I wouldn't disagree with that assessment. To me the appointment of Manga certainly falls into the category of "Grasping for Salvation" and maybe he (and the HC of his choosing) will provide the "charismatic leader[ship] with a a clear vision" referred to. But, and it's huge but, salvation will only come if they are left to do their jobs. If Gino interferes, we will be straight on to phase 5. Can Gino relinquish control in this way? We'll see. My hope is that the one person I guess he listens to has a very strong word with him. That person is his father.
Manga has already said all final decisions will made by a groupthink of him, Duxbury, Giaretta and Pozzo. Manga can recommend whoever he wants, but if they’ve looked funny at any of the other three when passing them in the corridor, the deal is off. Why Duxbury is involved in footballing decisions is beyond me.
Good question. I would label the vertical axis as success, achievement or performance. Thus, one of the author’s key arguments is that an organisation can be in the early stages of decline, even though outwardly performance or achievement is improving.
The line is either: - the number of doughnuts bought in the canteen, with Danny Rose joining early Stage 2 but gone by late Stage 3. - Ben Fosters popularity.
Seen a lot of “I’m not Pozzo out, I’m Pozzo change” this week. As if anyone could watch the plight of Watford FC over the past 4 years and think Pozzo was capable of change.
That’s unfair. He did change. From a god like figure with a Midas touch to a panicked Mr Bean character who can do almost nothing right.
Exactly. But give them time. Hopefully by the time the club's no more and Vicarage Road is the newest branch of Macquerie Bank they'll wake up.
He’ll probably listen to the few fans who call for changes every time we don’t win . Expectations from inside and outside the club will have to be tempered I feel .
I am back in England for a couple of weeks for work and went with a colleague to watch West Ham on the weekend I got back (he had a spare ticket and it was a soulless experience). But we went to an event in a nearby pub before the game - they get former players in for a chat and interview etc etc, and it’s £25 all you can drink. Well it just so happened that this time it was Julian ****s. And crikey, he didn’t hold back on his experience with us. Said Gino is the most unprofessional man he’s ever dealt with in football and that after Manga/Costa came in, the circus somehow managed to get worse. He did caveat that by saying Manga didn’t really do a lot as the belief is that he will only really start taking control this summer. But he was utterly scathing about Costa and said she knows very very little about football in general, certainly at higher levels. They often speak about teams and players and she didn’t know who either were. Plenty of other stuff he said too - but most of it totally unable to post here!
Bet he got lots of thumbs up from Manga though! Costa is probably just the admin right hand person .. Did he mention Duxbury at all give he was at West Ham too ? I suspect ****s and Bilic weren’t too chuffed we got loads of players not suited to the league or fit enough then they got the blame by being sacked.
Explains a lot why he rubs people up the wrong way and get's so many things wrong. He's inept and completely out of his depth. It's no coincidence when the guiding hand of Papa disappeared the club started to turn into the iceberg.
Yes, this is because Andrew French said it on his interview with the WD18 kids. He said’ “ I’m not Pozzo out, I’m Pozzo change.” They nodded their heads in agreement and Bob’s your uncle everyone jumped on it.
"I'm not Pozzo out, I'm Pozzo against all reasonable logic and expectation based on all observable evidence over a 5-year period "
This was posted in the DNSYE hub, but I had to share this. In summary, it's the owner of Brighton congratulating them after such a good season. It almost makes you cry with envy the togetherness and passion they all have. We used to have this too once. Can you really see Gino coming down to the changing room and addressing the side like this? https://twitter.com/officialbhafc/status/1660632263829094400?s=46&t=qhSagXIqFtyH8LdeW_uC-Q
Wouldn't shock me one bit if Brighton were involved in the relegation picture next season. As soon as you think you've cracked the PL, it tends to bite you on the arse.
Maybe not next season but wouldn’t be shocked if they had one bad season eventually. All teams like us do at some point .
With Burnley, Sheffield Utd and potentially Luton in the league I think they’re safe for one more season at least.
I think they're too well run. If something happened to Tony Bloom as it did to the poor Leicester chap then possibly but they are the best club in England. Furthermore they don't have a horrible manager like Brentford Nylons.
Don’t think they will be but won’t be easy to replace Alexis and Caicedo. Need a solid goal scorer too. Think Brentford will be the flavour of the month team that suffers next year though.
Every time this thread is updated I jump to it in hope that someone has heard we are being sold to new owners ..... I am sick of the disappointment this thread delivers hahaha
