Well is it a top 7 now?

    Alan Shearer might think so.

The Home Counties will be suffering with apoplexy.

Diagnosis Murder man looking all at sea for the winner from Jimmy and Julia Summerville.

Bournemouth are surely going to be in the relegation mix, for all the talk of their new-found resilience the fact is they’ve only won twice since the opening game.

And although you sometimes get teams that are too big/good to go down getting relegated, I think you could make a pretty strong case for most of the teams below Muff to finish above them. Unless they achieve a coup in the next transfer window, the equivalent of Brentford’s Erikssen…

I watched Leeds deserved win at Anfield last night - have to say Liverpool look a shadow of the side who won the PL that year. Either Klopp has run out of ideas and is getting stale or they need a major think about how they play. Credit to Leeds though, they worked hard and took the chance they got whereas Liverpool continued to mess up theirs most of the game. I agree with the above comment from @LondonOrn also. Muff to chuck a 2-0 lead away at home against Spuds is pretty bad, almost like we did last season letting in a last minute goal when a valuable point was seconds away from our grasp at the time.

Missing Mane and actually got quite an ageing squad or some who are injury prone.

Bournemouth just couldn’t defend set plays - wasn’t even VAR to blame this time !

Much closer league this year, and it feels like there aren't any whipping boys/ a much greater home advantage than in previous years. Given injuries/ tiredness from the WC is more likely to impact the top teams, this could be a very interesting season.

The lower Liverpool sink down the league, the better as far as I’m concerned. Aside from that, in general it would be healthy if a biggish club were relegated if only to remind the media ‘experts’ that no club has a divine right to be in the top division. It’s impossible to imagine any of the really big ones going down in the way they did years ago, but Everton would be ideal - although it doesn’t look likely right now. Leeds would normally fit the bill, but they haven’t been up for enough seasons yet. The likes of Palace, Southampton and Leicester aren’t really big enough and they would soon be forgotten in the way Swansea, Stoke etc. have been.

A wise man said a coach stays at a club no longer than seven years.

He was referring to tennis but it could easily apply to football, our good selves notwithstanding!

Klopp walked from Dortmund when it had run its course.

It will be intriguing to see how strong his and his wife's well publicized love of Merseyside is.

Wasn’t Klopp fired for being bottom of the league? The Liverpool board make a huge deal about how they looked through the results at Dortmund as the teams underlying stats were still really good.

Ferguson would be the black swan in the theory, but he’s basically just an outlier.

Sickening to see Newcastle given a free pass.

Watford get more bad press for sacking managers.

The football world was outraged when we sacked Ranieri as well plenty of bitter or patronising comments when we won the league.

Even the BBC are licking their lips at the prospect of Newcastle joining the hallowed ‘Big x clubs’.

It isn’t a sporting achievement and it’s the final nail in the coffin for my interest in the Premier League. I don’t have a season ticket anymore because there’s now seven clubs that I flatly refuse to pay money to go and watch.

I’m starting on the non league football next month with a mate, going to watch Loughborough Dynamo. I still love Leicester but I find it so difficult to get into the Premier League now. The ubiquitous style of play is boring, we’ve got the scab clubs, the nation state owned petro clubs, my own club risking relegation by trying to adhere to FFP while at the same time other clubs get given a virtually free pass.

There’s no magic left in it now. Can’t even watch or enjoy the World Cup this year.

I think many of us think like you now. Out of interest, will you go back to Leicester once they inevitably are relegated back to the Championship? (I'm not saying it will happen this season, but it will happen.) Then will you be hoping they are promoted again, or will you be in the same purgatory inhabited by some who are happy with a perpetual Championship existence?

I don’t know really, I’d like to think that things might be different by then with reform to the Premier League and a breakaway super league or something.

I don’t think the current owner is up to the job and will sell the club, also King Power took a right kicking during Covid.

I worry about who will buy the club. King Power have taken part in their own soft power campaign at Leicester but it’s regarded at kitsch and fun because it’s all free cake and monks blessing the pitch. I’ve never been a massive fan of it but it’s easy to ignore and it’s never felt like a massive sportswashing campaign.

As fans we’ve had it about as good as we could realistically have hoped for. The club didn’t sell its soul or turn on the cheat codes. I’d go and watch us in The Championship but I don’t know how I’d feel long term if the Prem stays how it is.

I can’t identify the Man Utd player from that picture because I’ve completely lost my interest in the game as a neutral and that’s partly thanks to the utterly **** and ubiquitous punditry.

I used to follow all of the podcasts, with their experts and their hot takes and their super special guest journalists…. They all know **** all. Not one of them pays a jot of attention to the 99.9% of football that happens outside several clubs in England. It’s so dull and like with any reality show or soap opera, they constantly grope around for dramatic or controversial **** to spout.

Hear, hear! It suits them to concentrate only on a handful of the ‘biggest clubs’. Everyone else is there just to be patted on the head on the rare occasions they cause an upset. Just so long as they don’t actually win anything. Even the women’s game is now being moulded in that image.

Ralf Hassenhutl sacked per BBC. "The Saints "will be announcing a permanent replacement in due course" and one of the early frontrunners for the post is Luton Town boss Nathan Jones."
    That would be nice.

Dear @Filbert. You are right. I don't like to do what some do on here which is blow their own trumpet when they are proven right by dragging up old posts but scurry into hiding when the opposite is true. But I've watched Lisandro Martinez from his time at Defensa y Justicia.

Souness. A grade nob. As if no great defenders in the past have been smallish. Passarella, Baresi and Cannavaro are three of the finest.

Surely Everton will be sacking Lampard just in time for him to join the Sky Sports World Cup panel with Gerrard.

When players and fans are trying to fight each other and the fans are throwing back the shirts that the players are throwing to the fans, that can only result in one thing. Hilarious seeing Doucoure ‘squaring up’ to them.

Those fans should be careful what they wish for. Our fans would never throw a shirt back.

I think it’s safe to say definitely, they would’ve been investigating it for a while before charging him, the offences date back to 2017.
