A lot of people on this forum said that 2 seasons ago. He’s still here, No.9 and captain. First choice striker and never dropped under Gracia. The club’s opinion of him has long differed from the fans on this forum.
I’m not a huge Troy fan, but the fact is when he was suspended for 3 games at the end of last season we looked toothless. Our owners don’t have the resource to bring in a superior forward. They are financially out of their depth. I wouldn’t want to be relying on Gray/Okaka/Success alongside Delefeou for a whole season.
Not necessarily true. Burnley got £8 million for Ings. Sinclair £4million was end of contract as well? (Not 100%)
I’m not one of his naysayers. I think he’s the best we have in the role way play him and the formation Gracia we wants. But I do think this summer was the time to start gravitating away from Troy and his captaincy. A succession plan for him as a player or leader is not clear whatsoever.
I think (also not 100%) that Liverpool eventually settled on paying that to stop it running on and on through tribunal. Also think we did similar in the end with Sinclair. As tribunals are pretty set in their terminology, how a tribunal could say Sinclair was worth £4m given his achievements to that date is unfathomable. That’s not to say you’re wrong...
You’re right that Watford and Liverpool “settled” on a development fee so not tribunal based. Ings was tribunal determined.
Pozzo doesn’t have the resource to replace him when he is too old. So either Joao Pedro or Cucho come off. Or we probably go down with the current other donkeys up front.
In terms of him being ‘striker’ I can accept that. Personally I think he’s close to be a busted flush as captain though and I’ve had concerns over just how much influence he seems to have for a season or two now...
The worrying thing about that is the ‘tribunal (Ings)’ was far better value for money than what Watford decided to ‘settle’ for over Sinclair. Gino the Genius does is again.
These rumors about him leaving seem to have been going on for a while. Perhaps this has been part of the consideration when it comes to deciding whether he’s worth being given chances with the first-team, either in training or match day squads. If it’s been his intention to move on, and the club knew this, it may offer some clues. Then again, we’ve really not had much luck when it comes to developing our own talent, and it’s clearly not a priority. I’m sure that’s partly down to the fact we’ve not had anybody good enough, but it’s hard to think of a young player who’s been given the chance to start proving themselves.
Sounds like the agent wants to monetise. At what level would this youth realistically be starting? League One?
Not really to do with Cassidy, but I just noticed that Leicester did this with George Hirst from Sheffield Wednesday - he let his contract run out last summer, then once it expired he signed for Leuven in Belgium who are Leicester's "sister club", and being on the continent had to pay hardly any compensation. Smart move by George too, he obviously saw that Wednesday ruined the great Almen Abdi and decided he wanted out.
Needs to knuckle down, improve his overall game and get time down the pyramid. His father is presumably looking at the money rather than the career his son needs to carve out. Unfortunately most of the players that follow this route amount to nothing in the end.
