Wanted in Italy .. Not by Udinese though. Monza (more known for F1) https://mobile.twitter.com/WD18Fans/status/1545023566382497792
Cant see him going there unless he really wants out. Granted they are playing in the Serie A now, but most likely will only be this season before they are relegated back to Serie B. Would be a strange move. Most articles are saying Monza’s first choice is Marlon at Shakhtar Donetsk and only if that doesn’t materialize then Samir is on the list as another option.
I'd keep him. Purely because the club will do their usual act of neglecting the defence and he's probably the best of a horrific bunch. Plus having a left-footer for the back three helps.
Rule of 11. Get him out! In all seriousness, he is one of our best centre backs (that's depressing) and if he goes we would probably need a replacement because I refuse to have Kalamity Kabs or Cathcart as starters
No great shakes (not particularly dominating in the air for a start), but yeah, probably our best defender, and unlike the others, is left-footed and isn't completely uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. Ideally I'd keep him, but I don't imagine he gives a single **** about this club, so I'm not going to shed a tear at his inevitable departure
There were a few reports online today, one citing the Athletic, saying we would listen to offers and the MLS was a possibility.
Those who are fairly (relatively) positive about the team as it is generally seem to be counting on Samir, as well as Kamara, being here next season, and as always, I am far more sceptical that that will end up being the case. If at any point it doesn't, we would be severely weakened, and a whole further area of the team we desperately need quality incomings in (on top of the ones we already need there). As ever, those USPs I like to talk about would be scanter still if this does happen/Samir does leave, in general.
I think the club is counting on those two and Femenia and Louza and Pedro to be here next season. Of course, they could leave, but unlike say Dennis, Sarr, Masina (who are being cashed in on to fill our revenue hole) - I think the plan would be to bring in replacements of similar quality to the extent possible. Kamara would be hard to replace but I think we could probably find a left-footed (non-HG if needed) replacement who would replicate Samir’s likely output in the Championship. He is a good player but hasn’t got to grips with English football yet and someone like Kortney Hause or Ben Davies (the Liverpool one) would probably perform similarly in the Championship.
Certainly agree that Kamara would be a much bigger miss, and Samir did not have anywhere near the seismic impact we needed him to, but he's also to my mind clearly the best centre at the club as it stands, and the one who can most clearly play, if nothing else, at a higher level. Given some of the blokes alongside him it seems as though he's going to be having to shepherd through games, the sort of interlinked effect of him leaving would be keenly felt, in my opinion.
Masina getting cashed in is like the bit in Jack and The Beanstalk where he takes his family cow to town and only gets some beans
Looked great on the highlights video before he signed. Another one in the long list of YouTube papering over the cracks of a very average footballer.
He’s crap. Said it when we signed him and showed little that tells me I was wrong. ‘Hasn’t got to grips with English football’ seems to be a common excuse for some players. Then the requisite scouting and homework wasn’t done given he was drafted in and expected to instantly shore up a poor defence. We couldn’t afford a bedding-in period of acclimatisation. But admittedly we have a few who are even worse, which is depressing. How this club can’t just identify a few CB’s and then build them up is beyond me. We could have got all 3 of Ballard, McNally and Ahmedodzic for not much more than Bayo cost. Just think about that.
Yup. Another poor signing on the ever-growing list by our current recruiting team. People keep telling me I’m a grump but really is there to be happy about anymore? Signing after signing is poor. Lazily made, poor due diligence, (allegedly) corrupt agent, punts that rarely come off etc Throw in the mix a new coach who could turn out to be Munoz mark two in the sense of being so overjoyed to be here, he just says yes wonderful to everything. I’d so love to be wrong (in fairness I often am) but there’s little cheer for me so far this summer about our prospects.
Had no idea that Burlusconi was the owner of Monza. Anyways no big loss if replaced buy a left footed CB. Mari, Hause, Davies. I'd personally go for Clarke at Brighton. Get Duffy in too if he's still itching for a move if they can somehow shift WTE.
Hard to see how a club that hasn't signed a good centre back for 5 years will easily replace their only average one so quickly.
I remember you being pretty pleased with the appointment of Edwards. Sad to see you've turned on him for...being happy to be here and...not being given great signings by the club a couple weeks into the window.
I’ve not turned against him at all. I expressed a small worry that he might be so happy to have got a Championship job that he rolls over and accepts whatever poor signings he’s given or fails to see the defencies in our squad merely because he’s working with players of a slightly higher level than League Two. I’ve certainly not turned against him though. I complimented him tonight on the Asprilla thread. I was a Xisco fan and had to read many comments here about lottery winner, kid in a sweet shop etc. If people felt such comments were relevant to him, then by logic the same criteria can fairly be debated about RE too until he proves himself with us. I always felt ons of Xisco’s strengths was lifting team spirit and I’m sure RE is doing the same with each day that passes. That is worth something in my book. So no need to put me in your naughty corner just yet!
Please don’t ever feel feel sad about my posts. I’m a nobody. A miserable non-entity of a poster here. Rarely worth reading let alone getting upset or sad about my opinions.
I'd be astonished if Clarke dropped to the Championship. No chance of Mari either - he'd likely go to a top league abroad. Duffy might, but he's right-footed. Hause might not be impossible, but I could also imagine a lower PL club like Fulham or Forest taking him. He's also just had knee surgery and will be out until mid-August. Davies might not be impossible, but he's been linked with Celtic for £4mil which could rule us out. Also, although he's alright, I'm not sure he's actually much of an upgrade.
You’d be astonished if Matt Clarke who has spent the last 3 seasons on loan in the Championship would drop to the Championship? Are you thinking of someone else?
I believe he was ar WBA last season and by all accounts the fans loved him. Duffy yes is right footed but would be a major improvement on our defensive unit especially if we can shift WTE.
As for Mari you're probably correct, I'm just hoping with Edu's don moving to us would create some better contact with the Gooners.
Personally not sure Clarke is that good. Highly rated at Portsmouth but he’s gone backwards a bit. Although young enough at still only 25. I just wonder whether we’d be that bothered if he was right-footed!
