Had we been any othet club this would have been in the media that we alledgedly wanted him and he wanted to come. But it seems we play fair as this is the first I've heard of our interest.

    Is he any good?

The Bournemouth Echo also seem to suggest that we could come back in for him before the loan window closes tomorrow.

"With the loan window due to close tomorrow at 5pm, Watford could come back in for Wiggins ahead of the deadline, with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer."

It would be strange for him to make a transfer request now if he didn't think he was going to be leaving until the end of the season, so hopefully we'll be able to get him!

That said, I think Hodson's been pretty good for us recently. :)

Just the kind of signing I had hoped for, been to a couple of Bournemouth games and he played great in both, fast, a good crosser and most importantly sound defensively. If I remember correctly, he took a lot of their free kicks too!

    Wikipedia says:

Rhoys Barrie Wiggins (born 4 November 1987) is an English-born Welsh Under-21 international footballer who plays for Bournemouth in League One. He is a defender playing at left back.
Rhoys came through the academy at Crystal Palace, playing regularly for their reserve side, whilst also turning out for the Wales U-21 team. His appearances for the Welsh U-21s also led to a call-up to the Welsh national squad.
However, tragedy struck in the pre-season of 2006, when he ruptured knee ligaments during a friendly against feeder academy Crystal Palace Baltimore, part of the Eagles' tour of the USA. He was sidelined for the rest of that season, and several recurrences of that injury kept him out of the following season as well. However Neil Warnock decided to offer him a new contract, seen by many as his final chance at Palace.
Impressive performances in Wales U21's 2009 European Under-21 Championship qualification play-off defeat to England led to Wiggins being given his first start for the Eagles' first team shortly afterwards.
However, this one appearance for Palace was not added to, and he ended the season on loan at Bournemouth. With his contract at Palace expired, Wiggins was offered to choice between staying at Palace or moving on, and he opted to sign for Norwich City. After failing to make an appearance for Norwich, on the 22nd Jan 2010 he resigned for Bournemouth on a months loan and on the 24 Feb 2010 it was extended for a second month.[1]
Wiggins signed a permanent contract with Bournemouth at the start of the 2010/11 season. He then registered the first goal of his career in a 3-0 home win against Dagenham and Redbridge. He quickly followed up this goal with a long range free kick in a 2-1 defeat away to Oldham a week later. This impressive form saw him receive a first Wales national team call-up from manager Brian Flynn. Wiggins wasn't included in the matchday squad.

He's a very tidy player as they say in Wales.

Been very impressive for the Cherries. That said we do have Thommo.

But competition for places can never hurt and he is a young un too.

    http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/8928353.Cherries__Departures_the_spur_for_Rhoys_s_request/

CHERRIES’ wantaway defender Rhoys Wiggins explained his decision to hand in a transfer request and pointed the finger at the Dean Court club.

Wiggins yesterday formally expressed his desire to leave following interest from Watford.

Chairman Eddie Mitchell confirmed the Championship outfit had submitted two firm offers, both of which were turned down.

Wiggins, who signed a two-year contract when he joined Cherries on a permanent basis in July, last night insisted a move to Watford would give him the chance to further his career.

He also suggested he had been assured Cherries would not block any potential move to a higher level and that he had been told team-mates would not be sold, only to see them subsequently head through the exit.

The left-back claimed: “I was told early on that if ever a club from a higher league came in, Bournemouth wouldn’t stand in my way.

“I was told, more or less when I first came down, that other players wouldn’t be sold and would be kept, and a few players have gone.

“After a few players did go, in January I went in again because I had interest from another club, not Watford, and was told nobody else was going anywhere, so I accepted that. Then another player departed.”

The Echo was last night unable to contact Mitchell or chief executive Neill Blake for a response. But discussing the Wiggins situation earlier in the evening, Mitchell said: “You know where we are in the league and you know we are in a position to push for at least the play-offs and that is one of the reasons we declined them. The other reason was the offers were miles away from what we value him at.

“The offer was too light and we want to keep him anyway. We couldn’t replace him for what they offered us so what is the point in selling him?

“We are an ambitious club and we want to be challenging Watford next season, not selling them our players now.”

Wiggins added: “They are in a good position where they can get promoted – I understand that – and that is what their aim is.

“But at the same time, it is a chance for me to further my career and I think Watford is the sort of club that ticks all the right boxes for me.

“It is close to home and they are going for promotion themselves and are in and around the play-offs. That is why I did it.

“I think they are fair offers, otherwise I wouldn’t be kicking up so much of a fuss. It is a good opportunity and I have got to do what is best for myself.”

With the loan window due to shut at 5pm today, Watford could come back in for Wiggins ahead of the deadline, with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer.

My Bournemouth supporting mates have said that Wiggins is a decent left back who they would be gutted to lose. He loves a tackle, is good going forward and takes quite a few of their set pieces.
He's already been included in the last couple of the Full Welsh squads (although admittedly thats not the most difficult squad to get into). Wiggins has made played over 30 games this season and none of the Bournemouth supporters I've spoken to can remember him having a bad game.
    Sounds v promising!
Get it done if you can Malky....

From the Bournemouth Daily Echo Thursday 24/03/11:

    Wiggins told the Daily Echo...

"I was told early on that if ever a club from a higher league came in, Bournemouth wouldn`t stand in my way.

"I was told, more or less when I first came down, that other players wouldn`t be sold and would be kept, and a few players have gone...

I just had a read of a Bournemouth forum and understandably they are a little cheesed off with Wiggins looking to leave with about 9 games to go.

Although there was one error I kept spotting on the board, with comments like "Watford come along with money bags and Wiggins wants to leave"
Maybe we should keep it quiet the club has no money..

We don't need money, we barter.

I hear he will get free sandwiches for all the games he doesn't feature in, a £30 HMV gift voucher and new football boots if he comes.

    Having money is for losers.

EDIT: Besides, I don't like the way this guy has gone about things, he doesn't seem to fit our system of having hard working, honest players who will quietly work harder to get played rather than throw their toys out - hence why Deeney plays over Sordell etc.

Handing in a transfer request with 9 games to go shows a lack of character and class for me. Graham could have done the same thing, but he hasn't. Distinctly unimpressed by the situation he has manufactured himself at a club who picked him up as a Palarse and Norwich utter reject. Forcing your way out of a club is not acceptable.
