my big stick and simply ban them, gone for good. It made for a much nicer place and workload and got you much more respect from the users that you had the balls to take action.
I got banned from the whole forum for weeks without an explanation. You don't even know you're born - pah!
I feel your pain Diamond. I used to run a Java forum a few years before I joined here and this place is a kinder garden in respect to the utter trolls myself and my team had to deal with. We didn't have a politics forum there but we had something called a "Shout Room" which was a hand-crafted pop-up created by one of my Moderators (who I actually studied with at University) but it became the straw that broke the forum's back. Apart from that, we got a lot of Spam bots and being early(ish) Internet era the forum software had very little filtering. I don't think I'd have the patience to create and run my own one nowadays though!
IMHO the politics area is a very important part of this forum I have learnt many things about the world from it. From time to time it’s challenged my own views of the world. i have also been given the chance to put views across which aren’t, errr, popular with the views of the majority of posters but hope that some, who aren’t so entrenched in their views, have also learnt the odd thing they say don’t discuss religion or politics. It will get heated. Just switch off when it ever turns personal
Lol very true. Here's a draft copy of part of a convo I had back then. JavaPete SAID ON "15.4.2009" : "Joined 1.1.2005" : "Msgs: 154" : "Rank: Amatuer" Skyla go do one you absolute boffin. It took me six weeks to solve that and you do it in five minutes? Where did you learn to code, Albert Ein Labs? Seriously though, thanks babe x ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Skyla_Beth SAID ON 15.4.2009" : "Joined 19.12.2004" : "Msgs: 16,598" : Rank: Super Admin (Owner)" That's alright Pete No offence taken. Last week you had a debate in the 'Chill Out' Sub forum about who is the best character on Sooty. Clear your own modules and stop copying other members' code perhaps? I've seen how you declare a classes. You post enough code to know better and you've been using Java for over ten years. How old are you again? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lemons_Suck_Limes SAID ON 18.4.2009" : "Joined 1.1.2009" : "Msgs: 1,059" : Rank: More Than Capable" I_Love_SHEEP give Skyla a break you d**k. How many times have you cried to the Mods about people not writing your programs for you? How much Java do you actually know? Hypocrite much LOL. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ILOVEMYMUM SAID ON 18.4.2009" : "Joined 14.2.2007" : "Msgs: 7,777" : Rank: Boffin" WOW. So many idiots on here! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope the politics section is not banned. I think people should develop thicker skins, really. Who cares? It's pixels on a screen. It doesn't matter. Worse things happen at sea. How different from BWL days. If the same rules were applied there, every single poster would have been banned within minutes. I don't think there even was a moderator for long periods of time.
It was the wild west in there but funny! The only downside was the "Post here if you hate L*t*n" thread, was so large it wouldn't always load on dial-up internet.
I find this a friendly forum and don't concern myself with much other than Football! I doubt you have a football section on a Politics forum? why do you need a politics section on WFC Forums, there's enough politics with the running of the club to have to involve constant argument re real Politics.
