Well we were never going to get the sort of fee we did for those 2 for Troy !

We probably have tried to replace Deeney - with Success, Gray, Murray and Welbeck but none of them have worked out for various reasons .

Deeney wanted to go alright. Unfortunately all other teams saw him as an expensive, egotistical waste of a shirt.

U take it easy mate. Like me. It's only a game.

The surgery is minor and it will save him any future troubles with clotting or pain in his arm. Please come back ASAP. Has to be numero uno next season.

I'll be genuinely dissapointed if we don't get him a loan to a League 1 or Championship side, but I can see him being the one pushing for this and cannot blame him.

I can understand the loan for one more year, but the option to buy would be a strange one. He was brought in as one for the future and by all accounts he has been outstanding when out on loan. What was the point in any of it?

I'm genuinely amazed any young players still sign for us. You could argue that Wilmot and Quina (I'm assuming Quina is going) weren't good enough, but when were they given a proper chance in their best position? Dahlberg has the potential to be the worst one yet because he looks fantastic. I wouldn't be surprised if Pollock, Baah and Mebude all leave in a couple of years having barely played for us. Oh and TDB and Ngakia will probably go the same way.

To be fair this might be because of the emergence of Bachmann as an actual starting goalkeeper. Go back to when we signed Pontus and honestly how many of us envisaged Dan turning into the quality of keeper that he has become. He showed on loan that he was talented but most of us still doubted his potential throughout last season. I think at the Euros he showed what an exceptional keeper for a club our size he is. Pontus has suffered for that.

Still would be mental to include an ‘option to buy’ when Foster is leaving in 12 months time. Just leaves us in a position of having to find another GK in a year. Seems ridiculous to me.

I've never quite understood why goalkeepers aren't trusted to play until they are significantly older than outfield players. If they are good enough they should be able to play.

I like Bachmann but my feeling (based on nothing too scientific) is that Dahlberg has a higher ceiling in terms of ability. If he has another good loan in a decent league he could conceivably come back and be our first choice keeper for the next ten years (or a few years before selling for a profit).

Disappointing he hasn't been given the chance. Feel he is better than Bachmann. It's understandable we stuck with Gomes and Foster for so long and couldn't probably justify having 2 youngish keepers back last season

Already made 93 league appearances at the age of 22. For context Bachmann (27) has only made 82. Would definitely like to see the two of them competing for the number 1 jersey when Foster leaves next season. Would be stupid to sell / include the option to sell.

You what? They are trusted to play until they are significantly older than outfield players. Goalkeepers often play at the top level until around 38 with little significant drop-off in their ability.

On the off chance I'm not being whooshed, to clarify I meant that it is often more difficult for goalkeepers in their early twenties to break through into the first team than outfield equivalents. For example Dahlberg is older than Louza, Quina, Pedro among others, but is still only seen as one for the future. There are obviously some exceptions to this rule.

Partly it is perception. Bachmann to me still seems like a young player breaking through despite being approximately the same age as Troost, Sema and Masina.

    Ah okay, gotcha.

I think a major reason is that goalkeeper is a position which generally requires more composure, concentration and strength than many outfield positions, and those things come a bit later in a player's career. Meanwhile, they need less in the way of pace, stamina and dynamism, which tend to peak earlier as attributes. Goalkeepers need to be able to stand their ground in a crowded penalty box, and it is the position on the pitch where small errors and lapses in concentration (which are more common in younger footballers) are the most costly.

However, the flip-side of that is goalkeepers tend to play at the highest level until they're older than most outfield players, e.g. Foster and Gomes being first choice for us until they were about 38.

For similar reasons, Centre Back is the outfield position where players on average break through latest, but then play at a higher level until later.

Attacking players, especially wingers, and also full-backs, tend to break through in to first teams earlier, because their positions are more reliant on pace, and lapses in concentration are a bit less dangerous.

One additional point I forgot to add in my post above - you also don't really get goalkeepers subbed on for the last 20 minutes of matches to gain experience in the same way as it's more feasible and beneficial to do for outfield players. Goalkeeper is also a position which there is no benefit to rotating them for matches in terms of giving players a rest; in fact it can be detrimental as they lose some of their focus and match rhythm, so 1st choices are more likely to hold their spots.

Thus young GKs also naturally tend to get fewer chances to play, gain experience and impress, and so find it even more necessary to be loaned out to get regular first team football.

They would be mad to like him go. He looks to be a very good keeper.
Wilmot was lightweight. Not sure he would get a game for us in the Premier league.

I don't rate Bachmann. He will not come off his line to claim the ball in the air.
Good with the ball at his feet. He will be under far more pressure in the Premier league.
He may cost us a few goals with lack of commanding his area.
Then again, all our players will be under far greater pressure than last season.

If this is true, the most annoying thing about this isn't the fact that he's going to be sold, it's the fact that we'd probably receive a couple of mil for him tops. I get it from his perspective, another loan away, with no guarantees of him being #1 when he 'returns' here, but how much money would Swedish teams have?

With Watford signing the young keeper Vicent Angelini from Celtic, l think Dahlberg will be on his way now.
Dahlberg is highly rated, but not getting a look in at Watford.
Parkes will not play in the first team.

If they're that confident in Parkes why would they bolster the Junior ranks with Vicent Angelini.

The club would have seen this by now. Other clubs would have come in for Parkes.
I think he will not play one league game for Watford.
Bachmann( I don't rate) Foster( could be off up North) Elliot (why?) Dahlberg( the club don't seem to trust him) Parkes( bench warmer only) Angelini (well rated for his age)
What happened to the Black keeper we once had in the Youth team a season or two ago? He looked half decent.

  28. Hogg-DEENEY!!!

Well Angelini is 17 isn't he? If Football Manager is to believed, I think he has 2 years of U18 football left (when is his birthday?), and of course he could step into the U23s. Parkes had an eye-catching spell at Barnet, so I would imagine the idea for him would be a League 1 or League 2 loan. I don't for a second think Parkes is a better bet than a 22 year old Sweden international, but Bachmann had a similar loan to Wrexham in the Conference when he was around the same age as Parkes, and he's not done badly for himself in the end!

It was a long, painful road for Bachmann tbf, he didn't end up playing for us at all until he was 25, and not regularly until he was 26, yet he's now our #1, I'm not totally ruling out any of our young keepers making the grade here
