Its the level of dent and cost that matters. With Uncle Baz, we had debt and very low income which could have been the position a year or two from now without promotion.

  2. Our assets and potential are much, much, much higher too. And we have a proper ground and a top notch training facility.

We were close to folding under Bassini, but there is no obvious existential risk right now.

In this context, you can't talk about debt without also talking about assets.

I never knew that, thank goodness EJ saved us from him.
Seems that otherwise WFC could well still be in the family - and still in league one, or even two.

Whilst technically true, our assets are worth many times what they were worth under Bassini. We almost folded over a 10m tax bill under Bassini, that simply wouldn't happen now would it?

The club now to where it was when they took over is far more attractive to a future investor or buyer. So I would say the club is in a far stronger position. Even in a distressed sale scenario. Stadium now worthy of the name, training facilities up to scratch for the top league, player registrations of a far higher quality.

Nice to see common sense in regards to the clubs financial situation .

Yes , our debt is bigger than under Bassini but the club is probably worth £200 mill + if it was to be bought by outside investor , so we actually are far more in profit than we have ever been in the history of the club .

A couple of years in the Championship would reduce that drastically ....but we re not in the Championship.

Pozzo is the 7th most popular owner in the PL. 77.2% of Watford fans want him to stay.

Nice to see a table where we're nearer the top than the bottom - and where only one of the Big Six is above us.

Just over 50% for Wolves seems harsh.

You'd be in League One without Fosun.

  13. The fundamental issue the Pozzos have is that staying in the Prem is really, really expensive. We're probably looking at the thick end of £70mn in losses over the last 2 years, and I'd guess that it'll be two or three years of fairly restricted player trading even if we stay up.

The best measure on how sensible they've been in running the club-for me at least- is the wage bill. And we've never been outside the bottom 3 in the league. The Pozzos are rich, but not so rich they can afford to go mental. It's why they were trying to bring Yank investors in a couple of years back to bolster the position.

As others have said, we're in a massively better position than under Baz, with assets (both playing squad and structural) that have been invested in.

Long term, we probably need the revenue from a 30k seater stadium to sustain us, how that's achieved, I'm not sure.

Ashley has no takers at £300m for a club which has vastly higher turnover, matchday revenue and commercial income, combined with far bigger fan base and stadium. In debt terms we are similar although the money in their case is owed to Ashley.

That said I do agree that if we can stay in the league the next few years with our revised sensible and seemingly effective transfer strategy then things may look very stable indeed.

  15. That's not true. There's a buyer, they've been blocked.

Yes fair point. The point is if Newcastle are worth £300m I don’t think we are worth over £200m.

Guess some aren’t happy about how they act at times.

The main problem Ashley has is that the club is in Newcastle. Great loyal fan base but players will never want to move there out of choice as it's so remote and far from London. We have the opposite issue in that there are many local huge competitors but at least "non-big-4 players" will be happy to come here with the whole of London within easy reach.

Financially we continue to develop and grow. The marketing has evolved again this year and so various strands of earning money throughout the world is going to help us more and more. Just look at the creation of various supporters strands such as Spanish fans to the most recent I noticed is the Jewish fans and when the club put any report up, any photo it is now tagged to the shop. They are being innovative with the ways to earn more money, even the cryptocurrency (?) Sponsorship is another opportunity, a punt maybe.
We are a modern club and are continually trying to evolve.

I think that's why we're 100% gonna lose Sarr next summer, firstly we need the money which combined with his contract (up in the summer of 2024) which means if we don't sell next summer then the contract expiry date will eat into his value quite significantly.

  22. Absolutely. The ongoing shenanigans with Chabs and Hughes is probably the biggest failure at the club in terms of protecting asset value

Yes and we will constantly run into "The Doucoure issue" whereby we really want to let our better players move on up the ladder (for a decent fee, which funds losses and aloows for some re-investment) but know at the same time that letting those players go really harms our chances of establishing ourselves as a prem club. I think we will have to accept that we will be a yoyo club at best as we can't otherwise fund a consistent stay at this level and must reply on building a competitive team whilst spending considerably less than our peers. That said, the limited funds spent this summer seems to be well spent.

Glad he is gone, I can't think of a memorable moment or game from him his whole time here.

Capoue and Doucoure were great but also weak-willed and probably the reason our losses frequently turned into thrashings.

I miss Gerard every single day.

Pereyra had some fantastic individual moments but wasn't the player you wanted in a relegation scrap.

The goal away at Wolves, the volleys against Chelsea and Brighton, the performance and goal against Leicester in his first season, the 4th against Chelsea. All very memorable moments for me

He was incredible in the 2-0 win away at Wolves and scored a goal of extreme high quality, up there with the best of the Pozzo era goals. Other than that I do tend to agree.

Yeah, Pereyra did have memorable moments, but you can literally count them on your fingers (in a positive sense, anyway, unless you want to add the shocking miss at the very start of the final-that-shall-not-be-named).

The rest of the time he was an albatross around the team's neck on the pitch, barely bothered to even attempt to do what was required of him - in the relegation season doubly so, which was even more disappointing in a way as there was a school of thought that he might be one of the guys we could rely on to spur us owing to his previous experience being relegated, with his hometown club no less.
