Season Statistics 2020-21

Awesome season. Easily the best for stats that's for sure!

Never thought I'd be so interested in so many different variables in formations, subs, squads, fixtures and kick off times every week!

 

Hopefully I'm not muscling in on this excellent thread, however a few weeks ago I started this graph that plots our PPG as the season progressed.

• The lowest we reached at any point was after Ivic's last game where we were on 1.7 PPG
• Had we continued on 1.7 PPG we would have finished on 78 points.
• When we beat Sheffield Wednesday on Good Friday (match 39) it was the first time we got to 2PPG since our draw with Muff in October (match 7)
• Although we hit 2PPG 3 times near the end of the season, we never went over it.
• We finished on 1.978 PPG.

Under Xisco only:

• Excluding the skew caused by a loss in his second game, the lowest PPG was 1.75, unsurprisingly after the Coventry match (match 8)
• After the victory at Preston, we hit 2PPG (match 10) and never went below that again, although we hit it again after the Muff loss (match 13).
• Under Xisco, the 26 matches gave 2.192PPG, which if extrapolated over a whole season would have got us 101 points.

Couple of things to note, in 39 of our league games we conceded 0 or 1 which is staggering. Other thing is how worried everybody was about the last 4 games but we ended up winning 3 out of 4!

 

In the two seasons where we ended up in the Play Offs we only won three out of the last ten games of the season. In the two where we got automatic promotion, we won seven of the last ten. Just shows how relentless we were in 14/15 and this season.

 

Its fair to say our Championship form from February onwards is pretty good. If only we could replicate in the Premiership just once!

 

Except that in the ‘99 play-off season we also won seven of the last ten.

 

Well yes but we weren't ever in with a shout of automatic promotion in that season. The comparison with 05/06 and 12/13 is relevant as we could have gone up automatically if we'd finished the season well.

I wasn't trying to say that if you win seven out of the last ten you always get automatic promotion!

Forgetting about 2012/13 I thought you were talking about 2007/08 and I was surprised we even won as many as three!

 

Fair enough. My memory of 05/06 is that we were never really within striking distance of Sheffield U, even though the final table shows that mathematically we could have caught them with the sort of run you’re talking about. It didn’t feel like we missed out like it did in 2013, or would have done in 2015.

I was looking at that only this afternoon and wondering the same...

Sierralta had a remarkably low rate of winning headers on their system.

 

Amazing how we drew 7 in the first half of the season and only 3 in the second half.

We turned draws into wins, whereas Brentford did the opposite as the season progressed. Until it was too late for them to get autos, at least.

 

Perhaps our team is more than the sum of its parts?

 

As if the man's ever lost a header!

 

Any reason why this is still pinned despite the Championship ending over three weeks ago and the season ending last Sunday?
