My understanding is when Duxbury told Andrew French “a load of rubbish” he in fact misheard the question and mistakenly thought he was being asked for his opinion on the player concerned.

Watched some more clips of him to refresh my memory this week. This is him on the ball about 1 second before he shot for goal from basically the halfway line. Against Napoli. With their GK in goal...This is what I meant about his decision making + being frustrating to watch at times.

Why would Toney want to come to a circus like our club is now?

 

At the time (the season before last) he was apparently willing to come, and even shares an agent with Troy, so it wouldn’t have been a difficult deal to get over the line if we’d been serious about doing so. In reality due to having players like Deeney and Gray on the books we probably couldn’t find the £5m (even though it pretty much guaranteed a huge return) but it’s just interesting under what circumstances we can find similar sums (Bayo).

Rob Edwards talking about Rey Manaj, from the Watford Observer:

“He’s a player that I’ve been able to watch a lot on video, and he’s very impressive, he’s strong and technically very, very good. He’s good at getting hold of the ball with his back to goal, and holding onto it. He’ll bring a bit of dynamism, a player that we can play off and bring others into play.

“He’s a fighter, and in the Championship you need players who are willing to scrap a bit.”

“The club and myself feel he’s a player who can help us in the here and now, but who can also be a good player for us in the future too, hopefully at a higher level,” said Edwards.

“The other thing is he has a good attitude, and I want a group of players who all have that.”

With Manaj and Vakoun Bayo on board, the club have increased attacking options. But Edwards is still looking to further strengthen the forward line.

“I’d like to get one or two young, homegrown players on board in that area of the pitch,” he said. “That may take time though, as we need a domino effect to start at other clubs in order for player movement to start.”

 

Edwards seems enthusiastic over Manaj, although admits to only seeing him on videos.

He also said we are looking to bring in one or two more forward players who are home grown and young. So, that could mean Archer, but seems to rule out Armstrong, Joao & Davis as possible candidates.

 

I think you could consider Armstrong young based on our average squad age and the age of player we normally go for, although we can still rule him out on the basis that it would be a good signing.
