I was right at the back of the Watford fans and the silence and delayed reaction reaction to Bayo's goal was bizarre. It even made a story in the Scottish media! https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bayo-watford-fans-plymouth-goal-34170846 Probably due to the nature of the goal itself remoteness of the Watford fans absolute silence from home crowd initial muted celebration from Bayo (and team mates) lack of reaction from the referee - who presumably would have known from the goal line technology bleep
It reminded of occasions watching St Albans City in the 70s in the Isthmian League. A combination of foggy nights (which we don't seem to get so much these days) and poor floodlights, meant that news from the frontline often took a while to arrive
This stat is correct. Our last home league defeat was to Coventry City on 9th March 2024. That match was the last in a run of 9 home games without a win. Every other team in the PL/EFL has lost at least one home league game since then.
Remember a similar situation at the Dell in the 80s you couldn't see the far end and suddenly the team trooped back into our half and Southampton kicked off. We were all shouting 'who scored' and some of our players pointed to the scorer and we had a very delayed celebration!
Wrexham are 12 league games unbeaten at home (to our 11), even though their last defeat is slightly more recent than ours (16th March).
If they'd done their job, Gray would have been a shrivelling, nervous wreck, rather than grabbing the equaliser.
from where we were sat it looked like the keeper had saved it. Because the ball had rolled behind the keeper none of us could see it and the net didn't ripple. I think it caught us all by surprise.
Such a regular occurence these days, he doesn't even feel the need to celebrate or even acknowledge that he's scored yet again....
He hadn't a clue where the ball or his legs were, upon seeing it over the line he looked round to check the ref wasn't Attwell as if it was it would have been a corner!
Going by this comment on one report from the game the fans thought the keeper had saved it. “but it appeared that the Plymouth keeper, Grimshaw, had smothered the shot. Then the players started celebrating and we realised that Bayo must have bundled the ball over the line, so there was an almighty roar in the away end. The celebrations were no less enjoyable for being slightly delayed”
