  1. In reality of course he beat Holland (brilliant result and performance) and drew the other two before the lottery of pens. His reputation is entirely built on that one Holland game (plus of course a thoroughly enjoyable win against little old Scotland!).

We played awful against Spain, but really should’ve beaten Germany, we had the better chances by far. And that was a Germany who were the real deal.

Can’t be arsed to look back at the records, but Spain weren’t that much cop then, were they? I remember much discussion of how a country with such a strong domestic league had such a poor record in international tournaments.

Spain were perennial underachievers, much like England, up to the wonder team of the noughties.

Again true which is why is said it was small sample size. We actually played poorly against Spain if I recall as well. I think the strong performance in semi final also adds to his legacy though. Similar stuff to the 1990 semi.

underachievers I’d say. The world cups that bookmarked 1996 they played pretty well in 1994 and lost late to Italy in quarters and in 1998 were fairly well fancied but imploded in group stage (remember Nigeria beating them 3-2 in a classic)

  8. Yes very true - awful against Spain, unlucky against Germany. As you say, small sample size. Always hated Venables.

Nkoulou started for Cameroon this morning. Yet another former Watford star playing at the highest level.

Later on ITV1, Team X v Team Y, a really mouthwatering prospect, and tomorrow it's Team U v Team V an even more mouthwatering match, and then later on Team K v Team L, so mouthwatering that you'll be needing to suck on a whole bucket of silica gel. All live and exclusive on ITV1, more mouthwatering than old skool Opal Fruits.

The entire back line + keeper for South Korea are called Kim, as well as five of the subs.

Remember when we were heavily linked with Kim Min-Jae? Now here he is in the WC and one of the best CBs in Serie A this season. Can't remember which bag of ***** we signed instead but good times.

"not much yet for the goalkeepers to work with"
"It is important to win your first game but also don't lose it as well...."

One shot on target in 82 mins so far. The matches seem to either be stunning or dreadful.

All stemmed from a January transfer window tweet by the ever reliable Leventhal where he claimed we’d made bids for him and Maxwell Cornet and were ‘in talks’.

Funny reading through the transfer section thread. One familiar player ‘expert’ poster unsurprisingly said that he couldn’t have been any good as we didn’t sign him. Lol.

This World Cup is a bit of a joke off the pitch and, with the farcical added time, dodgy VAR and guaranteed penalty every game, is becoming a joke on the pitch.

There was definite interest from our side, Giraldi confirmed it a few months back (https://www.tribalfootball.com/arti...g-kim-min-jae-i-wanted-him-at-watford-4423330)

Decent end to Portugal v Ghana (currently 3-2). 9 extra minutes. Time enough to really fark off the substituted CR7.

Arse. Ghana contrive to mess up 9 added minutes with a slew of misplaced passes and unforced errors.

Portugal got away with that in many ways .

Bit more confidence to get forward earlier by Ghana and composure at the end and Portugal might have been in trouble.

Clearly we had our scouting right for one player...

Starting up front for Brazil in a World Cup is a former Watford player.

That's pretty insane to say out loud.
