In and of itself, I'm not devastated at Samir leaving, he's mediocre and clearly isn't desperate to play for us in the Championship, but on the flip side, he'd probably have done quite well in the Championship, and a semi-decent ball-playing CB is useful for any club to have. Looks like we'll need 3 new starting CBs now for Edwardsball to really work, which isn't ideal (don't think we'll do that though as I don't see us shifting many other CBs)
I reckon we’ll get two. New outside CBs with Sierralta, Pollock or even WTE the CCB (who offers the least in terms of ball progression). Cathcart cover at RCB. Not ideal but if the two newbies are of the appropriate calibre and age and have the right characteristics (a big big if of course) then I think that’s a decent enough unit.
Yes, and you know what? I wouldn't blame Edwards for doing that, he's got his philosophy, but we have so many defenders who are utter cloggers, out of all the defenders we have who are going to be here next season, I think Cathcart is probably the best ball-player
We need footballing CBs. Cargill at FGR, Darling at the Dongs who looks the ********, Salter all upgrades imo
Pollock will be an interesting one, I'm interested by him, clearly he's got something about him to be doing what he's doing at L1 level at his age, but a) you wonder if he's going to be able to make the step up, b) whether he's best placed playing occasionally for us or regularly at L1/lower Championship level, and c) will be ever actually he good enough for upper Championship/Prem level given his limitations?
I'm assuming he's just there to do some training before pre-season starts but Samir is at Flamengo's training ground today.
Samir is going to Italy. Watford have defensive HG options in hand. RE decision RE quote: “Yes there’s a chance now that Samir will be sold and move on. If that’s the case then we will be recruiting in that area of the pitch.” Source: Andrew French
Nope. It’s a Serie A club but not Udinese. Watford will be expecting a fee and will reinvest in a HG defensive option. Welcome Gary Cahill Edit:- French has confirmed via Twitter that Watford are looking to sign a left footed HG centre-back.
They say that they’re looking for a HG player but we’ve all heard that before. Having said that I wouldn’t be surprised if we rekindle our interest in Kortney Hause from Villa, although I’d love Levi Colwill on loan from Chelsea, but I suspect he’ll be playing in the Premier League next season.
French has also said all of the HG CB options he’s seen the club going for are under 30. So Gary Cahill will not be signing.
Rodon is right-footed and will surely have PL interest; supposedly Fulham and Forest both wat him. It could be nonsense but Saints and Leicester have supposedly been trying to sign Colwill.
It would be a lot simpler if you just posted the link to the article or c+p'd it. One always has to go and check anyway as people aren't always very good at accurately summarising things on here which have been written elsewhere. (for those who want to read it for themselves, it's here: https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/20438927.watford-sell-defender-replacements-mind/ )
Suppose Samir leaving with an HG replacement in mind lines with the rule of 11 cited. Not devasted by this by any means, but skeptical of our replacement until proven otherwise.
Yes. We did play him there. He’s very good in possession but not the best at defending - a bit weak. Would have been a great RCB for Edwards and think we sold him too cheaply.
