Exclusive: Watford eyeing short-term deal for 34-year-old to ease current issue | Football League World Short-term contract for ex-Newcastle keeper Rob Elliot. Decent third choice cover I'd say.
Yeah. Seems like a fine back up to have and we’re probably able to have him on board for only one or two months, just until Foster returns, making it a fairly cheap way to go (as opposed to a loan which would have to be for the rest of the season, I believe, although keeper cover can sometimes be treated differently). If he’s training with us now then we’ll have been able to do a bit of due diligence too which is important as he hasn’t played a game for 3 years!
I'm sure he'd sign for the rest of the season. Who knows if another keeper will pick up an injury or Covid keeping them out for 10 days. Parkes isn't ready for the first team yet, and we've got away with him being there for now. Elliot is a no brainer for this season.
Very sensible move. I'm surprised he's not played for so long, I always thought he was a very decent keeper
Genuinely thought it was this bloke when saw the thread title. 47 years old and retired 13 years ago? Get him in on a four year deal! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Elliott
I wonder if Foster is actually out for a long time? Not the move I was expecting, and I didn't know he hasn't played a game in 3 years, but a perfectly acceptable 3rd choice keeper, hope it doesn't come down to it, but you'd back him more than Parkes
Yea probably not, but 34 is still a decent age for an experienced keeper (and about 3 years younger than Ben)
This is a terrific signing. To get someone as good as Rob Elliot as your number three as a Championship club is very good business. He's still only 34. I'm surprised he was without a club. A very good pro. Newcastle's player of the season in 2016!! At least the Pozzo's have learned something. It was the lack of a quality third choice keeper that cost us promotion in 2012.
As you saw with Britos, Prodl, Gomes etc, we don't like to see folks retire.. Likely 4 year deal in the summer.
You're quite right. Although with us it's an incredibly slow self-closing door where Gino teases us with the prospect of incomings and ends up throwing in a late backup keeper.
Nobody is buying or selling this window by the look of it, only one major deal in the Prem for instance.
