Because Burnley had a lot of seasons before they did go down when they flirted with it quite a bit. It's the only example I can really give for a long-term PL club that finally dropped after years of just doing enough.

Nevermind, thought I’d be more bothered than I am, not that it’s nice like.

We won the ******* Prem in the era of Sky money and oil clubs having spent about 20 quid on players, relatively speaking. That’s worth dozens of relegations in my book.

Mental it’s been allowed to happen though.

Money spent in the past 7 seasons:

    22/23 - 67m
    21/22 - 30m
    20/21 - 61m
    19/20 - 109m
    18/19 - 80m
    17/18 - 177m
    16/17 - 81m

    Wow! Well done Everton!

Your boys did what they had to do. It's not their fault they were relegated via a deflected shot from an ex Watford player. It was the shocking start you made that put you where you are now, one win in seven games. Not sure what has gone on behind the scenes at Leicester but I do know some sorting needs to be done over the Summer. I can gaurentee you will finish above us in the Championship next season though. ;)

That would clear our debt like four times over. Amazing how poor they have been. Just goes to show that money doesn't buy success, and they clearly have gone for the wrong players for a fair few seasons.

And don't forget Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle pre-takeover, Wigan (although that's more excusable as it was a bit of a miracle they even made the Premier League in the first place, let alone stayed there as long as they did).

When a team is in a rut it can be really hard to get out of it no matter how big the club is - West Ham are something of an exception in that they alternate being really good one season and awful the next. How are Everton finance-wise?

Well they spent 67M this season in total so pretty good if they can splash that sort of cash around. As @wfc4ever said, they could be in some hot water over FFP, but not to the level Man City are.

Great to see the fat fraud see out his time at Leeds with a nearly impeccable losing record. I agree, next time round I doubt there will be any lower Prem owners/CEOs beating a path to his door to get Fireman Sam in to guarantee their last minute survival with his out of date defensive tactics. I guess the Leeds hierarchy rolled the dice but unfortunately Sam misunderstood and just swallowed them whole.

I see the Leeds fans weren't meekly applauding BFS' and his team's best efforts at the end of today's stuffing by an out of form Spurs. Although I'm sure it would have ended in tears for Gracia had they kept him on too, I'll bet Javi will have a wry smile on his face tonight.

Word to the wise Sam, might be wise if you celebrate with your usual pint of wine in Lancs rather than Yorks tonight.

I think many Spurs fans may actually be relieved that Brighton didn't get an equaliser, West Ham may have made the final but it's a mickey mouse competition (the Football League Trophy of European competition) and they need a season or two out of Europe to rebuild the side, especially if Kane and/or Son depart - not even making Europe two seasons running actually seems to have been beneficial in enabling Arsenal to put together the squad they have now.

The ‘Premier’ League now has Bournemuff, Brentford, Fulham, L***n and Burnley. Ooh the glamour.

The only thing that could make it even less attractive would be us getting promoted.

    You’re a sweetheart Sky!

It’s all part of the fun, you can’t truly appreciate the highs without taking repeated kicks in the nethers first.

I imagine we’ve both got pretty low expectations for our clubs next season, perhaps we’ll meet on the last day of the season, in 22nd and 21st places and we’ll get some sweet revenge at last for the Deeney goal!

At least you add a splash of colour with your nice yellow shirts. There’s a lot to be said for being the least ugly one rather than the prettiest if you know what I mean.

After I was done putting my son to bed earlier my wife came upstairs and said she was popping out for a walk because she’s feeling a bit gutted. She’s from a family of Leicester fans but don’t tell her I said this, only really got into it in the summer of 2016 after we won the league and coincidentally when we met.

Had to give her the talk about it not being the end of the world, it’s actually a more authentic experience, more fun and drama etc, at least she’ll be able to get a ticket and come next season yadda yadda.

Reminded me of being the told the same by my dad, and that lying is an integral part of love.

Come on in! The championship water's fine!

    1. No VAR!

    2. Fond farewells to fairweather fans ffffarking orf to 'support' Man City instead. Much more chance of getting a ticket. Usually cheaper too.

    3. More games! More midweek matches under the lights!

    4. EFL highlights with a better theme tune than that hoary old dirge of MoTD and the wise words and profound thoughts of Sam Parkin and Jobi Macanuff on your team's performance.

After first sitting through Stoke v Huddersfield and Hull v Rotherham of course.

Had this very discussion with a Spurs fan a few weeks ago. I think the vast amount of money at the top level has turned the supporters of some Premier League clubs funny in the head.

The Europa Conference League is a really decent competition – easily better than the old Cup Winners' Cup, which really was bobbins – especially by the end.

The Champions League is a bloated mess – and about to get worse – and it's good to see famous European clubs like Roma, Feyenoord, Marseille (last year) and Fiorentina this doing well in something.

As for Spurs, their supporters are completely deluded. They've won two League Cups in 32 years. In fact, it's two League Cups and one FA Cup in 40 years. The Europa Conference League is a genuine chance to win an actual trophy. The Premier League con job that finishing third or fourth is better than wining a cup has worked on so many people – it's almost as if they actually get to share some of the money!

Ugh, just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I’ve just seen that Amanda Holden is an Everton fan. As I said, ugh.

Coventry dodged relegation for well over 30 years, albeit not all in the Premier League.

Quite right, although I don’t think they were always down at the bottom like Cov/Everton.

I had no idea she was actually. Right, my dislike for her has gone up a further level now. Not sure if anyone else listens to it, but Heart Radio has her squealing voice on from 6am - 9am and it gets grating.

Think that gives them a disadvantage rather than advantage. A good start is often essential for confidence and survival for smaller clubs. Three away games in the bounce could puncture their confidence.

Partly it's because I think their stadium and smaller pitch will be a distinct positive for them compared to most normal promoted clubs. And while I agree your bit in bold is usually right - I'd take that every time if it was us - when you're wide-eyed and naive and new to the league like they'll be there's always going to be a reality check at some point. I think I'd rather have it at the start and have time, the January window etc to fix it knowing I've got home games stacked at the end.

L*t*n will be the PL media darlings at the start of next season, due to their alleged ‘romantic’ ascent from non-league. But if they were to crash and burn early on and it became clear they were not going to become the next Brentford, how long would it take the media to start ignoring them as a hopeless case destined for a quick return to the real world?

Weren’t they the equivalent after both of us got promoted together and we stayed in the top flight for 6 years? Something to do with their football being more pleasing to the eye IIRC.
