The local rag in the black country 'understands' we're in the race to sign Sam Johnstone: https://www.expressandstar.com/spor...06/02/west-brom-ready-for-sam-johnstone-bids/ Us and West Ham preparing bids but not likely to reach WBA's £20m asking price, especially with his contract up next summer.
£20m for a keeper with a year left on his contract, that is crazy. Decent keeper but can't see him coming here.
Odd one. Especially as Musso is available from Udinese. They'll be extremely lucky to get half of that valuation. On another note 10m plus Deeney and Gray would be sublime negotiating.
Let his contract run down and snag him next year if we are still up. WBA are on something if they think a keeper with 12 months left on his deal is worth £20m.
Any club in their right mind would over value its players but if he wants to go he will but for nowhere near 20m
How does anybody actually know if a club is ‘readying a bid’?. If you’ve actually bid, that’s different. It always come across as nonsensical jargon when the media use that expression.
I agree, though agents do speak to the media to drop them a bone every now and again. I wouldn't normally post these but it was by a named local journalist and I've not seen it anywhere else online recently that might suggest said journo has used Twitter or something as a source.
Perfectly valid thread to start @UEA_Hornet it was just the expression I laughed at. It conjures up images of us and West Ham emptying our piggy banks or meeting our local bank manager to ask him how much spare cash we might have handy!
To be fair, these days, by the time a bid is made the players agent will have agreed a provisional contract, tried to agree a fee with each club and it's all but done.
It's basically impossible to believe this. We have a Premier League standard keeper in Foster. We have a keeper who was brilliant for half of last year in Bachmann. We have another potential future starting keeper in Dahlberg. I cannot imagine spending this type of money when we already have so many options at that position. This just feels like agent hype to prompt a bidding war with West Ham.
Playing devils advocate. Do we actually know how good Bachmann is? He made 35 saves all season. Foster is also probably Championship standard now given his age
You could make caveats for all those points though - the only one I'd say is nailed on is that we won't be spending anywhere near the amount quoted on a GK. I don't think it's inconceivable we might sign one though.
You can never have enough keepers. Maybe we’re offering 1st team football in the first 11, supposed to other clubs maybe only giving him a place in the squad. Trying to get him on the cheap as WBA setting the price at £20m is wishful thinking when he can go for nothing in a year. Chuck a player or 2 in the deal maybe dhalberg on loan for a season or 2 and it could happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's my view too. I don't think Foster or Bachmann are as good as Gomes was in 2015 and if an opportunity arose for Pozzo to bring in a keeper for the right price I don't think he'd hesitate. This is the second keeper we've been linked with this summer already after Souza in Brazil came up a couple of weeks ago. Whether that means the feelers are out or it's just journos playing games I wouldn't like to say for sure.
With the exception of maybe the Derby and Luton games, I think he dealt with everything he had to. Id guess we have his season at Killie as well as further evidence of what he is capable of. Not going to pretend I watched it because Scottish football is *****, but reportedly he did well. Think it also needs to be said that he has reportedly become a part of the leadership group of the team.
This. Foster clearly keeps himself fit too. If his heart and head are still 100% committed, he's still a EPL standard GK.
